Scene:
It was another glorious spring day; the wind was blowing, the birds singing. It appeared like it was going to be a perfect day. Having been awake most of the night, unable to get to sleep, Hali got to see the starting of the day, but feel asleep just as the sun rose. Many hours later, opening her eyes, it was late afternoon. Stretching out preparing to stand; to prevent further waste of the day, she yawns. Half way to a stand a sudden dizziness fills her head. "Ow, my head." She was bitten in the ear not to long ago, but it wasn't that hard; taking a seat her eyes close till things stop moving.
Not feeling well, both physically and mentally, the wolf... Ahem, the OLD wolf is back. Pacing slowly through the forest with no food this time, it's a miracle it seems. Seven makes his way to the place where Hali and Lyka were, wondering what they're both up to. But, maybe he doesn't have food, but his usual humming is still there, easily heard through the trees and the wind, still the same song.
Normally, the nature lover that he is, Kasim would be looking around him on this seemingly perfect day. However, that's not the case. When he woke up today, he felt as though he didn't sleep at all last night, which was weird since he went to sleep pretty early last night. Giving a slight yawn, Kasim decides to get up anyways, but is quickly stopped when his head starts feeling like it's buzzing. It's not much but it's enough to make Kasim stop in his track for a second or two. After trying to let the feeling die down for a few minutes, Kasim gets to his paws, this time with a little less irritation, and slowly gets off the fallen log. Seems like being in the Lazuli lands through all of winter and most of spring is finally starting to take it's toll on him... or so he thinks.
Halidari isn't up to anything, though that'll be discovered soon enough. Reopening her eyes, things seem to have stopped for the time being, but as the sound of pawsteps reach her ears, she moves her head and the dizziness returns. "Dang it, Seven. Look at you did." she blurts bracing herself. Its all his fault. After a moment, when she's fully awake and her head returns to what appears to be normal, she stands and heads out running into Seven along the way.
Seven keeps walking to the girl's direction... It's NOT his fault, he hardly nipped her ear... Besides, he doesn't even know what he's been blamed for. The wolf raises a brow, "What happened this time?" The wolf softly asks, still pacing to her direction, not sure what her intentions are. She's not going to kill him is she?!
Once he finally gets down from the log and stretches for a few minutes, Kasim is just about to start thinking on what to do today when all of a sudden; his ears swivel towards behind him as he hears voices in the distance. And, if he's not mistaken, it almost sounds like the voice of Halidari. How could he forget? The first time he heard her voice, it was giving orders to him. With a small smile, Kasim starts to sprint towards the direction of the voices but, once he feels his stupid headache acting up again, he decides it's best to just walk it out...
"You, that's what,." Her reply is irritated. "You just had to go for my ear didn't you?" Hali half expects Seven to get the idea that her ear feel off or grew this enormous growth or something. Stopping up along the wolf, she peers. "I woke up in a daze and it’s your entire fault." Right not he is the only liable figure here worth of such a thing; she's no idea that it could very well possibly be something else entirely.
Appearing from behind a thicket in the near distance, just across the way on the other side of the river, a female mule deer daintily steps out into a clearing that makes her easily seen by all three of the others should they glance towards the eastern bank of the stream. Her large, oval-shaped ears swivel around before finally facing the trio of predators with an alert gaze - but otherwise, she seems to show little fear in response to the potentially great danger so close by.
As Kasim arrives on the scene, he can't help but laugh to himself at what Halidari is saying to the poor male in front of her, but does feel a bit sorry for him. "Hey, take it easy on the poor guy Halidari." he says with a slight laugh behind his voice. Suddenly, the poor male passes out in front of them. Okkkkk... that was odd. Not one to miss an opportunity to joke around with someone, Kasim looks at Hali and says jokingly, "Awww, now see what you made him do?" He smiles over to her but is then distracted when a deer suddenly steps out from behind a bush. And what's strange to Kasim is that she doesn't even look scared despite the fact that she just walked in on two predators. He simply stares at the deer with a mixture of awe and surprise before he finally says awkwardly, "Uhhhh, hi?" Well what else is there to say when food just shows up in front of you and doesn't even look scared in the slightest?!
Standing there waiting for some sort of reaction from the male, she hold herself stern trying not to make any sudden movements should her head start to spin again. However, as she does the most unexpected thing happens as a 'thud' sounds and Seven is found collapsed. First Hali thinks he's just faking it so he doesn't have to hear her complaint but then she hears Kasims voice behind her and turns. "I didn't do it." she says innocently. Turning back to the male she noses him, "Seven?" When he doesn't move Hali looks a bit worried. "Stop playing around." Nosing him again she frowns. She killed him.. No, it can't; she couldn't. Back to Kasim she mutters a few, "I..I.." before falling silent to the deer that surely wasn't there before.
The mule doe appears slightly startled by the cougar's greeting, but doesn't turn and flee as one might expect, especially from a deer with such a wide-eyed look. But perhaps even more startling to the predators themselves, the mule deer nods her head once and offers a soft greeting: "Hello." She looks down at the fallen wolf, then back up at the other two. "You have the sickness, I see." Exactly how she can tell that they're feeling bad or that they have a specific illness is beyond them, at least until she explains herself.
Startling wouldn't even begin to describe how Kasim is now feeling. Usually when he walks up to something that's edible to him it tries to run away, but this one not only didn't even move an inch, it actually answered him back! He was more expecting it to turn around and high tail it out of there. He thinks to himself that maybe his headache is worse than he thought but that idea is thrown out when the doe looks at them and states that they have 'the sickness.' "The... sickness?" he repeats uncertainly. But, hang on a sec... has he heard about this before? Maybe from someone he inquired about Lark's potential killer? It almost /does/ sound like something he's heard before but, since he can’t figure it out, he stays quiet for now.
Sickness, what is the deer talking about... they’re not sick; Hali looks down to Seven once more; he's just tired. She's seen him do this before; though somehow this time feels different. Looking back to the deer she blinks. "You saying a sickness is responsible for this?" Hali's not quiet sure she believes this; no ones been sick here for years... Walking up to the doe, stopping alongside the cougar, she looks at Kasim for a moment.
The doe nods solemnly, answering both the shewolf and the cougar simultaneously. "Yes. A sickness that originated in another land has spread to the region here. Brother Eagle was right," she muses the last part in an even quieter mutter, apparently speaking to herself aloud. "There will be others like you - you are not the only ones." As Halidari draws nearer, the mule deer takes an instinctive step backwards, an old habit, though she need not worry about being injured in her current state.
Kasim looks back at Halidari as the doe explains about the sickness. He, like Halidari, is having his doubts but only slight ones. There's something about this doe that just makes Kasim get this funny feeling about her. He doesn't really know /why/ but he has that sixth sense feeling that something is strange about this doe. Why didn't she run when she saw him and Hali? Kasim is brought out of his thoughts as the doe continues to explain further. "Are you sure I have this sickness you speak of? I feel fine." Well, except for this stupid headache and feeling more tired than normal but that's all normal stuff... right? When Hali steps up and the doe backs down away from them, Kasim tries to comfort the doe and says, "Don't worry, neither I nor Halidari here will hurt you." He then looks at Hali and says, in that questioning but firm tone, "Right?" He looks back up to the doe and continues, "My name is Kasim by the way." and he offers a polite bow of his head.
Halidari is clearly confused now. So a sickness came from another land and they got it... here is a question, how'd it get here? Failing to ask this, she looks to herself then back up. Besides from this occasional dizzy spell she feels completely fine but she said they have it and their not the only ones. "I feel fine too." Nodding afterward. "Right." Even if she would, she's in no real mood. No need to give her name; its obvious who the other is when Kasim gives his out. She does though have something to say. "If there really is a sickness and we have it... how do we go about curing it?" You’re not just told from some strange deer that your sick and not expect them to not know something about a cure right.
"I am sure. And I know you cannot hurt me," the doe replies with the subtlest of smiles. "For I passed on long ago by the claws of wolves." Despite her history, she seems to bear no ill will towards the she-wolf - perhaps she realizes that Halidari herself didn't claim her life, so she has no reason to hold a grudge against one who just so happens to be of the same species. "I no longer have a name because of this, but you may call me Sister Deer." At Halidari's question, she turns to look her natural predator directly in the eye to answer: "I do not know much aside from what Brother Eagle told me. He heard that some have spoken of a cure beyond the two rivers. But I am sorry that I cannot assist you more than that - you will have to find others who might know more."
Woah woah woah!! Hang on a sec! Did she just say that she had died before?! But... that's impossible! She's standing here now, right in front of his very own eyes. How can she be dead? Kasim's shock is clearly imprinted on his face and would be very hard to miss. He tries to compose himself when the doe--or Sister Deer that is-- continues to speak but can't do it so he just nods and says nothing. The question about the cure is Kasim would also like to know. If he /is/ sick, he wants to be cured so he doesn't continue to spread it. But, alas, he doesn't get the answer he's hoping for. A place beyond two rivers, huh? That's it? That's not much to go on... But right now isn't the time to worry about that just yet. After he finally gathers himself, Kasim looks back to Sister Deer and asks, "But, again, I feel fine... Wouldn't I know be able to tell if I was sick? If I can't then how can /you/?" It's all so confusing...
This thing is already dead; no wonder if didn't run off when it took sight of them. So if this deer is a ghost... or spirit, would that make the one that helped her mamma a spirit too? Seems this forest is full of more spirit than she thought. The shocked look on Kasim's face is meet with a raised brow, seems he hasn't meet one before. Shaking her head, she nods slowly to the rest of what was said. 'Beyond the two rivers' she tells herself a few times before looking out across the way towards the streams and rivers. Her favorite spots are near waterways, finding out what’s meant shouldn't be that hard right. Turning an ear to Kasim she blinks and was actually wondering that herself not to long ago.
"Spirits can often see things that mortals cannot," the doe explains to Kasim in a quiet voice. But they can't quite read minds, so Halidari's thoughts of previous spirits go unanswered. "As I said, you will find others like you...and unfortunately, the illness only starts off with mild symptoms." Even despite her immortal status, old habits die hard, and the doe is feeling more uneasy the longer she stays near to the predators. "I apologize I cannot help you any further. Good luck in your quest." With that, she turns and springs soundlessly away into the thicket.
A... Spirit? So that's what she was? Well this is certainly a first for Kasim. Hali may have some experience with them but, as for Kasim, he's as clueless as ever. He still has many questions that he wants answers to but is denied them when Sister Deer bounds away from them. He doesn't say anything further to the spirit, but is left with feelings of confusion and disappointment when she leaves. He stares at the spot where she disappeared for a while before finally saying, with his eyes still glued to the spot in the bushes, "A place beyond the two rivers... Where do you think that is?" He's obviously talking to Halidari but anyone who might be around them would be able to hear him as well...
To be honest, she has no idea. The river may be spots Hali likes to go, but the idea of a cure being beyond that just never came to mind. "I'm not sure; never been past the rivers to tell you the truth." This she says as she gazes back to where the deer had been standing. "Perhaps we should ask around. Someone should know what lies beyond, don't you think." She turns to Kasim. "And if not, they we may just have to take a trip." Course the idea of going on a trip knowing that their conditions could worsen isn't actually at the top of her list.
Giving a long sight, Kasim can only nod at Halidari's question. "I've been around here for a while now. I wouldn't mind sticking around a bit longer and ask around to those I see." Not that he really has a choice since he still has a promise to Storm to keep. Still, one thing has been on his mind since Sister Deer brought it up and it worries him greatly. "Sister Deer said that the sickness starts off with mild symptoms. If we have it and don't really know it yet, then that most likely means that this is the mildest it gets. I'm worried what will happen once it gets worse..." What he's more worried about is the thought of one of his friends catching the sickness... like Maul. If she caught it and something happened to her, he wouldn't know what to do. He needs to find the cure and fast! Before it gets any worse than it already is and spreads.
Halidari takes in the words of Kasim with great concern. "All we can do is let the sickness run its course; though I'm not saying that we just sit back and let it consume us either." Taking a look out to the open she nods. "Don't worry, we'll find a cure." she says, sounding as confident as she can. "But first we need to find out as much as possible about this as we can." Easier said than done right? "If we all work together, I know we'll make it through this." She just hopes she right.
Although he still has his doubts about this--and who wouldn't-- Kasim starts to feel a lot better after Halidari's words. He gives her a big smile and says, "Yeah, your right, of course we'll find the cure!" Ahh, there's his cubbish instinct leaking through again. Once that's out of the way, Kasim goes back to being serious about this. "In the meantime, you've gotta warn you pack and Johari about this and make sure no one else gets it. I'll stay out here and ask everyone that I can if they've heard about it." From the info they've been given by Sister Deer, it sounds like a good plan to start with. That just leaves... Seven. Kasim turns to look back down at the still passed out male and asks, "What should we do with him?"
"That’s the spirit." Hali smiles to Kasim. "Telling them is first on my list." Not tell her family would be like she doesn't care, and she does care. Following the look to Seven, she had almost forgotten about him. Moving back over to him she sighs. "Leave him. There’s nothing we can with about him till she awakens." Which she hopes isn't to long. The last thing she needs is to lose a friend. "An eye should be kept out though, should he get worse or mistaken for dead and eaten." It’s highly unlikely that he'll be eaten but you never know. “He’s a good friend and I hate to see something happen to him."
Kasim sighs again and nods at Halidari's statement and continues to stare down at Seven. "We should have asked Sister Deer how the sickness was contagious. Looks like we won’t be touching anyone for a while." Just to be sure. Why risk anything when the sickness has already spread from another region to here? Still, Kasim knows that it'll take a lot of mental strength to try not to do that. At Halidari's last statement, Kasim smiles and nods. "Yeah, friends should always have each other’s backs." His smile widens when he stats thinking about Maul. She's always had his back and now he has to have hers. He'll have to tell her about this sooner or later but, right now, he has more important matters to attend to. Kasim gets to his paws and looks at Halidari. "I'll leave him in your care then. He's your friend. In the meantime, I've gotta go get started asking around." He turns around to go before he looks back at Hali and says, "Stay strong. Don't let it take control of you." And with that, Kasim walks off back to the fallen log to maybe get a small nap before he starts his new mission.
Halidari nods a few times to this. "Alright, I'll do my best." She hasn't the slight idea about how to go about taking care of someone with an illness she knows nothing about, guess she should treat it like a cold or something for the time being. Taking a seat next to the conked Seven, she begins to wonder what’s next as she waits for someone else to show up so she can spread the word to the pack and cross that off the list.
