Wachiwa, a wolf, and her wolfdog pups Kurux and Nonkene.
Ikuna and Tala, wolves.
---Behind the Waterfall---
Evening has crept over the land and Tala is slowly making her way into the cave carrying what looks like a spring hare between her teeth. She lets her gaze flick around the cave before she continues onwards towards where Chewy is to set the bit of food down andtakes in a soft breath. She soon settles to her haunches and then slides down to rest upon her belly with a forepaw pulled close to her chest.
Wachiwa is resting. Because by gosh, the days wear on. Her foreleg is finally no longer painful, and the rest has been beneficial to her, But goodness, puppies, when young, take up your energy and turn it into... Noise, and wiggling and noise and needing baths and... noise. In the same thought though.. in a small way.. she wouldn't have it any other way. Laying on her side, head on her paws, and sighing softly, she opens one eye as the hare is lane near her, and she looks up. "Oh, hello, Tala. How are you today?"
Kurux is somewhere near mom, of course. His eyes have now opened and his one brown, one blue eye stare out at the hole at the opening of the cave. He blinks when Tala comes in. He has of course smelled her before, but this is really the first time that he sees her. When he sees her come into the cave her barks excitedly. This is a new thing and so is interesting. He gets to his paws and wanders over toward her and looks up at her. Yep. This thing is different than his mom, but that doesn't mean its bad.
Nonkene lies in her back. She was asleep, but now? She's investigating the fact that she has paws. She can wiggle them, or stretch them up, or all sorts of things. They're kinda neat. She smiles, but the bark from her brother makes her pause. She turns her head to look and see... blinkblink. Oh! It's one of the not-moms. The little girl rolls over and toddles to cuddle against mama's side and watch from that safe vantage point.
Tala tilts her head, ears perking as she looks to Wachiwa, a warm smile offered to her, her tail swaying a few times. "Hello Wachiwa. I'm fine, how are you feeling?" She questions and noses the hare over to the older she-wolf. A curious look is offered to Kurux, whome she watches a few moments, ears lower a touch before she takes in a breath and lowers her head. She soon smiles, that steel-blue gaze of hers rests on the pup that is before her. "Hello there little Kurux, my you have gotten big." Seems she is accepting of the pup that is before her. She even goes to far to give the pup a sofr nosing, and playful snuffle.
Wachiwa chuckles softly at Kurux; the little bear is graver than the little deer, Nonkene, who snugs in at her side. Chewy turns to give the little she-pup some licks about the head carefully, reassuring her that it's okay for the not-mom to be there, before she stretches her forepaws slightly. "Oh, I'm well. My leg feels far better.. Although I am ... hm. I am a little worried about your younger.. and your older, brother.. as well as Ikuna." She smiles a bit thoughtfully. "I spoke with Skahla recently... Things are going to change.. perhaps with the start of these two," she says, looking to her pups, before she looks to Tala. "Tala..." she sighs, lets her mind wander a moment, then continues. "Tala, I would like to see the boys more often. I want to tell stories again."
Kurux has already had the chance to listen to a number of his mothers stories, of course his grasp of language is still very minimal but he has a few things figured out. He watches as Tala comes closer. Ooo the thing is big. He isn't really sure what to make of it. Its something like a mom, but not a mom. He eventually decides that whatever it is must not be all bad since mom is allowing it to be here. While Tala is talking to Wachiwa he comes a bit closer, and attempts to begin to chew on her paw. Gotta try the new teeth out after all. He's definitely going to be a biter.
Nonkene curves herself toward mama's licking, her ears splaying under that tongue. The pup gives a little whurrfle; not scared, really, but perfectly happy just to watch from this vantage. Let Kurux go greet the not-mom and chew on her. Nonkene's here with mama, and that's a good place to be.
Tala ears perk as she hears Wachiwa and tilts her head a soft snuffle escapes her as she feels the pup moving around her. "I.. I think there be fine." Well what can she say? Her brothers have to be fine. "I wouldn't mind hearing the stories again Wachiwa I have missed them." An unlike Ikuna she can't remember many of them, her mind was filled with such different things as a pup. At the sudden paw chewing she looks to Kurux and smirks faintly, a sudden yip escapes her to perhaps startle the pup into stoping to show HEY that hurts, not that it really does harm her but the pups must learn! "I'm more worried about Ahiga over certain things. His jaded to some degree since..all this.." As for Nonkene she knows the other is there, her tail sways slowly to softly bump against the little girl a few times.
Speaking of the boys... Ikuna enters with a slow pace. He brings no gifts of food; only, well, himself. He walks carefully to let his eyes adjust to the darkness, so sight can join scent and hearing. Wachiwa, of course. The two pups - but it seems Tala is also visiting, and Skahla has visited. About the only scent of his pack missing here is... Ahiga. For that, he has a frown, but it fades as he finishes approaching, nose-swiping his sister in passing and giving Wachiwa a nuzzle. "Hullo." His gaze wanders over the pups, then back to Wachiwa.
Nuzzling back at Ikuna as he enters, Wachiwa chuckles softly, "We were just talking about you, Ikuna. All good things, of course," she says, before looking over to Kurux, ears erect at Tala's yip. "Kurux," she says, throwing a bit of motherly scolding into the tone. "No." She does not, however, get up to stop him. Tala is a big girl, and some day, will need to know how to handle puppies, too, after all. Not that Wachiwa doubts her abilities. She sighs though when Tala mentions Ahiga's demeanor. She frowns. "I think it is time," she says, softly, "That Ahiga and I had a little talk about what it means to be family. He does not have to agree with my pups... But he should not be avoiding the pack because of them."
Kurux probably would not have stopped chewing with just the yip from Tala, but when his mother scolds him he lifts his head and blinks back at her. He doesn't like to get scolding from his mother and moves away from Tala. Who is all of a sudden a good deal less interesting. He instead turns his attention toward Ikuna and begins to bark at him.
Nonkene squeakies as Tala's tail bumps her, getting wide-eyed. A glance to mama to make sure this isn't anything bad, then... the tail thumps her again. She reaches out one of those little paws, trying to bat the tail, maybe even pin it down? But it's so big... Distracted by this, she doesn't notice that there's another not-mama - though the 'No.' makes her stop and look up, making double-extra-sure it's not directed at her before going back to her careful exploration and play.
Tala watches Kurux, a faint grin seen as she is fine really. "I'm fine.. Just letting him know he shouldn't do thta." She offers softly to Wachiwa. A ear twitches to her. "His not avoiding the pack.." Well at least not Ikuna and herself. Her gaze drifts after Kurux and she awws softly before nosing back at Ikuna glad to see him. She looks back to Nonkene and smiles softly letting the girl play and pin her tail down it would seem.
Ikuna perks his ears at Wachiwa's comment about him, and smiles. "Oh? All good? Well, I'm still sorry I've been away so much, even if you weren't complaining." With that, he settles himself down on his stomach nearby, content to listen rather than interfere with the conversation. Or at least, he was until he hears Ahiga under discussion, and there's that slight frown again. To what his sister says, he adds, "He's not avoiding me or you," he says to Tala, then looks back to Chewy. "Or... even you, I think. Just... them." He indicates the pups with a tilt of his head, and extends the motion down to peer at Kurux. "Wuff." So saith Ikuna, in the deep sort of tone only an adult can manage. He smiles, even as he continues speaking. "I think it'll take time, but... maybe he'll listen to you."
Kurux watches as his mother falls asleep. Ok. So he was really confident with her awake, but now that she has fallen asleep its a different matter entirely. He watches both Tala and Ikuna closely. Shifting his head from one side to the other. Of course he doesn't know that him being there has caused a great deal of disorder in the pack, and if he could understand he wouldn't likely care too much. He finally settles himself on the ground with a slight growl toward Ikuna and Tala. Ya better not bother my momma.
Nonkene caught it! She caught the tail. The little wolfdog's own tail wags happily, and she lowers her head to sniff at it thoroughly! It smells sorta like mama, only not. More like mama than like her brother, at least! The youngster gives it a lick, then wiggles her way further along it, straddling the fluffy appendage. This is exploration-worthy enough to actually coax her away from mama's side... at least for a while.
Tala watches as Wachiwa dozes off and then looks back to Ikuna. "No he isn't. I'm just worried about him that's all." She offers with a soft tone. Her ears lower slightly while she looks to the ground and soon lets her head settle to a forepaw while she peers over at Kurux. A faint smirk seen and her tail wiggles about a few times as Nonkene grabs hold of it.
"Oh... Miakoda wants to see the pups," mentions Ikuna to Chewy. He's grinning somewhat. "But only, she insists, if it won't disturb you, and I'm not allowed to make any assumptions that it's okay or disturb you in order to ask. So -" The young wolf trails off as he notes Wachiwa's fallen asleep, and laughs. "S'pose I'll have to ask another time," he says, and steps forward past growling Kurux to nuzzle her again before looking to his sister with a small smile.
Kurux rests his head on his paws as he keeps an eye on the interloopers. Yes. These two shall have to be watched....closely...to make sure that they don't pull any funny business. After all you gotta watch out for mom when she is napping so that she can watch out for you later. He unfortunately isn't going to make it watching them very much longer though. Puppy sleep time is coming and he yawns and begins to close his eyes. He has had a rather busy day doing nothing, and sleep his calling to him. Soon enough he is out like a light *snore*.
Nonkene paws and noses at the wiggly tail, wrestling with it until one of the twitches catches her off-guard and knocks her over onto her side. The little girl squeaks, and quickly scampers back to mama's side, hiding behind Wachiwa. Puppy's gone! Oh, no, wait... there's her eyes, peeking over.
Tala smiles and nods to Ikuna. "I bet she wouldn't mind Miakoda looking in on them." She looks to Kurux and looks amused while the pup goes from watchwolf to sleepywolf. Her attention turns over to Nonkene and she burrs out softly to the little pup. "Your alright little one, no one will hurt you in here." This said with a soft tone.
"That's what I told her," Ikuna says to Tala. He grins, and shakes his head. Apparently, Miakoda wants to be /certain/ of these things. In a way, he can't blame her. "Ah, well." He shakes his head again, settling a bit more comfortably and watching sleeping pup and squeaking one with a smile.
Nonkene watches for a few moments, then wiggles up and plants her paws on mama's back. She looks over at the two strange adults, and barks once! ...from the shelter of Wachiwa. It seems more declarative than challenging.
Tala continues to watches Nonkene, she is rather cute! Her gaze soonturns over to Ikuna. "Miakoda seems like a new one.. You think she might stick around?" She questions curious like.
Ikuna smiles. "She might. I don't know," he says, and watches for a moment longer. "We'll see." He glances out to the entrance of the cave, then rises to his feet. "I'm going to get in another patrol before it's all the way dark. Be back soon." He nuzzles his sister, and heads out.
Nonkene peers back at Tala - and Ikuna - and her little tail wags slightly. After a few moments of watching them, she plops back down to her mama's side, nuzzling in and joining mother and brother in a family nap.
Tala nods as she hears Ikuna, she gives him a nuzzle back before looking back to the puppies. She shifts and stands stretching before moving on over to the cave entrance and settls down there to keep watch over things from that area.
Ikuna and Tala, wolves.
