Skelaghe - Female Wolf
Rowtag - Juvenile Male Wolfdog
- Hilltop Vista -
There's a chill in the air, despite the sun that rose hours ago, a warning of the winter to come. Skelaghe is not as worried as she might be, but there's no doubt that she has been devoting more time to hunting that she normally would, even though it hardly results in more food than some other pack members might bring back to the den on an average day. This early in the day, though, she is just lying near the den, idly grooming herself.
Rowtag has been absent from the pack for a while still, despite being accepted back in after his less than formal apology of sorts. Most of his time has been spent either alone, or with Wyanet as she trains him in the skills of hunting. All natural wolf-talent aside, Rowtag did have a knack for it, if he said so himself. Not that he was a trophy toting hunter of any sorts, but he showed a decent amount of skill. After one of his lessons, he finally did wander back here to the hill, for the first time in a while, and saw Skelaghe sitting near the den. His ears sunk back a bit to a relaxed position, and he didn't call out to her, but did walk toward the entrance of the den, hoping to rest in the warmer area. He was exhausted, as was evident by the way he was panting for breath.
Skelaghe spots her son fairly early on. She responds to it by, first, taking a deep breath, then offering him a small smile. She does not get up from her position. Of course, she wishes nothing more than that she could get through to him, and hold him for a while, but she knows the if she is to have any hope of that, she'll have to take it slow with the stubborn boy. So, as he gets closer, all she does is say, "Good morning, Rowtag."
"Good morning." He says in a decent enough tone of voice, not wanting any fights or to be stubborn with her at all. Though he'd gotten a drink on his way here, he did still feel the pang of thirst, so he realized as he sat himself down on the ground a fair distance away from his mother, assuming everything was fine, but not wanting to push his luck if things were not. Realizing that no one else was there, he looked around and gave a blink, shaking some dirt from his head and resuming his heavy breathing to cool himself down. "Where is everyone?"
"Rawiya is sleeping in. Ciqala and Toyo went off to play a while ago." And the adults generally stick to their own, instead of sleeping around the den. Skelaghe should probably mind. She wanted for so long to be always surrounded by friends and family, but in recent months, she has grown to need time to herself, and now that she is getting it again, she takes advantage of it when she can.
"Oh.." He says quietly, and nods. There isn't much more for him to say, so he remains quiet for a moment. He rests his chin on his forelegs, looking at the grass and then looking over at Skelaghe again, scooting a bit closer with his belly dragging against the ground. "Have you had anything to eat yet?" Rowtag gives his mother a blink and tilts his head to one side, wishing that she hadn't so that maybe he could bring her something back. It'd be a nice gesture, and it'd help him practice what was growing to be his hobby.
Skelaghe watches her son in silence for a moment. This is not, in any way, what she had expected from the boy. It's not the question, but rather his body language as he asks it. Wyanet has certainly done wonders with him. It is with as much reservation as she can manage that she reaches out with her head to nuzzle him, just briefly. If it upsets him, if he moves away again, she'll deal with it, but she has to meet what is obviously some effort to reach out to her on his part with efforts of her own.
Sitting there, Rowtag gives Skelaghe another blink as she nuzzles him, but a tiny grin breaks nonetheless. He might not return the nuzzle, but that didn't mean it wasn't appreciated. It was! Still, his question wasn't answered, so he asks it again. "Are you hungry at all? I can maybe go get us something if you are." He says, trailing off a bit at the end, knowing full well that it'd probably seem like nothing more than a joke given his age, but he was eager to try his hand at going out hunting alone, if she wanted something.
It's quite obvious that Rowtag will never be interested in the things Skelaghe can most offer him. Loving, relaxed company. She meant what she told him, though. So long as he is safe, so long as all of their pack members are safe, she desperately wants for him to be happy. "I would love something to eat, Rowtag." Not that she /will/ eat it, if he manages to catch something. She'll come up with some reason why it is imperative that he should eat all but a bite or two that she'll take, to prove his gift was appreciated. Even if she were to eat nothing from him, though, she does appreciate that he genuinely offers. It gives her a lot of hope for him.
Nodding his head, the boy hops up quickly, and gives his pelt a thorough shake; discarding many days worth of dust and debris from laying around in various dirt patches and whatnot first before he readies himself for what he hopes is only a quick and easy hunt for a rabbit, or maybe some sort of bird. With his breath toned down now, he wags his tail contentedly and looks back before he bolts off, letting her know that he'll be back. "I'll go get you something, then. I'll be back soon!" He says happily, and then his paws begin to kick up some of the fallen dust as he breaks into a sprint to the nearest hunting grounds.
Skelaghe watches Rowag as he sprints off, smiling softly. As he disappears into the grasses, she reminds herself that she'll have to thank Wyanet, somehow, for what she has done for Rowtag, especially since she has been upset with her beta, recently, for interfering where she really wasn't wanted.
