Creek Overhang
================================================================================
The ground rises here, making a small cliff that hangs a few feet over the river below. The ledge drop-off is wide and sturdy, supported by the packed earth of the riverbank, and able to hold the weight of even the largest of creatures. The overhang is somewhat secluded, making for a peaceful place to just lay in the grass, listen to the singing birds, and watch the trickling creek nearby.

Well, things could have gone much worse. Apparently not all alphas are quite like his sire, and that thought is refreshing enough to lighten his mood. Thoughts on his father and his discussion with the Ute alpha are far gone as he ventures away from where Ciqala and Wyanet had moved to, most likely where the boy was trying to keep him from venturing, and instead begins to investigate the surroundings. The dark wolf huffs at the dirt and at the base of the ferns and trees, stopping once to scratch his rear end with a dumb look of pure bliss on his muzzle. Aaaaah. A quick glance about shows no creatures and with a pup-like enthusiasm he bounds into the air and races through the trees, tongue hanging from his jaw and he pounces on some invisible quarry. Glee. He has it.
It's been days of tracking. Anu is running as fast as she can, spurred on by the fresh scent of her quarry: Tyr. He's close, and that knowledge lends power to her legs. Soon, the smell of his is almost overpowering. The shewolf slows, trading speed for stealth as she gets ever closer. Her heart leaps as her eyes catch the familiar sight of her brother. The emotion she feels is not excitement for seeing family again, but rather more like the excitement that blooms in the final stages of a hunt. Seeing his childish happiness prompts her into action - this traitor does not deserve to be so carefree. At last, she removes herself from her hiding place, placing herself a couple feet behind the dark colored male. "You are such a child, brother," she says coldly.
Run, bounce, leap, THUD! Tyr's final landing is marred with a startled and unamused growl, and as soon as all four paws have hit the ground, they dig into the soil and turn him around, the familiar and ever displeased face behind him matching the voice. The brother has no words for his sister, save that deep and primal growl, and he launches at her without hesitation. But he does not go for a killing bite, instead thick shoulder hits thick shoulder and his long legs wrap around her bulky chest, the two of them tumbling in a mass of thick fur, "Nnnnuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu," he cheers, trying to pin her to the ground with his body and lick lovingly at the underside of her chin, "Nu Nu, sister ee's been 'alf a season already! Y'look ill, y'been eatin' bad 'ave ye'? Weeeellll, we'll fix tha'right up fer ya!"
A snarl rips from Anu's jaws in reply. Tyr is successful, but only because he has the element of surprise. The female twists and struggles, trying to free herself, her maw snapping angrily in an attempt to catch any part of him she can reach. It seems she doesn't return the male's affection. "Get. Off," she commands tersely, the 'before I make you get off' is implied.
She catches him a sharp one on his lip and Tyr yelps in surprise, but nibbles half-affectionately, half-irritatingly at Anu's chin before he rolls off her, maw wrinkled in laughter. He huffs and wheezes at his sister, gesturing a paw as if to say something but instead it comes out as mocking jeers. Eventually, "Awr, Nu Nu, ye' missed me, didje'?" the dark male teases, though there is a coldness behind his eyes, a coldness like the northern wastes, that implies he is well aware of why his soldier sister is here. It took him weeks and weeks of steady, almost non-stop travel, easy work for hardened creatures like them... but she must have been pushing extra hard to catch up with him so quickly. "Whadder y'want?"
Anu is on her paws in an instant, every muscle tensed. He won't surprise her again. She brushes off the /aggravating/ nick name and answers instead, "I've come to take you home." Her yellow gaze takes stock of his stance, his tone, his expression, ever calculating and trying to guess his next move. The shewolf prays that he bolts. She's been imagining herself taking him down for all this time. The image has kept her going, kept her moving. Making that come true could make this ridiculous journey worth it.
"Y'think y'can do that, can yer?" Tyr replies, his voice reflecting the ice in his eyes as brother and sister stare at each other, study one another, and try to calculate who is faster than who. The corners of his eyes pinch together and he laughs sharply, though the tone is anything but amused. They're too evenly matched, Tyr and Anu, litter mates and constant rivals since their first moments in the snow. "Wot's daddy's lil' girl gunna' do, a'ight? Take m'back fer a tongue thrashin'? I dun't think so. Akh lost an' ee can't stand it, can ee. Sends -you- t'do 'is dirty work." Tyr snorts, trying his best to keep what's left of his composure. "T'ain't you I've gotta' quarrel wit' Nu Nu, 'cept 'course if you think y'can beat me."
Anu's lips curl to reveal fangs. Tyr, always making light of the serious. Tyr, always with that /annoying/ nick name for her. The male has always been able to crawl under her skin and ignite her anger. "At least I'm no coward. /You/ ran so you wouldn't have to face him again. What, you think some other pack will take you in? A weakling like you?" She hurls the insult with conviction, but she knows as well as he that they are equals in a fight. "Or you think you can make it on your own?" The female snorts at this, tickled by the thought.
"Sling yer insults somewhere else, Anu," Tyr sighs, managing to sound almost bored with their conversation already; after all, it's not like they've had similar ones a thousand times over. "If y'want t'see a coward, go back home. Akh sending someone else t'do somethin' ee knows ee never could 'imself. Don't sound so high an' mighty; y'know damn well I could've killed'im, an' I didn't. Know why, Nu Nu?" Tyr mocks, wrinkling his nose in distaste, more for their father than for her. "'Cause I ain't like him."
A growl crawls out of her throat. "Your inability to fit into our family has been clear since we were pups," she snaps, "I'm not going home without you." Which means she can't. Father's orders. Without Tyr in tow, Anu is not welcome on pack lands - not that she's eager to share this with her traitor of a brother. "I'll drag you back by the scruff of your neck if I have to," she promises. It's a battle of wills, and they are equally stubborn. Despite their rivalry, it seems like they have a lot in common.
"... ... ... ... Mm-hmmn," Tyr replies, the hardened look on his face softening into something sarcastic, "... well, while yer workin' on that, s'cuse me a few ticks, a'ight?" The male turns slightly, as though to move off into the trees, though he doesn't dare take those honey eyes away from hers. "I'm hungry." And then he flashes white teeth at her and swooshes his great tail, seemingly unpreturbed by her insults. "'Sides, y'can't go anywhere wit'out me, Nu Nu." He snorts again and winks, wriggles his butt in her face and begins to move away from the Ute's den in search of dinner.
Anu looks like she'd like nothing better than to sink her teeth into his throat. Instead she approaches him, slowly. After tracking him this long, she's not letting him slip away. "Well, allow me to accompany you, then," she says, sounding less than thrilled, "Let's see if you're still as dismal at hunting, or if you've miraculously improved in your absence from home." The female knows that he's no where near dismal, but, she can't miss an opportunity to insult him.
