Rye - male Coyote
Bristlecone - male Coyote Pup
Setting:
Merging Tributary - Late Spring (RL day 7)
----------------------------------------
Satinka is laying down in front of the den. She looks down at her son and smiles at him. Then looks up at the Sun and sees it is slowly sinking. Then looks around the place to see if she is the only one awake right now.
Rye drags some food back with him to the den area. his tail flicking as he notices his mate, and pads over to nuzzle her. "Evening."
Bristlecone lies on his back, little paws poking up into the air as he naps. As Rye comes over, he starts to wake up, opening his eyes but still lying like that.
Satinka looks over at Rye and smiles as she then nuzzles back at him. "Hi handsome. So you got some more food again I see." Then looks down at their son and smiles at him. "So you are waking up mow." Then looks back at Rye and grins. "Well it looks like our son is waking up."
Rye nods, "Yeah, we needed some more." he then notices the eyes opening. He moves his paw over and lightly bats the upstretched paws of his pup. "He sleeps weird."
Bristlecone gazes upwards, at... the sky, maybe, or the little leaves blowing past. Or maybe at the faces of his parents, since that tends to be interesting for a puppy. He yips as Rye reaches a paw down, his own little ones wiggling at the touch and batting lightly.
Satinka smiles at her son. Then nuzzles him for a little bit. Then looks back over at Rye and grins. "Yesterday our son did something funny and weird." Then rubs up against Rye. "So when do you think Summer is finally going to arrive."
Rye cocks his head.. "What did he do?" he asks as he rubs his paw over the batting paws, playing with his son some as his tail swishes around. He looks over the area.. "Anything interesting around here?
Bristlecone curls up his body around that foot, wiggling little muscles around, and then flops back down again, rolling onto his side and from there pulling himself up onto all fours.
Satinka smiles as she sees her son finally stand up on all fours. Then looks over at Rye and grins. "Wow he finally stood up on all fours. Well anyways a leaf landed right in front of him. He then tried to eat it." Then nuzzles her son gently. "That is really good son."
Rye smiles and looks at his pup. "You need some greens huh?" he grins and bumps his pup with his paw, seeing if he plays or not. He loves playing with his offspring.
Bristlecone tries to wag his tail - only, the combination of the motion of that, and the nosing from mom is too much for him, and he squeaks as he falls over onto his side. He whffs determinedly, and scrabbles himself up again, wobbling against Rye's paw!
Satinka smiles as she sees her son get back up. Then looks over at Rye and smiles at him. "Well he sure seems very determined to stay up on all fours." As she then rubs up against Rye some more.
Rye nods.. "Well, of course he does, we all love to run, he wants to keep up with his dad," he says, trying to move his paw around on the grass in front of the pup seeing if he can chase it.
Bristlecone yips again, squeakily, and tries to chase after that paw. Or at least stumble vaguely towards it and almost-fall into it!
Satinka smiles as she watches their son try to chase after the paw. She then looks over at their son. "Don't give up son. Keep trying Bristlecone." Then looks over at Rye and grins. "He almost fell again but managed to stay up right. He is getting better at it."
Rye nods.. He keeps trying to make his pup follow or fallpounce on his paw.. the fun game of chase the paw. his tail twitching as he nods.. "You should eat dear."
It's a paw! More than that, it's -moving-! Gotta catch up with it. Gotta get it, and uhm... what does he do with it? Oops, it's moving again... gotta chase it again!
Satinka chuckles some as she watches their son for a little bit. Then her stomach growls loudly as she grins some. As she looks over at Rye and giggles. "Well it seems my stomach is agreeing with you handsome." As she then licks him on his nose. Then goes over to the food and tears into it and eats it as fast as she can. When she is finished with the food. She comes back over to Rye and their son and nuzzles Rye some. "That was some good food love."
Rye giggles as he watches him chase. He's glad the pup hasn't tried to eat it when he does catch up. He needs to figure out how to teach his pup to pounce. "How's the girl doing?" he asks his mate as he nods, "Well, deer is good this time of year.
Bristlecone mouths at the paw a few times when he catches it, but he's not entirely sure what he's doing. Mostly, at this point, it's all about just learning how to coordinate all his limbs. What gets done with them is a lesson for later.
Satinka smiles over at Rye and tilts her head some. "I hope it was no one we knew." Then looks over at her son and smiles at him as she watchs him. Then looks back over at Rye and grins. "Well once he is finally able to walk and talk. We might need to ask for help from one of our hare friends. Hmm. Also, should we teach him about skunks or let him find out the hard way?" Then looks back at the den for a second. Then back to Rye. "She seems to be doing fine to me."
Rye laughs.. "That has to be learned the hard way. Everyone needs to go through that." He ponders.. "I'm at a loss though. Without Brax around, I don't have a fox to teach them foxxy things.
Bristlecone pauses a moment, peering at a patch of ground, and then makes an attempt at digging at it, scraping his forepaws against the surface. So many people, so many kinds more than him and sis and mom and dad! He'll meet them all, in time.
Satinka looks over at Rye and chuckles some at him. "So I take it you learned the hard way yourself huh? Well I just hope they don't learn the hard way near the den." Then looks over and sees her son trying to dig." Then looks back over at Rye. "Well it looks like he is trying to dig now."
Rye chuckles.. "Probably thinks he hears something, though I don't know if his ears are that atuned yet. The only thing he really probably hears is your warning call." He encourages his son, "That's good, keep up the digging.
Bristlecone hears so many things, it's hard to sort out which are the relevant ones! Fortunately, his instincts have made him more likely to listen to the really important ones - his family. He gets a pretty respectable little hole going, and then stops, sprawling down half in it.
Satinka smiles as she looks over at their son. Then tilts her son at him. "So you like laying down in holes huh?" Then looks back over at Rye and chuckles some. "Well it seems he got the digging down already."
Rye ponders.. "Well he can't dig too deep here though, he'll hit the rock that's under us. There is plenty of water around. He'll need to go up the hill to get grass.
Digging is easy! He only has to move -two- of his paws to manage it. Admittedly, it's a respectable hole by puppy standards, so it's about big enough for a paw of a grownup, and not even deep enough to get to rock here, but still.
Satinka smiles as she looks over at her son. "That is really good son." Then looks over at Rye and grins. "Well speaking of rock. Does it seem the den seems bigger now then it was before the flood happened? Or is it just my imagination?"
Rye laughs some at his pup. "Well, now you have to learn to dig more efficiently." Okay, so he uses big words. He turns to Satinka, "not that I know of, that rock in there is pretty tough. It might have washed some of the crud out.
Bristlecone doesn't even know the little words yet! Though he'll be picking up bits and pieces of it, soon enough. He opens his muzzle in a little yawn, still sprawling half-in his hole.
Satinka chuckles some as she sees their son yawn some. As she then flops onto her side. She looks over at him and smiles. "Are you getting sleepy son?" Then looks over at Rye. "It looks likes someone might have wore himself out already."
Rye grins.. "Well, I'm going to keep pushing him each day I can so that he can build up the stamina. He has to be able to out pace me, at least when he's ready to start his own family.
Bristlecone gives himself a little shake, and gets up again. Nope, not tired out all the way yet. At least, not when there's still stuff going on!
Satinka looks over at their son and smiles at him. "So, it looks like you get your second wind huh?" Then looks back over at Rye and grins. "Well, it seems he is fighting it right now." Then looks back over at the den for a second. Then back to Rye. "Well my Mom told me a river with very fast moving water can scour a rock into sand. I use to not know what that meant back when I was little. When I was fully grown, I finally understood her."
Rye nods.. "They can, but they take a long time to eat away some of the rocks like what our den is. Now, there are some rocks that can be eaten away. Back when I was his age, and lived down in the prairie, that type of rock could be eaten away quickly." He bends down and looks eye to eye with his pup quickly.
Bristlecone looks up at dad, and tries to clamber up onto his face, pawing at his muzzle and wiggling.
Satinka chuckles some. As she watches their son try to climb up on Rye. She looks over at Rye and smiles at him. "Why does it seem that all of our pups always try to climb on you love?"
Rye turns towards Satinka with a pup climbing on his head. "I don't know.. I guess I'm a tree to them."
Parents make the best toys! They move, and they make noises... and besides, little puppy instincts mean that Bristlecone's attention is predisposed towards them. He wiggles about on Rye's head, making triumphant yips and perplexed squeaks at the motion!
Satinka can't help but laugh at the perplexed squeaks from their son. Then looks over at Rye and grins at him. "Well, it looks like he is wondering why there is movement in something he is climbing. Hmm, I don't remember ever climbing onto my Dad or Mother. Do you remember ever doing it?"
Rye grins and when he feels the pup is fairly stable he gets up slowly and then starts moving around. He nods.. "I'm told I did it, but I don't remember anything." his tail twitches as he takes his pup for a ride, even if the pup doesn't know it.
Wow, this is a lot of moving! And... was the ground that far down, before? Somehow, Bristlecone doesn't think that it was... this is weird. But also fun! He yips with high-pitched excitement, peering around.
Satinka looks over at Rye and their son and smiles at them. As she then giggles at the excited yips. She looks over at Rye and grins. "I believe he is enjoying the ride love."
Rye moves a little faster. He goes over to Satinka and stops for a moment, then moves around again.
Bristlecone wobbles atop his perch as it keeps moving. He yips to mom when Rye pauses near her, and then they're off again, on a coyote-eye tour of the area!
Satinka smiles as she watchs Rye give their son a tour of the area. She looks over at Rye and giggles some. "He really seems to be loving the ride you are giving him."
Rye nods carefully, "Unfortunately, I think he likes it too much. He might want it all the time." He pads back over to Satinka so that Bristle can look right at his mom.
Bristlecone tumbles off of dad, this time, to land on top of mom with a yip!
Satinka smiles as she looks up at their son and giggles some. "Do you still want to go for a ride?" As she is still laying on her side. Then looks over at Rye and smiles. "Well, it looks like he lost his hold on you."
Rye giggles, "I'm sure he'll learn how to hold on. and then we'll all be in trouble." He says as he looks at the two. He heads over to the water for a moment to get a drink.
Bristlecone wiggles about on top of mom, nosing at her soft fur and squirming around on her side. She's all warm and nice to be with.
Satinka smiles as she stays laying down. Then looks over at Rye and smiles at him. "Got thirsty huh?" Then looks over at their son and grins at him. "Having fun, son?" As she then gently nuzzles him.
Rye drinks some more then gets a mischievous look. He gets some water on his fur and pads back over to shake off over the two of them, giggling.
Bristlecone nuzzles back up at Satinka, and yips to her... and then dad comes over, and splashes water all over him, and he barks, looking up and over at Rye! Now he's -wet-!
Satinka smiles over at Rye and chuckles. "That felt really good love." Then looks over at their son and watches to see what he is going to do. "So what are you going to do son?"
Rye grins.. "You have a problem, pup?" he asks, looking at the look at him. "Eventually we just need to get them all used to water."
Bristlecone isn't quite sure on that count himself. It's not that he minds the water, though it's a little unexpected, just... hmm. For lack of any better ideas, he charges - okay, stumbles - down off mom to thump in against dad's legs.
Satinka smiles as she watches their son. Then looks up at Rye, "Well it looks like he is trying to get even with you, love." Then looks over at her son. "So how are you doing, son?"
Rye laughs and headbumps back. "well, I think I'm going to head to the den. I'm sure things will be great tomorrow."
Bristlecone licks up at dad, then starts looking around again, tail wagging some. The steadier he gets on his feet, the more he wants to look around and find fun things to explore, it seems...
Satinka smiles as she watches her son and chuckles some. "So it seems you are getting used to walking around now. So I wonder how soon it will be before you try to talk."
Bristlecone probably has a bit longer before he tries that... pups tend to get the big-muscle stuff down before they manage the fine control of talking. But he's certainly getting there. He pads over, and leans up to lick at mom's muzzle.
Satinka smiles as she looks at her son as she is licked on her muzzle by him. As she is still laying on her side. "So are you hungry?" As she wonders when his teeth when start coming in.
Bristlecone sits down, and then sprawls down, curled up in between mom's forepaws for the moment, resting his chin on her leg as he looks out. When his teeth do start appearing... she'll certainly know! And be quite eager to start him on solid food, most likely.
Satinka looks down at her son and smiles. As she tilts her head some. "So I guess you are not hungry then." As she then looks over at the pool for a little bit. Then lays her head down and watches her son.
Bristlecone turns his head and licks at his paw a little... it's all dirty, though, and he makes a bleh face and stops. He sits there a moment, then has a bright idea, and he gets up and starts padding towards the little pup-sized bathing puddle.
Satinka smiles as she stands up and stretches. As she then follows right behind her son. "So where are you going to son?"
Bristlecone steps right into the puddle, letting the water come up over his paws and start washing them off, and wags his tail as he splashes around in it a little.
Satinka smiles as she watches her son splash around in the puddle. She then puts one of her paws in the puddle and moves it around. "Well, when you get really good. We might show you the bigger puddle."
Bristlecone seems to like playing around in the water, continuing to move around in it even once his paws are cleaned off, and chasing after mom's paw as she moves it around, splashing water against it.
Satinka grins and chuckles some. As she then thinks for a little bit. Then turns around and sits down. Then turns her head to watch her son as she moves her tail slowly at first then speeds it up a little bit.
Bristlecone stands in the water for a few moments, watching the ripples of the waves from all his splashing around, and then steps out, giving himself a shake to get some of the water off.
Satinka smiles at her son as she watches him get out of the puddle. As she continues to wag her tail. "So are you get tired son?"
Bristlecone looks around again, and opens his muzzle in another yawn. This time, it seems, he's actually tired, his head starting to droop before he lifts it again and pads over to mom, yipping up at her.
Satinka smiles at him. As she then gets up and slowly heads back over to the den. "Lets go over by the den son." As she then makes it there and lays down in front of it. As she then watches her son to see if he will come.
Bristlecone squeaks. But he'd only just caught up with mom, and now she's moving away again... He gives himself a little shake, and follows after, padding along with slow, suddenly-tired paws.
Satinka smiles as she looks at her son and chuckles some. "You can do it Son. You are almost there." As she continues to encourage him.
Bristlecone yips softly, and picks up his pace for a few more steps, before stumbling in happily against mom's side and cuddling up there, nosing at her.
Satinka smiles and murrs at her son. As she then gently nudges him some. "So I guess you are very tired now, then?" As she then yawns herself.
Bristlecone cuddles in without giving an answer... well, other than yawning again, and closing his eyes.
Satinka smiles as she nuzzles her son one more time. As she then yawns and then curls up herself. As she falls fast asleep herself.
