Setting: Hilltop Vista, Ute Lands
Characters: Ahiga (Ute Adolescent), Hadir (Ute Pup)
Scene:
The morning sun hovers just above the horizon, as if reluctant to get the day started. But, regardless of the lazy sun, many creatures have already started their morning rituals. Birds flit about, seeking succulent bugs and such to feed themselves and their young. Small woodland creatures scurry too and fro to check on their collection of nuts and things. And a certain young wolf has been up for a little while now, doing some research of his own. He's heard his pals have had some troubles and are hurt, and he's not the type to merely lay around and be cool with that. Nope! Being the brave and brash type that he is, he's gone around the immediate area, seeking the fiend that's hurt his buddies. But luckily for the wolverine (and for Ahiga himself) not a trace has been found, and so the lanky wolf returns to the densite, but not empty handed! He's managed to snag a fat looking squirrel and holds the poor limp thing by the tail in his jaws.
Hadir is sitting by the hole to the den. He is a bit bigger now thanks to being a little over two months old. At the present moment most of his attention is on learning how to talk. He's managed to get a few things here and there, but definitely hasn't really mastered the skill yet. But that doesn't mean that he is going to stop trying. He hasn't had one of his fits in about a month or so and has largely forgotten about the incidents though its unlikely that Ikuna or Asku have forgotten. Still the mind of a child moves on quickly. He blinks as he spots Ahiga returning and offers him a yip.
A yip! Ahiga's ears perk up at the sound, and he raises his head a little as he gazes towards the den. Oh, it's one of the pups. Hmm... Ahiga has done a fabulous job thus far in keeping himself far away from the newest additions of the Ute. Not that he doesn't like them or anything. He just hasn't much use for pups. And plus, pups don't do much, so what is he supposed to do with them? He glances left and right, but unfortunately there's no one else around who could possibly save him from this predicament. So...he begins to head towards it, walking a bit cautiously. When a few feet away, he drops the squirrel and licks his muzzle. "Uh...s'up?" he offers in greeting, nodding his head up a bit.
Hadir watches the other wolf as he comes closer. Nope he hasn't met this one before. Thats ok though they all seem pretty much the same to him except for his mother and father. The pup doesn't really have much use for anyone other than his mother or his father at the moment either, along with his sisters of course, but that doesn't mean he isn't curious about the others. Ikuna has made a favorable impression, as has Asku. He listens to the greeting, not really sure what it means...but it is a new word...and words are cool, "Up...up up up." And its a short word which is a all the better.
"Uh...almost," replies Ahiga with an emerging smirk that's followed by a light roll of his eyes. "I see I gotta teach you to talk. That's alright. Y'know I taught Tala 'n Ikuna how to talk? If it wasn't for me, they'd still be goin' around sayin' googoo baabaa 'n stuff," he reports, jutting out his chest a little. "So try again. When somebody comes up to you, you say, s'up. Got it? Sssssss'up," he says again, emphasizing the s sound. "Now you say it."
Hadir watches him with interest. This one makes good sounds. He blinks a few times and tries to form the sound of the S. "SSSSSSSSSSSS....up." he says in response. Words are good. He likes to learn all that he can. Then he will finally be able to make himself known a bit better. He wonders about some of the others. They don't seem as interested in teaching him to talk, though his mother probably is trying too.
Ahiga perks up his ears and grins, nodding. "Exactly! Good job, uh..." He pauses, and a thoughtful look comes over his face. "Huh. Sure wish I knew what your name was." His head slightly turns to the side as he examines him, as if by closer inspection he'd be able to figure out just what this little guy is called. He really needs to pay better attention to what's going on around him, geeze. "What's your name?" he asks, but there's a skeptical tone to his voice. This kid can barely say anything, is he really going to understand the question? "Name. D'you know what that means? Name."
Hadir can't really say his name, but he has rather grasped the concept that his mother and the others that know him use a word to get his attention, and he likes that word so he will sometimes say it just randomly, "Dir." he says. Sure it isn't the whole thing but he has rather grasped the concept. Its not too hard if you pay attention. This other wolf seems to be pretty smart so he'll probably get the idea too.
Ahiga stares at Hadir a moment after he utters the sound. Or maybe it was a word. Or possibly...a name? "..Dir?" he echoes, brows raising in question. "That's your name? Dir?" He blinks once and then puffs out his cheeks a bit, holding in a laugh. He doesn't want to hurt the poor little guy's feelings but...who names their kid durrr? Leave it to crazy Skahla! He composes himself after a little and clears his throat. "You seriously need a new name," he says with a smirk. "I'll think've a better one for ya sometime. But uh, Dir...you hungry or somethin'?" he asks and uses his paw to gesture to his squirrel meal. "I got food. You eat food?"
Hadir has started to eat some normal food, but isn't hungry at the present moment. He doesn't really understand what wolf says in response to his sound. Though if he was capable of telling Ahiga his full name the other would likely not think it as strange, "Dir!" he says again. He then lifts his paw and pats it on the ground. This is something that Ikuna had taught him and it always seems to get some kind of reaction out of the older wolves.
Ahiga gently raises a brow at the paw pat. "Ok, ok, so you like your name?" he says, stomping his paw on the ground too, mimicking the pup. "Fine fine, but you'll probably change your mind about it later, I'm jus' sayin'. I wouldn't want to be called Durrrr all my life." He grins a bit and shrugs a shoulder, glancing back at his squirrel. "Not hungry either, huh? Well...I tried." He stands again and gives his body a shake. "Gotta go, pup. I gotta eat to get my strength. I'm on a mission." He bends down to grasp the squirrel by the tail again.
Hadir does like his name but that really wasn't the reaction that he was expecting. The big wolves always seem to be on the go doing something. He watches the wolf go and settles himself down by the hole to the den once more to rest and basically just chill out.
