Characters: Orion, Spirit Animals (NPCs by Cliantha)
-Prairie-
Orion can be found down by the river, his head lowered to sniff out at the water and glance across its surface that is before him as if looking for something. His tail lashes slowly while he shifts to make his way through a shallow patch, something his down more times then he cares to count. The stallion had been off patrolling the area around the river, after everything with the birds he figured it would be good to check the place out in case any more birds, or other animals could have be found dead as well. So far he could not find anything so he is on his way back towards the herd.
A small growing mist slowly moves among the grass. It nears his legs and slithers like snakes, yet there is no hissing that comes forth. Dragging along with the smoke is a leaping black cat. Its eyes are bright yellow. As it bounds across Orion's path, its mouth opens as if it is about to hiss but no sound again. It goes on, not staying. The mist stays low though. Is he awake or...
At the sight of the mist slipping into the area it makes his senses sharpen because this is anything but normal. The stallion backs up a few steps, front hooves stomping at the ground once while eying the mist. A snort escapes him, ears flicking forward and then back while his head moves towards suddenly black cat that appears before him. A sudden snort escapes him and for a moments he is unsure about moving forward while his head turns to follow the movement of the cat before looking back in front of him and he soon pushes forward. His tail lashing as he moves, ears flicking forward and back while he takes in a few deep breaths to try and catch any scents within the area that may possible come his way.
The black cat appears again along with the mist. It is an average size cat that doesn't open its mouth but words could surely be heard. The voice is resonant. "Do not fear what is to come before you. We shall provide you with guidance, hope and protection." The cat's head looks him over, bounding from one spot in this ethereal grace it seems now as it nears Orion. "We shall protect. You shall bring light to the others." The words are left as an enigma. It doesn't leave this time because it waits for...
Orion stops rather quickly at the sudden words that get his attentions, his head turning to catch sight of the cat whom he watches curiously for a few moments. Confusion clearly seen across his face as he can't seem to understand how the cat is speaking with him. For a few moments he is quiet, taking in what the cat has 'told' him. "What do you mean.. How will I protect the others? And how will you help us?" The stallion is rather nervous at this news, his mother always told him he would not amount to anything and now some ghost cat is telling him he will? Perhaps the river really is poisoned and his seeing things right before he actually dies..
Laughter that is obviously from the cat, fills the area around Orion coming from the mist and rising to his ears. "/We/ will protect you. /We/ will bring you guidance. /We/ will show you the light that belongs to you and it will grow so you may protect those you care for." Then the cat vanishes as an elk trots its way in. A less ethereal voice comes forth. "Forgive my friend. It is an illusive one. But it is right. It will protect you. When you see it on your path, you must follow." The elk is very simple, just like other elks but its rear area is made from mist that comes forth to shroud beyond it.
Orion is quiet for a moment, ears lowering before perking forward while he watches the cat. "I'm sorry.. You... or whomever.. I mean." He blinks a moment eying the cat and then turns his attention to the elk that is now before him, seeming perhaps a bit more relaxed that it is an elk and not another cat. "I see.. Your have to excuse me I'm rather confused by all this.. Is this real or am I well.. dying?" His gaze resting on the elk, clearly expecting an answer. "When I see.. what, the mist?.. Or what you have to tell me?.." He's one confused horse at the moment.
The elk shakes its head, "You are not dying but instead you are being watched." It shows a smile. "You are to look for the cat the next time so you know you are on the right path. It will lead you if you are ever lost. /It/ is your guardian. In time you will get to know the Cat. Now you have met me. I will bring you freedom, power, strength, even nobility if you decide to learn from me more." The elk shakes its body to let the mist part from Orion's feet. "See, you are fully well. But you are in a 'vision' here with me. Guardians of you. Spirits that bring you the things needed so you can help the herd you care for."
Orion isn't fully sure if he likes the idea of being watched, after all when something is watching a prey animal it tends to mean there looking to take a chunk out of there rump or some other body part for that matter. "I see.." Is soon offered as the elk explains a bit more, a glance is sent in the direction the cat went before he looks back to the elk. "Don't take this the wrong way.. Its just a bit strange that's all.." He offers with a soft tone before clearing his throat. "But.. I have to admit I'm rather curious now.. An if it means helping the herd then I'm rather eager to listen to what you all have to offer me." His mother might not think highly of him but Orion still cares for the herd and wishes them all well, he will do what ever he can to help them too.
A booming voice rings out. (Sounds like Michael Duncan Clarke) "Have faith! Have strength of heart!" The symbol of a large bear paw is imprinted between the elk and Orion, it takes up a seven foot diameter circle. The bear's laughter rumbles loudly. "Do not challenge his metal yet, Bear!" The elk looks up as it speaks. Silence comes quickly. "You have great potential, Orion. You've already shown some of your steel." The elk stamps on the bear symbol dispersing it. A little harrumph comes from the Bear's voice that hasn't yet shown its form. "Believe in yourself." However, something else comes forth, the doubt and fear manifests. Twenty feet away a coyote with the sound of rattlers comes reverberating. There is a mischievous giggle that echoes. The elk turns its head towards the joining trickster. "That is what you must not follow. Heed your own darkness."
Orion ehs faintly and just blinks while peering at the elk and then glancing around to try and catch the sight of whom else is around. He swallows slightly before glancing back to the elk. "How many.. Are there of you guys?" Its like they keep appearing out of the mist and he can only wonder, especially if they have a bear in there group what else is with them. He shifts on his hooves, attentions turning towards the coyote and the snakes, his ears lowering. "Well.. That is one noise that I'll make sure not to be too curious about.."
The rumbling laughter of the bear dampens the coyote's giggling. The elk clears its throat, "There are many of us who have taken an interest in you. We have seen you've taken upon yourself the shame given to you by your mother. Yet you have persevered. That awoke the Cat, then I came to view you as someone with quality. Grow to be a pillar of strength with great wisdom that is already inside of you, locked and hidden away. We have come to show you how to unlock those doors." The coyote and rattlers go away as the bear manifests in its full form. A large brown bear standing up, larger than any bear in the wild. "With the Elk's keen words to me, I took heart to help. You shall have my bear strength to tackle any danger that comes!"
Orion watches the elk, blinking a few times at the talk of how the spirits? have taken an interest in him, which he can't help but wonder why. With everyone else in the herd after all, though for all he knows perhaps they have taken and interest in others as well. He clears his throat. "I see.." Is said with a soft murmur, his gaze lingering on the elk and then turn to the bear, which makes him take a unsure few steps back. Well its not often he actually gets to see a bear, spirit or not this close. "Well.. I truly hope I can live up to everything you.. spirits.. think I can do." There's a slight pause and he swallows a moment, his a bit nervous to say the least. "I'm rather open to what you all have to teach me." An his telling the truth there no matter how nervous he might be at the moment.
A stark, striking voice but has a certain even keel to it. Some of the mist rises up forming something. It slowly turns into a mountain lion spirit. "I am expected to be here, it seems." The mountain lion stands in front of the others. "I will show you how to lead with confidence and without the corruption that power can bring." It bows his head to Orion. The elk explains some more, "You do not have to live up to our expectations, Orion. You have to live up to your own. We are just /your/ guide. The Cat will deliver you from physical danger." The elk leans his head towards the bear, "Bear will bring you the stamina, drive and endurance of physical strength." The elk stands proud. "I will show as I already stated before, nobility, an inner strength, freedom, power and even agility." The mountain lion takes it from there, "We are /your/ servant, Orion. That inner spark, that beauty brings us to you today."
Orion ehs faintly and eyes the cougar, something he really didn't want to see if one really wanted to know, the scars across his rump prove there not the best animal in his mind but he does his best to stay relaxed. A slight nod is soon seen to the three spirity animals before him and he takes in a breath. "I.. I'll appreciate anything you have to offer me.. All of you." He offers quickly and glances to to each one in turn, ears twitching forward and back he only hopes this really isn't a bad trip and that he'll well, not wake up so to speak.
The mountain lion fades back into mist, "You are indeed blessed, Orion." comes the voice of the mountain lion. The elk concedes, "It is time for you to rest, Orion. Our presence will take a great toll upon your physical body." The Bear runs towards Orion vanishing into mist as it nears. The Bear's laughter resounds all over. Next goes the elk who merely says, "Keep a watchful eye. We will leave you signs of our presence or visit you when you wish it." then he too fades away into the mist. Now the Cat bounds back out, leaping across Orion's path. The soothing voice says, "We only guide. We only want what you want. We will bring you to the light. Have faith and watch for me again." And like the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland, a smiling cat face is seen for a moment without its body. Then that too vanishes. The mist begins to drift away altogether.
Orion pulls his head back and errs faintly as the bear comes running towards him, its not a easy thing to see a bear running towards someone after all. A faint sigh escapes him and he glances to the elk once more and slowly nods. "I shall keep a watchful eye out for you all." As the cat bounds by and then slowly disappears he isn't to sure what to say, or do for a few moments, his gaze following after the mist and he slowly looks around. The young stallion is still and then glances up towards the sky watching the stars above having to wonder if everything was true.. It must have been.. he hopes he isn't going crazy. He soon moves forward continuing back towards the herd so that he can rest, suddenly feeling rather tired after everything he just witnessed.
