Characters: Cliantha, Comanche
The morning is bright and breezy but the air has a tinge of a new smell to it. Maybe a smell of something better and hopeful. Cliantha stirs from near her sister. Quickly she stands and shakes herself off. Off she goes near the edges of the borders out here, not seeing the stallions or Miel whom is often this far from the center herd. She nickers loudly to see if anyone responds.
Being sent away from all he has ever known, Comanche hated being alone since it was rather boring. Sleeping didn't come easy and he was up at the first sign of light. His walk is slow and his head being lowered slightly bring s rather rough snort against the earth. The nicker comes as a sign of hope and he raises his head looking for the owner. Lifting his front left leg he stomps at the ground and lets out a loud nicker of his own. Taking one or two steps forward he stops his ears twitching this way and that as he simply listens.
A return nicker! Cliantha whinnies loudly, "Hello! Who is there?" She doesn't recognize the nicker though. "You are nearing the Dorado herd. Are you planning to spend time here?" She looks around as if to scrutinize all around her. "You haven't come with others have you?"
Comanche walks forward until she is whtin his view. "The name is Comanche." he says with a low dip of his head. "I travel alone." he answers with his tail flickering back and forth behind him. "I perhaps might stay for a while if allowed."
Cliantha bows her head to the new stallion. "Well we are just worried around here." She gives a little grin, "You'll have to stay at the border of the herd for now. Plus we have other problems going on here. We lost our Herd Stallion to something rather large and hideous. The stench of it is overwhelming too. Plus there has been such an influx of animal movement in this direction. I mean it seems small because they do fight and spread out but the fighting is what we worry about..." She stops talking. "I'm sorry. I'm completely babbling right now."
Comanche listens as she begins to speak on a multitude of things. "You are fine. Sometimes it helps to have someone to talk too." he says in a reassuring tone. "My herd asked me to move on after selecting another. That is why I roam as some call it." looking around he bobs his head up and down a time or two. "I will stay near the borders as you ask. Can even help keep an eye out for anything that tries to cause trouble."
Cliantha tilts her head and smiles, "Thank you, Comanche. We will need it since I know we aren't exactly safe. There is a small threat of disease but we don't know what it is but I haven't seen anything in the past few days. Maybe it is just nothing. Who knows." She points her muzzle in the river direction. "I should ask if you're thirsty. If so, there is a river not far from here."
Comanche looks in the direction of the river putting the location to memory. "I am alright for the time being. Thank you for your kindness though." his tail flockers again back and forth just before giving his body a shake. "Sickness? What are the signs of it?"
Cliantha thinks, "There wasn't any. Just the smell of the dead carcass is odd. Maybe there will be other signs soon enough." She frowns slightly, "Oh, but I don't want to depress you now that you're here. You should meet the other stallion that wander close. We do have a few mares as well, and one foal."
"You aren't depressing me." he assures her, "As I said it at times helps to have someone to talk too." Comanche nickers rather happily rather glad to find a new friend or whatever. "Forgive me but did I ever catch your name?"
Cliantha looks embarrassed. "I'm Cliantha. Guess I'm here to call the others in case something dangerous comes our way. I don't go too far from the herd lately. Which direction did you come from? And what was your herd like before you left?"
"Nice to meet you, Cliantha." he nods his head with understanding, "Always good to have lookouts. I would think having at least two out this way would work best though. At least that is my thoughts." Ears twitching to the latter question, "It wasn't really that big. Our custom is to have one lead stallion and all others are asked to leave. mY brother was chosen so they sent me on my way. Of course I could have challenged him but... He is family and I can not."
Cliantha nods her head a few times, "Yes that is what we've been doing. Trying to stay in pairs for the most part but when I can't, I stay near the border. Oh, do you by chance know anything about healing herbs? I'm having to do some research on it but likely hard to do since it means I have to experiment."
Comanche shakes his head, "I am afraid that I do not. Wish that I could be more help in that regard. I was rather trained as more of a guardian." he again takes a moment to shake out his pelt and mane. "Is the herd here large?"
Cliantha shakes her mane a few times, "No, not that large but the stallions here always stay at the edge when we had a Lead one in the herd. For now, most are worried about keeping the herd safe." Her face tightens a bit, "A guardian? Well, what was your training? Because we have one that roams a lot. And I think Virgil does too. But I know Itzal and Orion stick close to home."
Comanche was happy to answer this question, "I have learned how to protect by fighting. These can be good weapons when trained properly." he pounds the ground with his left front leg a couple of times. "Good to know how to run and use the elements around you as well."
Cliantha ohs loudly! Her tail flicks a few times, "Great! Then you'll need to meat Itzal and Orion. They can show you the lay of the land best and begin to patrol around. Now can you tell me what you've seen on your way to the Dorado herd? I'm always interested in hearing stories."
Comanche nods his head as the thinks over this, "Came across an old farm like place. I believe man used to live there but it seemed abandoned and rather run down. Other than that nothing too exciting really."
Cliantha listens to him, "Well, my sister, Taima's father is a horse from far away." giving that little tidbit like that will mean something. "Oh, we do have good food here." She pushes a few flowers near her back hooves. "Those don't taste so bad. There are others delicious food to eat though. I tend to look for the purple and blue flowers myself."
"I shall remember that... Excuse me a moment while I gather a drink." Comanche says while turning towards the earlier mentioned river.
