Minya - female adol cougar
Maul - female cougar
---Pristine Lake---
It's late morning and the air is starting to get warm. Minya has been near the lake lately, this time thinking about serious stuff. She begins to walk slowly, hoping to find her mother.
Maul has always been a solitary creature, even for her species. More so in the months since her children have learned to mostly fend for themselves. Of course she keeps an eye on them from afar, but that's just it. By and large, it is from afar. Not, the mostly absent shamaness of the Amaranth has found herself a spot in the shade of a tree as the sun begins to warm the earth, lying with her eyes closed and ears perked.
When Minya gets closer to Maul, she catches the familiar scent. She stops, trying to find Maul. She notices her and chuffs out a greeting, then begins to move a bit closer slowly.
The chuff causes Maul's ears to swivel in her daughter's direction. It is a moment later before the cougaress opens her eyes, and when she does, it is just after a yawn. Once her eyes are open, though, she stand in order to greet her daughter, stretching along the way. "Minya. How are you?" The question is given with a soft purr in her tone. Distant she may be, but she is still a loving mother.
Minya stops when she gets close enough to talk and says, "I'm fine. You?" She pauses for a few moments, then continues. "I think I am ready to start my journey."
She has let them fend for themselves. Let them learn the lessons they need to learn on their own. Somehow, though, Maul had never realised that this moment would be coming soon, and for a moment she simply stares at her daughter. She knows, immediately, what journey Minya is talking about, and it causes the shamaness to think back on her own for a moment. Finally, in a quiet voice, she asks, "You're certain?"
Minya says, "I think so..." That's not a very good answer, is it? "I don't think I will be more certain before I start." she adds after a moment with a grin. "I'm just not sure what I can expect."
"There's really... not a lot that I can tell you, Minya." To this day, Maul is not certain whether what she remembers on her own quest actually happened, or whether it is simply one of those visions she has had all of her life.
"There's... well, there's no one thing that typically happens. But you'll know, when you learn what it is you go to learn." So saying, Maul takes another step forward so that she can nuzzle at her daughter, still purring softly. "But you need to be careful. It's not the same taking care of yourself out there as it is here in Amaranth. You know that, don't you?"
Minya listens to her mother. She nods and starts to move forward when Maul does to touch her shoulder. "I know." she says.
After nuzzling her daughter, Maul spends a moment just trying to groom around Minya's ears before she speaks. "Were you planning on leaving today? I'd like to make sure you eat before you go." While it has been some time since Maul has hunted specifically for any of her children, she cannot bear the thought of Minya leaving without having eaten well. She is well aware it may seem like a stalling tactic, but she has taken her daughter's word that she believes herself capable of meeting the challenge this quest will provide.
Minya waits, enjoying Maul's tongue and scent. "I wanted to leave later today." she says. "I'm not very hungry and I will try to catch something myself before I leave."
Soon enough, Maul finishes grooming her daughter in order to take in a deep breath. "Just give me a little while, Minya. If I haven't found you again by sunset, you may leave with my full blessing. Alright?" The younger female may claim not to be very hungry, but that is one of Maul's strongest memories from her first time away from Amaranth. Hunger, the likes of which she'd never felt while she was growing up and surrounded by family. She came back half-starved, and she has seldom been of a healthy weight since. If at all possible, she wants to do what little she can to keep her daughter from suffering a similar fate.
Minya moves her head forward slightly when Maul finishes grooming her to touch her mother for a moment, before moving back a bit. "I will probably be here when I'm not hunting."
Maul gives a little nod of her head as she takes a step back from Minya. "Then I will be back soon." Before sunset, at any rate, that she might be able to say goodbye to her daughter, whether she has caught anything or not. Since she does want so to get Minya a meal before the young female leaves, though, Maul wastes no more time in turning to make her way deeper into Amaranth territory.
Minya watches Maul for a few moments, then begins to walk towards the lake to think and rest for a while.
