Adult Female Wolf: Wachiwa
Adult Male Wolf: Askuwheteau
Location: The crab apple tree.
Askuwheteau came padding slowly from the den towards the tree. His nose to the ground as he searched for the puppies, and his best friend. His brow was furrowed but not in irritation, he was concentrating. The truth of the matter was that Asku was trying to increase his skills, he was concentrating trying to pick out as many little details in the scent trail as he could. It had been some time since Asku had done any training, he was getting sloppy, a fact made more evident by the clear limp in his left forepaw, he placed his paws gingerly, trying to walk silently even despite the hurt in his forelimb.
Wachiwa has found peace for the day; asleep in the shade of the crab apple, while Ikuna and Ahiga at least sleep nearby from the lazy heat of summer evening sun, and, of course, the fact that chewy went and got two rabbits out of that pile o' critters she'd brought home for the pups and stuffed them silly to GET such peace and quiet. Laying half curled, eyes closed, head lifted, looking almost like a sleeping cat, she rests, ignoring all but the sounds of sleeping pups-- and then, ears twitching, the sound of someone approaching. Blue eyes slowly open to reluctant slits as she sniffs slightly at the air.. then shut again. Ah. Just Asku.
Askuwheteau soon finds the three sleeping wolves, his friend, his baby brother, and the adorable Ahiga. He smiles and trying not to wake any of them he gently leans down and presses his nose into their fur, giving each a small sniff and then checking them over to make sure they are all alright here, then he turns and walks a short distance away, sitting down in quiet contemplation while trying to work the thorns out of his left forepaw with his teeth, he had clumsily stepped right into some briars earlier. That was what had him trying to improve himself through some light training today, he felt stupid for having placed his paws so carelessly. But he had also wanted to check on the others, he was dutiful if sometimes overbearing. Perhaps a combination of the qualities of his late father and mother? It seemed likely.
Like always, Chewy is besot with odd wisdom: "If you soak your paw in the river, it will make the thorns easier to remove, Asku, dear. Water makes them shrink and become slippery in the skin." Of course, she doesn't know that water actually makes the skin softer, allowing for the thorns to be removed easier, but. She has her own way of explaining things. She then adds, "And next time you're after a rabbit, you should watch what it's running into before you try to follow. This time it was just a briar patch. Next time they could be looking for sanctuary behind a porcupine." She mmms softly then, and lets her snout dip a little, sunning her brows as she listens to the air about them.
Askuwheteau perks his ears at the comment from his friend before chuckling softly, "I thought you were asleep, sorry if I woke you Chewy." He looks down at his paw and can't help but grin toothily one fang hanging over his lower lip, "Thanks I'll try that, and yeah I was lucky this time. Guess I'm slipping, Or maybe I'm just not as cool as I thought I was." He glances back up at her with a smirk, "I see you've started bringing the pups out further from the den now that they are a little bigger huh? Did you have fun? I hope they weren't too much trouble. Remember I'm always here to help you if you ever want to stretch your legs and go hunting, or maybe switch jobs with me and do a border patrol on your own while I watch the puppies."
"Oh, they weren't any trouble. I brought them here, I showed them what crab apples taste like, and I told them the story of the Prince of Rabbits, and how it is that we come to hunt them." Wachiwa smiles a sleepy smile, before she closes her eyes again and half dozes in the sunlight, listening to him. "Besides. I think they needed a field trip as much as I did. I'm thinking maybe they should be shown the borders of the pack lands, so they know, when they're older, where they are and are not 'safe', as far as things go." She mms thoughtfully, and then yaawwwwwnnns, standing up, stretching, and trots over towards Asku, setting down next to him, and leaning over to lick at his face. "I should get used to this kind of thing. Some day I might have pups of my own."
Askuwheteau smiles as he is licked and he gently returns the affection, "Well perhaps the two of us need to take them out to the borders then, I don't imagine they have the stamina to walk the whole of the pack's borders, but maybe over a couple of days they can be shown the whole thing. It'll also do them good when they are older and can help out with border patrols. Ahiga will likely be the first to start joining the adults in that when he is an older adolescent." He gently nuzzles the she-wolf and presses his side to hers, "Yes I imagine you should, you've probably got a pretty good handle on what it is to be a mother already. And I think you'll make a fantastic one when you decide the time is right for you to have pups."
"Some day, maybe." Chewy murmurs, thoughtfully, looking stoically out across the grasses in thought, before she says, "But it will be... a long while, I think. Maybe not until the pack has settled from the sudden shift. Maybe not until the seasons have changed, and the wind has helped us forget the bad things that came, and remember the good things we miss." She mms softly, dipping her head a bit, and then says, "Your brother should be the one to lead the pups. One day he may have to name one of them his successor if he and Shawnee don’t have pups of their own. And being the Alpha, it is his right, too, to decide when they are ready. I think they are ready now, but. Skahla may think otherwise, especially with so many worrisome things having happened so recently."
Askuwheteau grows suddenly very serious, his brow furrowing in worried thought as his eyes follow a bird that wings it's way from one tree to another more distant one. "Yes, you are right Chewy, and especially after what has happened between me and Skahla I don't want to tread on his toes. I want him to understand that I fully support him as Alpha. I've been afraid that he sometimes thinks I'm going to challenge him for the position. I think he's had trouble trusting me and getting along with me ever since our fight last year. I'm worried that some part of him doesn't like me very much. But while I sometimes have difficulties with my brother he is my older brother and I will always love him...I just hope he knows that."
A light humming song comes from the throat of the she-wolf as she considers Asku's words, then murmurs softly, a light lilt to her words, "He is your brother, there is no point to worrying about him. The love between you is stronger than words; you are blood, which is thicker than words, and you have love, which is thicker than blood." She smiles. "He will come around in time. I think he knows that you do not hate him or want his place.. and I think you know he could never truly hate you. But in the end, everything will work itself out, I am sure. Besides, it is not like you're the one everyone wants to kill around here. My brother's got that title," she chuckles weakly.
Askuwheteau turns to look at her, a bit of surprise in his eyes at her words, then he smiles, "I suppose you are right Wachiwa, I suppose all siblings occasionally have fights. Boys more then girls since we are rather boneheaded. I don't want to kill Mori, knock some sense into his head maybe, but that again is for your sister and my big brother to do. What I really want is...I really just want everyone to be happy. I want to make everyone feel that way again, I want to drive away all the bad things that have been going on, I want the pups to play to their hearts content and not have to worry about anything. I want to be there for Skahla and Shawnee to lean on when they need it, I want Mori to get more brains, I want you to have...whatever it is you want from life. I haven't really figured it out yet but when I do I'm going to put every ounce of myself into making it happen. I just want the pack to be happy and carefree, more then anything that is my goal. To give everyone exactly what they wish most for."
A melodic laugh, before Wachiwa says, "Asku, I already have everything I want in life. I have my family, I have my very very good friends, I have puppies to watch form, I have flowers in the fields, I have birds in the sky, I have the moon at night, and the sun in the day. There's not much more for me to want, you know," Her tail gives a lazy wag, then curls at her side. "I have life, and life is what you make of it." She grins, leaning in to lick his face in a fraternal manner, "And I've no plans to join the ancestors any time soon, even if I look to them every day for guidance."
Askuwheteau turns to look out at the horizon again, a small smile curling his muzzle at the lick from his friend and he huffs, "Maybe, but you still have troubles right? Your brother is an idiot, your best friend is an even bigger idiot, which I am working on by the way. Your sister is stressed along with my brother as they try to find their own style of leading, the puppies are restless, things haven't been the easiest so far, and with winter coming it will only get harder. I'm going to do everything in my power to ease that burden though. I'm glad you are happy Wachiwa, but you can't deny things could be better. The pack still has troubles, I admit some of them I cause...like telling the pups scary ghost stories." He looks sidelong at her and smirks, "Once I've worked all the rocks out of my own head I'll start work on making Mori less of a pain for you."
"Asku," Wachiwa says, standing up, and turning back to the tree, she steps lazily, before dipping her head, catching up several of the clovers in her muzzle, and then tossing them into the air; to let the wind catch them, and cast them forth. "Troubles are like the wind; they come, they go. They will always be there. If you let yourself get caught in them like the flowers, they will carry you away. If you remain solid and firm, like the rock, you will miss the interesting things they have to bring you. If you bend, and bow, and move with them, yet keep your roots firm, like the tree, you can learn from your problems, and become better for them." She smiles, turning to face him with a wag of tail. "You are like the rock, dear Asku, you are firm and solid, but because of that, you miss the wonderful things around you. Skahla is like the flowers, he gets caught up in the wind, and lets the troubles take him where they will. I try to be like the tree. I stay where my troubles are, but I try to work with them and try to learn from them."
Askuwheteau watches the clover as they drift through the air, and then he wags softly seeming to think on Wachiwa's words before answering her, "Perhaps. You have a lot of insight Chewy..." He rises to his paws and pads over to nuzzle her and lick her cheek, "I am glad you are my friend, Ever since we were older pups I've always needed you around to remind me not to be so serious, and to stop and look around for fun now and then. Like our wrestling match a few days ago, that was the first time in ages I have just let myself go." He smirks lightly before bounding at her and dropping down into a play invitation bow, tail wagging, butt high in the air. "You wanna have another go?!"
A laugh, and Chewy shakes her head, "No, that's okay, Asku. I got my sillies out with the pups," She says, with a smile, "But you can always get your sillies out with them, too, you know. Just take time to play with them whenever you can." She chuckles softly. "Teach them silly games. Like 'The Rituals Of The Crab Tree'," she grins amusedly with herself, "Silly games I played with them this morning."
Askuwheteau laughs and lays down instead, "I understand, Yes the pups seem to have boundless energy. I can't remember a time when I was the same way, you though were always a rowdy little pup." He grinned as he teased her.
