Two-River Fork
Tariro - Wolf (Viridian)
Shag - Wolf (Viridian)
_____
Tariro watched his uncle depart off into the wilds returning home after their conversation. Did Haze really want to reunite a family long separated; deep down he hoped that he did, that it would work; but on the outside he was still a little skeptical. Looking to the ground when the wolf could no longer be seen, Tari' closed his eyes to think only to reopen them and meet his reflection upon the rivers surface. If the Lazuli will except them, he will gladly take up charge so long as his own pack were willing to follow his lead. Looking to the clearing where his companions rests turning to head for them. Perhaps Shag will be awake, there is much they need to discuss.
Shag is very much awake. In fact his eyes are round and wide open, staring at the approaching stars, the brightest of which are just able to be seen if one looks hard enough. The afternoon is turning to evening, the sky an artistic mix of blue and orange, fading from one to the other as one looks across the horizon. And Shag is staring at it intently. His ears are perked and alert, and twitch towards Tariro when they hear his coming. "Tariro," he says quietly. "You were discussing something important just now... I can tell by the way you're walking." And he isn't even looking at him, strangely.
Tariro hrms as he looks at his brother in his approach, glad he was awake. "I was; something I need to speak with you about..." He looks up to the sky, "..If you are not to busy." A light smirk crosses the wolfs face. Dropping to his haunches near his brother, he takes a breath before saying, "What do you think of the possibility of combining with the Lazuli?" Straight forward and blunt. It was a matter that needed to be heard and he wanted to know what his brother thought of it since it was likely they would be working together.
"Hmm. We are in dire straits," Shag deduces, or perhaps states outright like he'd been expecting the question all along. It's hard to tell. Along with being strange, Shag often seems distant, spiritual, "out there." He continues to stare at the sky with big, bright yellow eyes. "It would, of course, be a little unsettling... neither of us have a firm territory to hold on to. But reuniting is always... better. On the whole. I don't feel anything wrong with this. You were talking to Haze, weren't you?"
This Tariro nods to; they were in dire straits, but they weren't hopeless either. "One doesn't need territory to be united Shag, we of all should know that having been away from home long enough and still remain at ones side." he says furrowing a brow. "If anything we have become closer in this struggle; perhaps it will be the same with them as well." A low sigh escapes him as he stands to move around his brother. "Yes. It was him that brought it to my attention. I would be inclined to accept his proposal if I know I have you by my side." Unlike the relation between their mother and uncle he wishes to remain close with his.
"I am," Shag says. "You don't need to ask for that, Tariro. We are brothers... and I feel that it's only together we're going to accomplish anything. And, no... you don't need territory for unity... but you need it for a pack," he warns. "The forests around here may do just fine, if we can find a den to sleep in. I doubt the rest of Lazuli is as used to sleeping in the open as we are." He wags his tail and looks at Tariro with those almost childish eyes of his. "Coming here was a good idea. Now we can start anew."
Tariro smiles to his brother never having a doubt. "Lands a pack may need, but in time. One can not simply have lands and no one to fill them with." He grins, "Though I suppose you know that already. When the need should arise we'll find a place to settle, but in the meantime we should gather whom we can." Peering at Shag he nearly chuckles; those eyes, forever will they show the true wolf that his brother is. "See. Now what would you have done without me.. hmm." He chuckles this time around reaching out a paw light bat at the shaggy wolf.
"I would have wasted away, and I suspect you'd be a much unhappier wolf," Shag says rather plainly, letting Tariro bat at him. All he feels is a little bump on his cushion of fur. It's true, Shag does feel he has some obligation to stick around and help make his brother a better wolf by having that pure faith in his leadership. Shag likes being an outside observer, an adviser. "We should take a tally of who we have now."
"I don't know about that; your a formidable wolf, you just don't know it yet." He smirks trying to reassure his brother of his own confidence. Now that Tariro knows his brother is.. for, the unity of the packs he can move on to the next thing at paw. "Well.. Our numbers have grown since we left the valley." He begins looks around the vicinity. "There's Aika, our first.. or rather mine." He tries not to smile. "Then there is Konachi." He's noticed a new face amongst them lately, turning to his brother for a possible ID.
"And Alaqua," Shag adds with a simple nod. "She joined us a few weeks ago. I don't believe you've met yet. But... she has a very nice spirit, Tariro. I think we will be better off with her around. Though she has some rather... unorthodox hunting techniques. She refused to kill a 'cute' raccoon I helped her hunt and turned to fish instead. But I didn't see anything wrong with her. So that makes five. A good start I have to say." He tilts his head curiously. "Is Aika why you've looked a little happier than usual?"
Ah, so that was her name. "A very good start. Its good to have her with us." He adds to his brothers last words about the group they've acquired. Raising a brow next to his inquiry about him and Aika he clears his throat. "A little happier than usual.. I thought I've always looked this way." He was clearly trying to avoid the topic. "She has helped me smile some but I would not give her sole credit for what happiness you may have seen."
"I can tell, brother," Shag says in a rather strange, surreal voice, his eyes a little more piercing than usual. And then he's done being a weirdo all of a sudden. "Well. Other than that... I suppose we just have to hope that Haze will pull his own pack together for this. You know... I saw the southern lowlands not long ago. The Lazuli have made their home there, haven't they? I'm sure of it." He hasn't even heard much of them before today, much less where they could have gone. "It's a good place. Roomy. No other wolves like before. But... I like the feeling I get there. You can see Luna and all the other lights in the sky... completely without anything in front of you. It's incredible." He stands up and looks south as he speaks, peering intently.
Tariro nods and doesn't say much; he just listens to his brother as he speaks of peaceful surroundings and the sky. He never saw much of an interest in the things Shag took to; its what makes them so different in a way. They each have what the other does not. "An open plain, I've never been there." He states. "Are they anything like the mountain; it too has open skies outside the glen, but the way you speak of these lowlands..." he stops there. "Perhaps you could show me them one day."
"Oh, yes. But the air is closer, since we're lower. It's... not quite like our valley. It's so... open. Like the whole rest of the world is stretching out in front of you. The mountains, you feel... higher, obviously. But out there. It's like I can think for the first time and have my thoughts go out, and out... like I'm touching the places that are beyond this one." He must have eaten some rotten fish or something to talk like this. "Oh, and also, I think Alaqua has a crush on me."
Tariro nods soundly as his brother starts to ramble about how wonderful the lowlands are; had he seem them for himself he may of been more enthusiastic toward Shag's delight. "I can tell you like them a lot." A chuckle then escapes him at the sudden outburst that one of their company has taken a liking to his brother. "Does she.. well that's interesting news indeed. Hey, maybe you two can hook up." He says teasing. "I suppose you'd have to like her first.. You do like her right?" Hey wait, aren't they suppose to be talking business, how'd this all come about.
"Like her?" Shag says, turning on a dime to face his brother, his eyes wide again but more with apprehension than anything else. He isn't sure what to say to that. "Well... yes... I do like her," he has to admit. She's pretty, she's fun, she's affectionate. A prime candidate for a mate. "But... I'm just not sure. She seems as inexperienced as I am in... that kind of thing. And... well... you know how strange I can get sometimes." He licks his lips and glances at the ground. "Well, no. I guess you don't... don't *know* about the... the things I see sometimes... but... I'm just not sure right now. I can talk about everything *except* this." He sighs heavily. "And I don't want to make her sad either. But... I'm sorry for bringing it up. It wasn't my place when we have more important things to worry about."
Tariro shakes his head. "Why should experience matter; you can learn as you go." He tells him. "What really matters is..." He falters when he hears the up set tone in his brothers voice. "You don't need to be sorry Shag, somethings are best talked about, helps makes them easier to deal with." he sighs. "We don't have to talk about this." Looking away he hmms unsure of how to lighten the mood. "What would you prefer to talk about?"
"Me, actually," Shag says to Tariro. "I've..." He goes quiet and looks away for a bit. "Tariro, I've started... seeing... things," Shag says. "Dreaming... weird things. But not bad things. Just... odd. One time I dreamt I was a tree." He paws at the ground fitfully, hunching over as if to try and hide in his shaggy pelt. He doesn't feel comfortable just putting his oddities out in the open; if it were anyone else he'd never even bring it up. "And I knew you were talking to Haze even though you were so far off. It was like... I *felt* him nearby. Or maybe I was just smelling him. I don't know. But I feel more... more connected. Focused out here. Like I can look at something and just... know a bit more about it. Do you... do you know what I mean? I'm not worrying you, am I?"
"You.." Tari says as if reluctant to of said anything. "Alright." It wasn't often he got to hear anything about his brother, let alone the strangeness that was him as a whole. Listening to him, he shifts his weight from one paw to the next, "A tree. Well I suppose that's not to odd coming from you. Your fascination with nature has always been a quality I found dearing." However, the part about him being able to sense, or rather know something just by seeing it is a bit disturbing. "You likely picked him up upon my return, I wouldn't worry about it." He honestly had no idea as t what Shag was referring to but nodded nonetheless. "Perhaps being out here has just giving you the chance to open up; learn something about yourself. I'm not going to worry about it unless it starts to affect you in ways of preforming tasks, or just being my brother." Moving up next to Shag he smiles some. "I'd rather see you smile again.."
"It's not just nature... 's everything," Shag whispers, but his voice trails off as Tariro tells him to smile. And lo and behold, he does. "I don't... I won't let it make me unable to do my duties, Tariro. You know that. I love you too much to let you down or get distracted or anything." Buoyed up by his brother's confidence, he seems able to put things away from his mind that bother him for a while. But it'll come back. Maybe even tonight, when he's dreaming. But for now, it won't. He just smelled Haze... for now. "So... we just wait for Haze then? I wonder what the Lazuli are like."
Tariro smiles, "That's what I like to see." A light chuckle is met with a nod. "I do know that, which is why I am confident in your abilities." A short moment of thought passes by the white wolf next as he thinks over his next words before saying them. "We could, or we could meet up with him." he says. "You did say the Lazuli had settled in the lowlands, right. If we do not hear from him with a days time then I suggest we head there and search for him as he did us. We are young still and the trip could prove useful to us. We may just encounter others who would join us." A shrug added to those words he tells his brother, "I do not know, though I'm sure we'll see soon enough." This has plagued him the moment the idea what brought up, however, he mustn't judge them before seeing them for himself.
"They will probably not be happy if we take the leadership," Shag notes quietly. "But I'll stand by you nonetheless. I think this will go smoothly if we try and stay diplomatic about it." He shivers. "But I don't feel like any violence will come of this."
Tariro nods to this. "We don't know that for certain." He wasn't going to assume anything until he has met them. "We'll let Haze reason with them. As their Alpha, his influence is far greater than ours right now." A smile on his face, he nods once more. "I am glad to have you by my side. We'll make it through no matter what happens I am sure."
