Characters: Askuwheteau, Kuwanyauma
Hilltop Vista
As daybreak began, a little nudge Kuwa feels against her shoulder. It isn't a real one, of course, not one anyone else can see. This one is her spirit guide, the Bobcat. A little whisper in her ear and it says, "Time to arise and set forth into a new journey. Remember they cannot see me nor hear me. I will walk you into your new home and stay a moment to allow you to see beyond the masks." Kuwanyauma stands up, blinking her eyes several times. A wipe of them with one paw before she moves into the pack territory. She gives a soft howl to make her presence known.
And a few moments later there is a return howl, this one long and loud, the singer was obviously male from the pitch of it. And his call was clear, "I am of the Ute, stay where you are, I am coming to you." It was several minuted before the young male appeared, shorter by a couple of inches then most males his age, but he seemed to make up for this lack in height by being wide of chest and shoulder in bone structure. Short but stocky was a good summation of his appearance. And the expression on his face was a very serious one, but not unfriendly. He strode towards her with a confidence in his step but kept several feet between them when he finally stopped and spoke to her with authority, "You are on Ute lands stranger, but we do not turn away visitors out of paw, it was good that you called before moving very far past our borders. Have you come to see someone in particular among our pack?" His tail was raised and his eyes bright, sharp hazel eyes never left her's as he asked his question.
Kuwanyauma bows her head to her host. A little shake of her head is given but no expression is on her face. There is a hint of sorrow in her eyes but it is kept at a distance. "I am here hopefully to call this home. I am called Kuwanyauma, butterfly showing beautiful wings." She dips her head all the way down with her right foot out in font so she can allow her nose to touch the ground. Her movement is very formal yet fluid. A look to her left, she sees the Bobcat. It merely smiles and nods. That is all she needs for her to be confident in her stance. "What is it that I can do to join the pack? I have not been part of one before."
Askuwheteau watches her with a measure of surprise reflected in his eyes, he's never had a wolf appear with so clearly defined intentions before, knowing what she sought before she arrived. Most visitors were simply lost wolves blundering about the woodlands until they stumbled across the pack's borders. But he nods in response to the female and introduces himself, "I am Askuwheteau, He who keeps watch. I am the second son of..." And now he pauses and shakes his head, "I am the brother of the Alpha male of the Ute. I apologize, things have just recently changed, only days ago my parents died. We are all still adjusting to the changes. As for what you might do to join the pack that is more difficult to answer. Perhaps nothing will be required and you will simply be given a place, or perhaps you will be asked to preform a task, or perhaps you will be politely turned away. I am not sure what sort of Alpha my brother hopes to be and so I cannot say with any certainty just what he might decide in your case. But I will speak with him on your behalf. I do not think there will be much trouble in your gaining a place, and I will give a favorable report of how you conducted yourself at our border. I advise you to stay near our borders, you may hunt even on the Ute side of the border markings but to aid your case It would be better if you stayed away from the den sites until my brother or his mate has had a chance to meet with you." He steps closer to her and then surprisingly he noses at her and rubs his cheek against her's, "My scent will give credence to your story if another member of the pack should come across you. Just tell them you have spoken with Asku and have permission to be here while he seeks the alphas."
Kuwanyauma stands there and accepts his words. "I have been alone since my parents went missing. It has been some turns of the seasons since I've seen them last. I will keep outside for now." She straightens up but doesn't move when he touches his nose to hers nor his cheek against hers. "I will be stealthy and not be seen until you call for me again. I know your scent and your voice." A little sigh is let out. "I do not want to cause trouble in a pack but please tell me how this works." She steps back when she does see a small butterfly land on her nose. Confidently, she ignores it, knowing that she must continue on in this transformation for herself. "What is the structure of the pack?" her eyes soften to him though as her tension seems to visibly remove from her.
Askuwheteau seems at ease with the female and he sits down with a nod, "I will tell you anything you want to know. The pack is lead by the Alpha, or Alpha's if there is both a male and female assuming those roles. But that is only if the lead wolf is paired with another. They naturally enough lead us, while all members of the pack may be able to express their opinions on matters it is the Alphas who ultimately have the final say. It is sometimes a hereditary title and in the instance of my brother it was passed down to him and his mate by my father and mother. Although any wolf can challenge the Alpha for dominance, thus displacing them. It might also be passed to another wolf if the offspring of the previous Alphas either does not want the title or is deemed unfit by his or her parents. The previous Alphas usually decide who their successors will be before they pass on. The Beta is the next lowest rank. They serve as advisors and the right paw wolf to the Alpha...
After the Beta come the regular pack members, the rank and file if you will, we do whatever we can to help the pack, whatever is needed to the best of our abilities, be it hunting, pup-sitting, border patrols, scouting, fighting off intruders or other threats. Each of us have our roles to fill and we usually try to lend a paw to our pack mates, there are arguments and bickering the same as any family, but a wolves strength is in his pack, and we survive because we can and do rely on one another. We are greater then the sum of our parts. And that is how we not only survive but flourish. At the bottom of the ranking system is the Omega wolf, he or she is the least among us, they eat last, they are sometimes used to vent our frustrations, but while they might live the hardest life we all of us are grateful for them. As much as anyone else we depend on the omega."
Kuwanyauma listens to him for sometime. She sits down comfortable. "I do not want to be hurt." She looks at Askuwheteau, "I don't know how to be with others of my kind. I've always had a way of keeping safe and out of trouble. It took some time for me to grow enough that I could journey to you." The Bobcat moves to the other side of the Beta. It begins to glow radiating this bluish silver outward. Her eyes widen as she stares at the wolf next to her. The glow exudes creating a halo around Askuwheteau, then it fades. Her eyes are mesmerized, dazzled by the Bobcat. "I hope you won't let them hurt me." She heard what can be done to Omegas and the thought of venting frustrations as her thinking that if she were one of them, she would be hurt, injured and destroyed from the inside out. For her the fear doesn't mangle her mind, she is merely intent on securing one who will make sure she is safe. "I am here to bring no harm."
Askuwheteau listens and as the female expresses a desire not to be hurt, and then even further expresses hope that Asku will keep her from danger his chest swells a little, and in all fairness while Askuwheteau is not a tall wolf he is a muscular one, a trait inherited from his father. "I will let no harm come to you, I promise. We treat our Omega differently then most packs do. He is less abused, I would not remain with Ute if they were overtly cruel. I believe the Cerulean Pack to the south is similarly more gentle then is common. They are our allies. My older sister is with them now acting as liaison, I believe she also has an eye for one of their young males and he for her. If my brother decides that we do not have room for you, and Skahla is a kind wolf I do not think he would turn you away for any other reason, You might find the Cerulean pack an alternative. But I will try my best to persuade my brother and his mate to find a place with us for you. And my best friend Wachiwa is a funny she-wolf with a light heart. Much less serious then I am, she would certainly welcome a new friend. Perhaps the three of us could go hunting sometime. I am fairly confident that you will be accepted."
The butterfly is still lightly perched on her nose. It stays there every vigilant. The Bobcat fades and she knows the Beta's words are true. "I don't think I'd make a good Omega. I keep to myself often and I'm not so freely humorous. I've been around other kinds of animals for sometime. I mostly learn from them. Time by myself otherwise has some laughter and humor. Nor would I understand if others teased or picked on me. I find no love for the giddiness of a Coyote who tempts me into its pranks and trickster ways. If others do have bad days, I'm willing to speak to them, counsel them if needed." Her expression is a little rigid for a moment but it is the Eagle now who comes to stand next to her. The butterfly gone and a soft protective wing touches her side. "You're best friend, I'd like to meet her. Who else is close to you?"
Askuwheteau tilts his head at the question and then frowns in thought, "I have a little brother and little sister, newborn, whom i cherish. And a young orphaned pup has found his way to us, I make it my personal business to make sure he is taken care of and treated well. I think he has grown rather fond of me and looks at me almost as if I were an adoptive father to him. And then there is my older brother Skahla, the Alpha I spoke about before. We were at odds for a long time after a bit of a fight a year and a half ago but recently we have reconciled, I try to be there for him in every way that I can. Then I have two sisters from the same litter as Skahla and myself named Keaughe and Nutaryuk. And I am also close to my brother's mate Shawnee, she is a good friend and oddly enough sister to Wachiwa. It's rather Ironic that my brother and my best friend's sister came to be together. Then there is Wachiwa and Shawnee's brother Mori, who is somewhat out of favor with the pack at the moment but his poor judgement is somewhat eclipsed at the moment by my parent's death and worry over their newest litter of pups."
Kuwanyauma has a tiny smile, may be noticeable to him. "Thank you. Now that I am here with an introduction to you, I shall go to find some food and drink. I will return when you call." She stands up and then gives him a deep bow of her head. "It was good to meet you." She turns and begins her trek away to find something to eat staying beyond the borders of the Ute pack. The Eagle flies in front of her now with him guiding to a place for her to hunt. It gives a loud caw, that she hears, not sure if Askuwheteau would.
