Miakoda and Tala
Rolling Foothills
---
Miakoda has no idea where she's going, really. She's just... going, rather heedless of where her paws are carrying her. As it so happens, the young she-wolf's paws are bringing her up, and she's crossed a solid bit of ground in the foothills before she realizes that she's higher up than she was before and that the terrain is changing. There's more rock here, and... oh, that's why. Mia stops, looking at the steeper slope that's just a little farther south and at the mountain just beyond it. Go there? Maybe. Why not? The pack that she had been ready to pledge to, or at least to ask to pledge to, has now fallen apart.
The pack is not really falling apart, just changes are being made. Tala had went off hunting, her one way and Ahiga another and at the moment she is slowly moving through the grasses, head lowered as she sniffs here and there. Her ears perk forward, nose twitching and she lifts her head to let her gaze flick around until movement is picked up. It takes her a few moments before soon enough she does catch sight of Miakoda. A soft chuff escapes her, ears perking forward while her blue gaze rests on the younger wolf.
Miakoda's back is facing the direction that she came from and given her preoccupied mindset, she does not sense the presence of the other she-wolf until she calls out. She jumps a little where she's standing, body lowering a bit as she turns to look over the length of her back. Surprise shows on her face as she sees its Tala. Sure, the older wolf had returned her howl just a short time ago... but she had not expected to be followed. Though well, who's to say she is? Maybe Tala just happened to be going this direction for her own reasons. But still, no reason to be impolite. A smile, albeit one tinged with sadness, is seen as she lets out a low-throated bark in reply.
Tala watches Miakoda curiously, her ears flick forward and back a few times as if checking to see if anyone else may be around. A faint smile is seen and she soon nods. "Hello Miakoda..." She isn't sure how the other may feel towards her after everything that has been going on so is a bit quiet.
This looks like it has the potential to become an awkward situation with both the she-wolves alternating between staring at each other, and the ground, and the grass, and the rocks. But Miakoda's mind is filled with far too many unanswered questions and she believes that Tala will be the best one to help. After all, the disagreement seemed to be centered between Ikuna and Ahiga. Of course it's a couple males lousing things up; pfeh. Turning herself around, Mia walks slowly closer to the other wolf, head lowered as is her tail, neutral. "So is everything as bad as it sounded?" It's a very broad question.
Tala ponders the question from Miakoda, a ear flicking while she shifts to settle down to her haunches. A soft sigh escapes her. "It... Isn't that bad, at least for you." This said with a soft tone while she watches the younger wolf a few moments before she looks off. "I'm sorry this all had to happen though. Its not anything that I would believe could happen until now."
"I wouldn't be so sure of that," Miakoda says quietly regarding how the situation affects her, coming to a halt not too far away from Tala and sitting, her eyes dropping down to a pile of rock that's in front of her. But she doesn't say more than that, at least not now; instead she looks back up to the other she-wolf. "What did happen? Was it really something with Brutal and Grim? Why are those two idiots even still around at all?" By the time she asks the last question, the heat of her annoyance and frustration can be heard in her voice.
Tala ponders this while looking back to Miakoda. "Yes it was. Brutal felt the need to boss everyone around and act like he was alpha when we first came to the falls. Other things happened as well, but I just don't trust him in the least." Even more so now how Alhaea is flocking to the /older/ wolf something about it just doesn't set right with her. "As for Grim, he is the worst type of scum to ever be found. An you need to stay away from Grim. I fear for any female near him."
Miakoda looks past the other she-wolf toward the open flatlands that she left last night, where in the distance, the falls lie. "I remember Brutal at that pond, before you all even left to come here. How he acted there. So... " She tries to find a sufficiently descriptive word that isn't also, uh, impolite. " ...belligerent and full of himself. I'd like to know where he gets his attitude, cause I sure don't see any pack eager to follow him wherever he goes. Only his stupid brother." Her ears turn back and she sighs. "So Ikuna let those two bozos... what, join the pack?"
Tala nods slightly. "Impolite is one way to say it." This said as she mutters at the htought. There is a blink and she shakes her head. "No.. Ikuna did not allow them to join the pack. Skahla has allowed Grim and Brutal to remain guests of the pack, for now at least." She wishes Ikuna would tel them to leave, it would help SO many things.
Miakoda was about to ask how Ikuna could have allowed them to join the pack she is still in the dark about his being made Alpha. But Tala's remarks have not done too much to make things clearer, although they solidify her misimpression that Skahla is still leader; instead she has more questions. "Didn't anyone tell Skahla that letting them stay was... well, um. Not smart? I mean, I haven't seen Skahla around at all, he probably doesn't know how Brutal and Grim behave."
Tala is quiet for a moment, ears lowering and her eyes close tightly for a few moments. "Yes.. But... There is an old tradation with the Ute. Everyone is to be made felt welcome. It seems because Althaea and Brutal are friends Skahla is willing to give the brother's another chance." This is how she sees it. Her brother allowed some young wolf to make up his mind, an all problems to linger within the pack. "So they get a second chance."
A shadow of doubt washes onto Miakoda's face and when she talks again, her voice has once more reverted to a whisper. "Making others feel welcome is one thing... but letting them stay after they've worn out their welcome is another. But what do I know? I'm just a lone wolf." The she-wolf lets out another, longer sigh and her ears turn back, folding down. "Well... now I understand why you and Ahiga are ready to leave. But why isn't Ikuna going with you? I didn't think he was a big fan of those brothers. But maybe I was wrong."
"He isn't a big fan of them, but he feels... I suppose that he needs to stay now that he is alpha." Tala says with a soft tone. "I...I don't know Mikaoda. Maybe he wants to stay to try and make things right, to try and fix things." Though she doesn't think anything /can/ be fixed with Grim and Brutal involved in the mess now.
"What?" It is said in a loud voice, and it's loud purely due to shock. Miakoda's head snaps up and her ears turn forward again toward the other she-wolf. "What do you mean, now that Ikuna is Alpha? I thought you just said that Skahla was the one who told Brutal and Grim they could stick around." She's right back to square one as far as being confused is concerned and that is written all over her face.
Tala looks to Miakoda, watching her a momen. "Skahla allowed Brutal and Grim to remain guests and then made Ikuna alpha." A snort escapes her and a faint rumble is heard. "Skahla did nothing but pass on a problem to Ikuna that he couldn't or /wouldn't/ deal with."
Miakoda's muzzle parts as she's ready to ask why Ikuna didn't just reverse Skahla's decision and kick the brothers out... but then the answer comes. For whatever reason, Ikuna has chosen to stick with his predecessor's judgement. " ...But that makes no sense!" she suddenly blurts. "Why wouldn't he make his own choice about Brutal and Grim? He knows they're no good!" The question doesn't really seem to be directed at Tala; she's only letting out her feelings.
Tala shakes her head. "I don't know why Skahla isn't dealing with it himself." A faint sigh escapes her and she lifts forepaw to scratch at her neck a few times. "I just feel bad that Ikuna is not left to deal with everything."
Miakoda works to get her frustration under control. She is very nearly an adult, yes, but that teenage tendency to get swept away by emotion continues to linger for her. In the end she nods to Tala's sentiments. "Yeah... and I bet he doesn't like the idea of having to go back on the previous Alpha's decision just as he was made Alpha himself." So now she can see it from both sides. From Ahiga and Tala's, with their disgust at having to continue to endure the brothers; and from Ikuna's, with his hesitance to undo Skahla's verdict. "What if... what if Ikuna knew he had the support of the pack to go against what Skahla said? I mean even Skahla can't get all indignant if he sees its what the pack wants."
Tala shakes her head slightly. "There is more to this I fear... Perhaps some that I do not even know for that matter. Ikuna feels this is what needs to happen for the moment." An she isn't happy with it of course. "Ikuna has suggested we try to find three new pieces of land. A place for Ahiga an myself, a place for Ikuna, Skahla and the rest and then a place for the two brothers." She can hope in a pit of spikes.
Miakoda lets out a loud scoffing sound and her ears tilt back again although not as severely as they had earlier. "And why should it be Ikuna's responsibility to find a territory for those two?" Tala should be able to figure out what two she means easily. The she-wolf stands up, ears turning forward and tail lifting in a more assertive, assured manner. "I'm going to go talk to Ikuna. Can't hurt, can it? I'm already on my own, so what's the worst that can happen, I'm keep on being alone?"
"Ikuna has asked Ahiga an I do to look for these lands. An I don't know why he feels they should be found lands but... Ikuna has asked me to do this so I will for now." Tala watches Miakoda, a soft smile seens. "Miakoda... Talk to Ikuna, but please to not be cross with him. Please be his friend and do what I can not, stay at his side." It's not a question, more like a wishful thought. "Please take care Miakoda." This said while she shifts up onto her paws and starts to move off, ears lowering slightly as her mind is filled with many things now it would seem.
Who knows where she will wind up at the end of all this. Miakoda realizes it is entirely possible that she will go to talk with Ikuna, only to be met with anger and promptly booted out the way she came. If that happens, will she come back here and try to join with Ahiga and Tala? It is unlikely, as doing so will make her feel moderately awkward, the tag-along, the fabled third wheel. "I will," she says to the she-wolf, giving her a smile as she breaks into that infamous wolf lope, the one that seems to happen without effort but that eats mile after mile.
