(This scene branches off from the forum scene "Guests", taking place after Ahiga and Tala's departure)
Characters: Ahiga and Tala, Ute wolves
Setting: Windblown Lowlands
Scene:
Ahiga does not stop his retreat despite Tala's presence. He's not sure if he wants her along of if he's rather vent this out on his own, but either way, he doesn't discourage her from coming with him. Skahla's verdict, whatever it may be, is not heard, and thus the fate of their pack, whether the number of members has been upped by two or not, is something he'll have ot find out later. At the moment, he hardly cares. As aggravating as the thought of Grim and Brutal being one of them is, that's not on the forefront of his mind right now, although it remains to be a source of ire. But no. His thoughts are on a more personal matter, one that keeps his paws moving further and further away from both Skahla and Ikuna, with Tala in tow. He speaks not a word to her as he stalks across the landscape, blood still boiling, and it's a while before his angered pace begins to slow. The grass is tall here, and the wind, as always, windy. The lowlands. He snorts out a few breaths, resembling an irritated bull in his actions, until he finally rounds on Tala, turning to face her. "I /hate/ when he does that." He doesn't yell his words. In fact, the volume is the direct opposite. A hissed sort of whisper spoken through gritted teeth, which somehow sounds angrier than shouted words.
Tala follows after Ahiga, her ears flicking forward and back a few times while she takes in the different sounds inccase someone may be following after them. So far though, not a one is! She is quiet while following, that steely gaze of hers settling her Ahiga's tail, her mind going over everything that has happened up until he stops and there in tall grasses. Her head lifts, gaze drifting as she didn't think they would have came this far, but she doesn't press the matter. She lifts her head and nose upon Ahiga's cheek while she settles to her haunches. "Ahiga.. Ikuna means well and you know that." This said with a soft tone, a faint breath escaping her. "We should have kept quiet through it all. I'm more to blame then you in the matter." She is rather sure her words hit more nerves then his, like they normally do. Her form moves, shoulder pressing upon his while her gaze drifts over the area before them, her mind still wandering. "Ahiga.." Is said at first, her words soft, thoughtful almost. ".. Do you want to stay here with the pack?" Short question, that is not a easy one to answer, and for sure not innocent with a mind like hers.
"No, we shouldn't've," remarks Ahiga, annoyed, lightly pulling away from her touch. "Why should we have to keep quiet? Without us, this pack would be nothin'. After your parents died, it wall went to crap anyway. /We're/ the ones that held it together. Not Skahla. Not Shawnee. Not Wachiwa. Not Asku. Us. We did the hunting. We kept Hadir an' the rest fed. We patrolled the borders. We're the ones that fought the dogs. So after all that we've done for our pack, why should we have to keep our mouths shut now? Why don't we have the right to ask questions that bother us or to say what's botherin' us without bein' told to shut up?" He gently bristles again, not bothering to sit as agitation keeps him from keeping still anyway. He moves from her, though not exactly away from her. Pace is all he does, walking an imaginary line a few yards away, then turning to walk that same line back, held kept low. "An' stop stickin' up for Ikuna all the time. He's not as perfect as he wants to act. It's all fine 'n good when we're all together, but once there's anyone else around to see, he acts like I'm nothin' but a lackey that's got to be put in his place, an' I'm sick've it." His teeth bare slightly, but he pauses to look at her, brows furrowing at her question. Does he want to stay here with the pack? "Why?"
Tala is quiet as she hears Ahiga, her gaze following after him as he paces. "I know Ahiga.. But Skahla is alpha. He may not have acted like it all the time but that is his right. He is also my brother.." There is a slight pause. "We may not have a good relationship but that is how things happen. As alpha he is the one that speaks, and we as the pack should no question until we are back amount the pack not those two stupid flea bags." No she does NOT like Grim and Brutal, well mostly Grim. She blinks hearing Ahiga speak of Ikuna and she frowns at this while shifting to her paws suddenly very quickly. A low growl rests in her chest as she pushes forward towards Ahiga, ears back. Someone hit a nerve.. "Enough!.. Ikuna cares for you deeply, like a brother, he has done nothing but stuck up for you and wanted to the best. Don't go pulling this act with me. If anything Ikuna is more alpha then Skahla and if that would be the case he needs respect like any alpha would. And he has NEVER put you in your place as our father would have." Her hackles are on end for a few moments before they smooth out and she actually paces away from Ahiga to settle upon her haunches, her ears pinned back and gaze narrowing on the tall grasses. "I'm thinking of leaving the pack."
Ahiga doesn't hesitate to growl back at her as she approaches him so fiercely, eyes narrowing. Not that he'll do more than growl. "I don't need him to stick up for me, if that's what he's been doing. I can take care've myself, which I don' think he really understands or believes." His jaw clenches now as he follows after her, though from the look on his face it doesn't seem as if it is to seek forgiveness or to console. "What are you sayin' then? I /need/ to be put in place? What would your father've done, huh? Or what should Skahla do? Or Ikuna, since he's /so/ Alpha like to you? Throw me down an' rough me up til I cry an' plead? An' then after, what would you have me be? A wolf that never says anything an' goes along with everything no matter how wrong I think it is?" His brows rise as he watches her, close enough now that she could bite his nose if she wanted, easily. "If that's what this pack is, then there's no thinkin' about it. I'm out."
Tala is quiet as she hears Ahiga, her ears lowering and her eyes closing tightly. "No.. I don't want that of you Ahiga.. I only said that to prove that Ikuna is not like my father. His different, and caring and only wants what is best for his family, including you." She lifts her gaze to look up at Ahiga, all anger gone. "I've always wanted you to be who you are Ahiga, I never asked you to change and I'm not going to ask you to change now or any other time. I just want us all to be a pack again an I'm understanding that it’s never going to happen." Her gaze turns back to the grasses. "If Brutal and Grim stay then I'm leaving. I want no part of them."
Ahiga inhales a breath and exhales it slowly. The creases of his face are slow to relax, but...they're relaxing. The frown of angered frustration gradually melting from his face as he wills himself to calm down and not push away the only childhood friend he may have left after today. Sigh. His ears fall back and, after a long time, he sits back onto his haunches in front of her. Fractional bits of that frown remain, a tenseness still there, but at least they've gotten past the growling at each other part for now. "I'm glad..cuz I don't know who else to be besides who I already am," he says, eyes drifting from her. Although his frustrations with Ikuna are far from settled, his thoughts turn now to the other problem at hand. Grim and Brutal. "Skahla's not gonna see nothin' wrong with them. Brutal's good at sayin' the right thing to make him look all noble an' crap, an' Grim goes along with whatever he says. I don't want them with us. Everything in me says it's a bad idea. There's somethin' not right with those two, and I'm never goin' to be part of any family they're part of. If they're in, I'm going with you."
Tempers and stress has for sure flared recently with everything going on. And Tala is rather relieved that Ahiga doesn't continue on with it. Even with the air still tense she leans forward to press her head against his neck, her eyes closing tightly while she takes in a soft breath. "I'm sorry.." Is soon offered, a soft murmur escaping her in the process. "And I know that.. I.. I don't understand why Skahla can't see what we see with those two." A slight nod is seen at this and a faint breath escapes her. "Alright.." Is soon murmured out. "I never thought I would have to make this decision before."
This time, the young wolf doesn't pull away from her touch and is instead relieved by it. He lightly leans into her, exhaling another slow breath as he closes his eyes. "M'sorry..." Ahiga says in return, knowing that he has much to apologize for. Growling at her. Being snide to her. Speaking badly of her brother. Brothers, actually. Sigh. "I don' like this. This is /our/ pack. We shouldn' have to be runnin' away. But .. maybe it'll take us leavin' to make Skahla realize we're not pups an' we might know things that he doesn't." He frowns a little, eyes opening. "I'm not worried about us though. We can make it without the whole pack. We've done it before."
Tala tail sways faintly as she hears him and she tilts her head to give his cheek a soft lick. "I know.." Is murmured out softly, her ears perking and she tilts her head. "No, we shouldn't have to leave our home, or our family but.. It is looking like we have no choice. Unless we want to agree with everything." Which she is /not/ going to do.. A nod is seen while she tilts her head to look at Ahiga. "I know we have... But, Ahiga.. We need to talk to Ikuna." There is a soft pause. "Please.. I can't do anything without him knowing." Or asking him to come.
"I know..." Ahiga agrees, albeit quietly. "I know we've to talk to him...an' I know he's not gonna like it either," he remarks. "An' I know he's gonna want to talk us out've it, so... if you're really serious about this, you've gotta stand up for it. Make'm understand how you feel about it all. He can't say no to that, if he knows, an' if you really want to go... he won't stop you." He hopes. One can never truly guess what another's reaction is going to be, or what someone will do to keep family together, despite whatever else may be happening. "If he wants to stay, I'm still goin'. I don't want to have to keep lookin' over my shoulder every second an' watching what I say, an' that's how I feel it'll be with those two around."
Tala nods slightly and takes in a breath. "I know Ahiga.." She offers with a soft murmur as her head lowers a touch. "An I'm serious about this.. I can't be here and deal with them wolves while trying to deal with everything else." She frowns now. "That isn't bad of me is it.. Wanting to leave my pack?" It’s not a easy decision for her it would seem, but she isn't know to changing her mind once it has been made at least!
"If it's bad of you, then it's bad of me too," Ahiga says, falling quiet for a moment to think her words over. After a while, he lowers his head to gently nudge her, urging her to look at him. "It isn't bad. Things ... change. This pack has changed a lot in a short time. I mean, think about it. Since the time we were pups til now, things are hardly the same anymore. Stuff around us has changed, an' I think it's just our time to change. Maybe it's what we need ... to feel happier. I don't like feelin' the way I've been feelin lately. Maybe if we leave an'.. I dunno, find a place that's ours, all the bad thoughts and feelings will go away, and it'll kinda be like what it was before."
Tala is quiet while she watches the ground which to her feels like forever, her gaze slowly lifts so she can look back at him and she takes in a soft breath. "I know change isn't a bad thing.. It just none of this should have happened. We should all still be a family again like it was before." Well she can still wish she supposes. She shifts forward and settles at his side, her shoulder pressing to his, and her head settled under his head, cheek pressing to his chest while she takes in a soft breath. "Maybe it is what we need to do.. Go and start over."
"It'll be alright, I promise. We'll ... figure something out, an' in the end all've this sad stuff will just be a memory." He lowers his head a tad so that his chin rests upon the top of her head a bit. Truly, he doesn't like it when she's sad or upset, especially if he's the cause for such feelings. And though he's not the cause right now, it doesn't change the fact that she is still sad and he wants to fix it. "Hey.. t'be honest, I don't even know what Skahla said. He could've told those jackholes to beat it." Though even as he says it, he feels doubt. "And if he didn't, well, we have our plan. Tell Ikuna we're outta here, and maybe he'll come with us. An' maybe others might want out too. I mean, we're not the only ones who don't care for those brothers. Hadir may come. Miakoda only really talks to us, so she might follow. We can all start over an' still be a family.”
Tala nods at this while she snuggles close to Ahiga and soon settles down to her stomach to cuddle there with him it seems. Her mind is tired, she's stressed and after taking her anger out on Ahiga she feels rather bad about it. "I know.. And we have one another so we should be able to help each other." An maybe Ikuna and Miakoda as well.. It’s an aidea. "True.. As for Hadir I wouldn't want to pull him from his father. I don't want Skahla to think we are trying to steal his son."
Ahiga is more than willing to lay down and just... be. It's been a trying day that promises trying times ahead. Anger takes a lot out of a wolf, and once he's on his stomach it doesn't seem as if he'll be in any hurry to get back up again. He leans against her, eyes half closed, head rested against hers. "Somehow, I don' think Skahla's gonna care too much where Hadir is. S'not like he's a ... model son for an alpha," he says. "An' it's not like Skahla's spent any time with the kid. But I'm not sayin' we steal the pack from him or anything. Jus' ..offer. If they wanna come, fine. If not, that's fine too. Besides, Skahla didn't seem too bent outta shape that Althaea's been off on her own with Brutal, and he's pretty much a stranger. If he has issues with Hadir comin' with us, if he does want to, then /I've/ got a problem with Skahla."
Tala is quiet while she listens to him, a soft breath escaping her while she shifts and wiggles against him, her tail flicking a few times. "I know Ahiga.. But still I don't want him to think that is what we're doing you know?" She questions with a soft breath escaping her at the thought. "We're figure it all out I'm sure." The more she thinks about it, the more she is looking forward too when they leave. Maybe it won't change too much but only time will tell.
Ahiga bobs his head once, gently. "I know. M'probably not Skahla's favorite wolf right now after today anyway. Givin' him too many reasons to be pissed at me is just askin' for trouble, isn't it?" A light smirk follows. "Guess we'll just have to see what happens. I know that... no matter what, as long as you're with me I'm alright." He lowers his head to rest it across her neck briefly, silencing himself to listen to the breeze.
Tala snorts at that. "I haven't been Skahla's favorite wolf since I was born, so don't worry about that." Her ears pin back against her head at the thought. "Ya.. I'm sure he’s gonna give us what for after today and I don't care. I'm gonna give it back even." She mutters out at the thought. Her gaze lifts and she smiles as she hears Ahiga. "When we got each other everything's fine."

The more she thinks about it, the more she is looking forward too when they leave.
