Every journey, no matter how long, must someday come to an end. Still, with each end, there is the hope of new beginnings. It's the tail end of one journey that brings Maka to the edge of the prairie. Her black nose twitches, head turning as a light breeze brings with it the fragrance of summer flowers and the undeniable scent of wolves. Sniff. She takes one step backwards towards the shadow of a nearby tree, but then something familiar strikes her nose. Dark ears perk upwards and her head tilts, excitement flashing briefly in her amber eyes. Any thoughts of avoiding this path due to the resident pack are set to the sidelines as her sister's smell seems carried among those of others. So, cautiously, the girl pads a bit further forward, nose twitching as she tries to track the scent back to its source.
Since she stumbled upon the the rather frightening sight of the pair of unfamiliar wolves fighting on Ute territory, Heath has remained protectively at Skelaghe's side -- even if the young female is much more likely to flee to safety than to stay and fight at the first hint of danger. Nonetheless, the copper-flecked wolfess rests quietly beside the Ute alpha, muzzle laid over her forepaws as her pale blue eyes flick to and fro. Should the older she-wolf wish to talk, she's here, but otherwise she's happy to simply provide (not to mention receive) moral support with her nearness.
If Skelaghe did not spend more than a few hours away from one of her pleasant companions for the rest of her life, she would probably die satisfied. Every recent attempt she has made at solitude has been marred by more and more unpleasant occurrences. It is probably time for her to accept that she is not meant to be alone, and deal with whatever she does not want to share with the others only when they are sleeping and she remains awake. Even as upset as she is, she has not been incapable of smiling, since she left Survivor and Wanageeska behind her, and after a leisurely morning, she stretches and says, to the nearby female, "I am thirsty." After speaking, Skelaghe stands up. If there is anything she is feeling besides the relative peace she displays, she keeps it well-hidden, at least for now.
Happily trotting from the river to the west, Abel has already made the most of his day. As slowed his pace, the sandy ground of the beach became the healthy soil that is the clover lawn. He knew Skelaghe was nearby, though he wasn't exactly sure where. Deep in thought, the adolescent is really only half-awake as he strolls on the lawn. The wind picks up, and carries with it the scent of a female. Assuming the source is Wyanet, Abel heads into the wind, still rather unfocused and content.
For a time, Maka continues to cautiously skirt the edge of the clover, excitement warring with fear of tresspassing into some unknown pack's territory. Still, as the wind shifts and the scent is blown away from her nose, the girl looks upwards, following the path of a few flower pettles guiding her way forward. "Okay. I get it." She murmurs, voice half-amused. So, she gathers her courage and starts across, trying to follow the path the scent had been before the cursed wind had blown it elsewhere. Nose low to the ground in concentration, she's so distracted that she doesn't notice Abel heading her way until just at the last moment. With a small yelp of surprise, the girl backpeddles, ears splayed out as she ducks her head.
Head lifting as Skelaghe rises up from her rest, Heath gives a little nod in response to the alpha's statement. "All right." She's content to lay here while the older female goes off to do her business, but when the wind carries the sound of a yelp towards her ears, the young adult glances over at Skelaghe with a slightly worried look on her face, wondering if she should follow along. Hopefully this doesn't mean even more conflict on Ute lands.
It's not a sound of pain. At least, Skelaghe doesn't think it is. Even so... With a deep breath, Skelaghe begins moving more rapidly in the sound of the yelp, until she spots her son, and... Who is this? having clearly caught the beginning of whatever interaction is happening between them, Skelaghe does her best to not assume the worst as she continues approaching the two young wolves. Her tail is raised high, but she does not growl or make any violent genstures, even once she is a bit closer.
Just as surprised as the girl, Abel crashes to his senses and ducks as well. Only briefly, though, as scans the ground ahead and spots the retreating female, who couldn't be much older than himself. Curiosity and a sense of duty draws him to come forward, albeit cautiously. "Hey!" He calls out, even offering an intrigued smile. "Who are you?" Abel quickly closes his mouth, hoping he didn't offend a member of the Tribe by not knowing who they are. He tries to go through every member in his head, almost embarassed that he doesn't recognise the newcommer. He continues slowly walking to the other wolf, catching her scent.
Maka freezes for a moment as the young male calls to her, tail tucked as she seems momentarily stuck hovering between curiousity and flight. Still, he seems her own age, or close to it, and the smile is enough to cause her head to lift a little and her ears to perk a little forward. "Um..." She starts, holding still as Abel approaches. A tentetive, shy smile forms on her own muzzle, but the set of her ears shows she's not quite at ease. "I'm Maka?" She doesn't sound quite sure of herself. "I'm... looking for my sister." She stands a little taller, seeming to gain more courage as she speaks. "She's a bit older, looks like me, but with more gray? Have you seen her?" And then the forms of other wolves catch her eyes and the girl steps back a few paces again, ducking herself down submissively in response to Skelaghe's approach.
Striding through the territory is the timber wolf, Wyanet, who is on the pursuit of Skelaghe, and Heath in the distance. It seems that she's looking to pick the brain of the Alpha, as well as catch up on some gossip, and gab if any. She seems to be in better spirits after the confrontation with Survivor, having had a full night to sleep on things. With a loud hum in her throat, she sings out with her crystal, pure voice. "Here I stand, once again. In the heat of the night. Searching high, searching low.. I've never felt so alive. Because tonight I'm going to start a fire! I'm going to lose my self control! I know what I want, nothing's going to stop me now!" She belts out, her howl pitch perfect as she goes, eyes half lidding contently. As she spies the three pack mates ahead of her, she opens her mouth to call out to them, but freezes in place as she spies the younger female in the distance. With a squint of her eyes, her smile slowly drains to become a thin lipped frown.
As Skelaghe trots off to investigate the yelp, Heath soon follows, pushing herself up onto all fours and loping after the alphaess. As she enters the open lawn that lays before the hill, her sky-blue eyes peer curiously out at the pair of wolves - one familiar, one not. She lingers behind, however, as is her usual mode of operation, not quite following the Ute alpha all the way out towards the other lupines - instead preferring to watch from a safedistance for now.
Skelaghe hears Wyanet behind her, as well as seeing who might very well be a younger, and only slightly different, version of Wyanet before her, asking about her... sister? Clearly, this does not seem to become violent. At least, not between Abel and Maka, but, as she looks behind her and sees Wyanet's frown, she can't be certain there will be no violence at all. "Wyanet?" Skelaghe doesn't know much of Wyanet's past, but based on that frown, she has to guess there were some things Wyanet was none too interested in facing.
Abel nods as Maka proclaims her name without much gusto. "Your sister? ... No, sorry." He shrugs, guilty of being unable to know where a stranger's sister would be. As Maka glances over Abel's shoulder and crouches again, he turns around and sees Skelaghe along with Wyanet, then turns back to her. He feels very air-headed now; how could others be so near-by and he remain so unmindful of them? "... I'm Abel, by the way." The adolescent doesn't show fear, but he looks far from comfortable. "Those two up there, Skelaghe and Wyanet, they might have seen your sister. You should try asking them." He knows that the invite to ask the adult wolves might be more than a little bit intimidating, but Abel's only trying to be helpful; he doesn't sense danger in this visitor.
What was one wolf, becomes many, and it's more than a little intimidating for one as young as Maka. Still, she shows some of the steel of her nature by not turning tail from this entourage. "Oh." She manages to say in response to Abel, "N..nice to meet you." She stutters out, eyes flicking away from the younger wolf to take in the others arriving on the scene. Then, with the introductions, something changes. The girl's ears perk upward and she stands up straiter, looking beyond Skelaghe and towards the wolf that has her gaze. "Wyanet?" Hope lingers in her voice. There can't be two Wyanet's in the world, can there? As she spots her older sister, the girl's face brightens and worry over the others seems to slip away momentarily. "Wya! I've been looking for you!" She calls, nearly bouncing out of her paws. That is, until she spots the frown on her sister's face. Her ears fold down and the excitement drains slightly.
Taking in a deep breath, Wyanet lets it out slowly, then starts down the hillside, continuing to look stoic as she sizes up the younger female, the one who looks so much like her. As she passes by Abel, she grunts to him, "Don't hit on my sister, or I'll bite your tail off." She says with a side long glance to him, one of teasing gold. A smile, barely, touches the corners of her muzzle, before turning her attention back to Maka. "You have, have you?" She asks, settling herself back upon her haunches, ears twitching upwards, half of one missing by now. She lets the silence linger for a bit, uncomfortably, before breaking out into a wide grin, and leaning in to push her face up against her sister's neck, rumbling softly to herself. "Well, what took you so long, squirt? I've been here for awhile now. Come, Come! Meet the Ute pack. This young handsome boy is Abel, just past me is Skelaghe, the Alpha, and that is Heath over there."
Skelaghe watches Wyanet and the newcomer closely, relaxing once Wyanet seems to. Sure, she doesn't appreciate what Wyanet says to her son, but it's obvious that she's joking, so Skelaghe doesn't mention it as she approaches the sisters and her oldest child, silently, for the time being.
"Oh!"Abel's tail wags and relaxes his posture, too, as he sees that Wyanet was actually the sister she was looking for the entire time! It's a good feeling to see a reunion like that. He smiles at Wyanet's approach, until he's scolded by her. He immediately whines and hides his tail, playing along. "I wasn't even doing anything!" Of course he knows at this point that the older wolf is only teasing him, and seems to have a compulsive need to do so. Abel tries to ignore her for now looking at Maka, examining her. "Nice to meet you, too." He's glad Skelaghe is here, too, explaining something like this might not exactly believed. He quickly jumps to conclusions when he speaks again. "So are you staying here then, Maka?" It's a question directed towards Skelaghe as much as it is Maka herself. It's still really up to her whether she stays or not.
Maka's posture remains slightly unsure, like an errant child worried that they might just have unknowingly earned the ire of a parent. Then, with Wyanet's grin, the girl eases and manages a little laugh, licking at her sister's muzzle affectionately. "Couldn't help it. I got a little sidetracked." She admits sheepishly, the excitement returning as the end of her tail wags back and forth behind her. "Enyeto knew I'd come looking for you. He tracked me when I left the pack. I had to keep mixing up my trail and I finally lost him up in the mountains." She huffs a little, nudging at her sister's shoulder before looking at the others shyly. "Nice to meet you?" She offers, and ducks her head. "I'm Maka..." And, as if to answer Abel's question, she mutters. "I'm not going back." Shaking her head from side to side.
Giving her a lick back in return, Wyanet seems excited, and extremely happy to have her sister back in her life, the younger one, not the harlot. With a nose to her ear, she softly rumbles, "I'm glad you were able to lose him. Why was he following you for, mad that you were coming after me? That moron." She says with a loud snort, before giving Abel another look, unable to help the grin on her face. "You were thinking it, I'm sure. Look how beautiful my sister is. I'm sure every boy trips over their paws to even talk to this pretty girl." She says with a loll of her tongue, giving her sister a nudge on the shoulder. With a turn of her head towards Skelaghe, she raises her chin up slightly. "Alpha.. this is my sister, Maka. My favorite sister. She's my family.. may she stay on the lands, please? Pretty please?" She asks with a wide grin, practically wriggling.
When Heath can see that no fighting is going to come about of this instance, the fleety young thing finally resumes her forward motion after Skelaghe, coming up alongside and slightly behind the alpha female. Dipping her head in a polite greeting to all those present, both familiar and not, the ginger-toned wolfess murmurs a very quiet, perhaps only half-heard: "Hello...
Skelaghe doesn't attempt to figure out who the male they speak of is. In this moment, she is simply glad to greet the young sister of Wyanet... And if her son has found himself a romantic interest, all the better. "Maka. It is a pleasure to meet you. Clearly, your sister is willing to vouch for you. If you are to stay, I will only ask you to respect the land and the animals of it while you are here."
Abel ignores Wyanet. That tactic seems to work well enough. Very pleased with his mother's response, he wags his tail again. This is a great thing, a reunion and an addition to Ute, it seems. He sits down next to Skelaghe, though he watches the newcommer. He's curious now about where they came from, and who they were speaking of. It would be rude to poke and prod for answers to inquiries just to satisfy a nosey wolf.
"Mad you left, mad I left, mad in general, I think." Maka ticks off the reasons with a flick of her ear notating each one. "Probably wanted me to come back, but I'm faster than he is." Her voice holds a hint of pride. However, her amber eyes do roll a bit at her sister's comments about boys. "The only boys I've seen for the past few moons have been deer. And I'm not into antlers." Her pink tongue lolls out and her nose scrunches a little at the thought. As the girl listens to her sister's pleas for her to stay on in Ute, she catches sight of Heath and offers the more quiet wolf a timid smile of her own before the alpha speaking her name causes her head to turn. "I can do that. Really. Besides, Wya will cuff me if I don't." She says obviously more at ease now that she isn't quite alone.
"I've yet to cuff you for anything, Maka. You're a perfect angel." Wyanet says with a grin as she leans more into her sister, rubbing her muzzle against her fuzzy neck playfully. "You've only seen deer? Good for you, most of the boys out there are dumb anyways. Abel here though.. he's the Alpha's son, strong, very good looking." Since he's ignoring her, she'll pretend he's not sitting a few feet away. "He's also very single." She winks playfully. Her tail wags back and forth behind her visibly. "Thank you, Skelaghe, I really, really appreciate it." She's being polite? Has hell froze over? It seems that the arrival of her sister has done a bit of good for her soul.
If Maka has a civilizing effect on Wyanet, then even better, yet. "Well, then welcome to Ute, Maka. Perhaps soon, my son might give you the tour. For now, though, I think we ought to let you two catch up." Skelaghe, after all, has yet to get her drink, and she can only imagine that, should she run into a sibling of hers that she had not seen in... Well, for her, it would be years... She would strongly desire to spend some time alone with that sibling, and so, after waiting only a short while for a response, she'll begin her path to the river again.
Embarassed now, Abel can barely make eye contact with Maka. As she speaks of him highly, in his opinion exaggeration, he looks down at his paws and chest, examining himself. Strong? Maybe not so much. But good looking...? Yeeeah, he can go with that. Abel nods, and does like Skel's idea of giving the wolfess a tour of the lands. Skelaghe is right, however, he imagines the two reunited sisters would like to catch up with each other in private. Out of respect, he stands and nudges Heath, encouraging her to leave the two sisters alone. He follows a short distance behind Skelaghe, though he'd honestly rather stay.
Heath is too busy staring - perhaps somewhat impolitely, though she can't help herself - at the pair of sisters to immediately follow after Skelaghe once she takes her leave, but Abel's gentle nudge startles her out of her reverie. With a little shake of her head, the young female quietly slips away, turning to trot in the same direction the alphaess left in, and leaving the other two she-wolves to their reunion.
"Mya!" Maka protests, although weakly, ducking her head against her sister's shoulder. She peeks briefly towards Abel, and then looks shyly away again. "Come on. I'm not that pretty and I don't need boy advice." She sulks a little bit, still not quite all grown up yet. "So how did all -this- happen?" She circles with her head, as if including all of Ute in the question. It's an invitation for a longer story of just what has happened since Wyanet left the pack.
"You are definitely that pretty, you look just like me, just younger, with both ears attached." Wyanet says with a grin as she leans over to give her sister a nudge, nosing her off so that the two can take a walk through the grass. With a giggle, she nips her shoulder, then starts in on the long story as they go.
