Characters: Kesh, (female lynx), Lily (female juve. coyote), Sanuye (female coyote)
Setting: Merging Tributary
Scene:
Winter is getting closer and closer, a faint breeze can be found in area that holds a colder edge to it thanks to autumn. Sanuye is slowly moving along through the fallen leaves, her paws carrying her along at a slow trot, just a faint bit of noise heard while she moves along. Her gaze flicks over to the area and she hums a moment. "Lily?.." Is called out softly knowing her daughter is here, trying to be all sneaky!
Lily has been spending a /little/ bit more time out the den. Emphasis on little. The world is a big and scary place, and even though she's a little older than her former newborn self, that doesn't exactly make her any braver! And so while she's outside the den, she's just barely so, keeping herself near enough for a quick getaway if needed! She's burrowed underneath the fallen leaves so that only her nose can be seen. She hears something! She freezes, peeeeeking from under a leaf. Oh, it's mom. She giggles. "Mommy," she answers but says as hidden as possible!
Totally speaking and hiding always works! Sanuye chuckles softly, a soft smile crossing her face while she slowly moves along, pausing as she catches sight scent and grins slightly. Her head tilts, a faint glance drifting over the area before she catches that little black nose over there! "Oh.. Where can she be?! I hope the leaf monster didn't get her..."
Getting cooler is a good thing. For Kesh it means that the summer of shedding is over and her fur can start growing unabated without losing any of it. There's a certain something special about having those long, unkept strands jutting out everywhere so that when the sun shines just right she looks like a bramble patch. This makes hunting slightly easier and greatly boosts her moral. As usual, she lounges on the partially fallen tree that leans out over the river, its broken off trunk giving her a vantage point twenty feet above the ground and over the water. This means she's almost never noticable, but almost always aware of happenings going on below. As such, the nearby coyote voices are heard, but not yet done much about.
Giggle! Oh she will never be found! Never ever because Lily is an /expert/ hider. She squints her eyes closed because it's a proven fact that if you can't see someone, they can't see you either! Her tail wiggles excitedly, and it slips out from beneath the leaves, so now her nose AND tail can be seen! Not that she notices. She peeks an eye open just to see where her mother is, then quickly shuts it again. Cue another giggle! Leaf monster. Oh how silly! Heh heh...right? There's... no such real thing...right? "Lily's not over here, nuh-uh..." That'll throw her off!
Well of course there are no leaf monsters! But does Lily really /know/ this or not?" Sanuye ponders while her tail wiggles about and she shifts on her paws seeming to move away from where Lily is! "Oh, alright well maybe she is over here then." This said with a soft tone as she seems to be moving further and further away... "I hope that leaf monster doesn't get her! I saw it moving around..."
Leaf monster? Kesh sits herself up on the soft, rotted wood bowl she likes to lounge in and peers between slats of gradually disintegrating tree bark to view what goes on below. Coyote. Looking for her young. Playing. Aaaah. The feline props her jaw in that nook of dry rot and old bark to continue observing, ears tufts raised up just enough to get a better hear on the game.
Wait a second. Lily's pretty sure now that she saw one of those monsters the other day! It was prickly looking and it waddled...and there were leaves on it! "Mommy!" She bursts out from her hiding spot and bounds towards the coyote, taking hopping steps. "I /saw/ one! I reallyreallyreallyreally did!" Pant pant! She catches up with her and batbats at her tail to get her attention. "A leaf monster was here!" Gasp!! The lynx thus far goes unnoticed, her attention so focused on her mom and the alleged monster.
Sanuye hums, her ears flicking forward and she blinks while looking around to catch sight of Lily. "OH! Lily there you are!" She tilts her head and lowers to nuzzle against the pup. "You did.. Where??" This questioned while she looks around trying to find said leaf monster!
Kesh shifts her jaw a little bit and makes with the stretching, clawing into the soft wood she lounges in, briefly distracting from the coyote play going on below. Once done she flicks a lick on her own nose pad and resumes watching the mother and offspring below. At least, that's what she assumes is the case... can never be too sure around here.
"Uh HUH! I did!" Lily reiterates with a very slight nuzzle back. This is not time for nuzzling. It's time for monster reporting! "It was... it was, uh..." Now..where was that monster that she saw that one time a long time ago? Blinking, she turns around looking left. Then right. Then turns all the way around twice.. "Uuuhmmm....over THERE!" she finally says pointing randomly towards the river. "It was right there, I saw it. An' it was like...waaay fuzzy n' .. uh, with leafs everywhere! An' it uh..it had, uh...bigbig HU-MUNG-GI-NOR-MOUS teeth! Like this!" She demonstrates by baring her fangs. Raaawr, so scary!
Sanuye chuckles and lowers her head to nose at Lily. "I see." This said with an amused tone while her tail swaying about a few times. "Really... An you got away! That was good!" She gives her pups cheek a soft nuzzling. "Are you hungry?"
Big teeth and covered in leafs. This gets Kesh thinking. What fits this description, or at least looks somewhat like it? Hrm. Maybe the young 'yote had a weird dream of some sort. That's all this feline can think of, anyway. Lazy, mostly lidded eyes continue to peer down from twenty feet above and about fifty feet down river from the duo.
Lily hugs her paws around her mother's nose, tail wiggling. "Uh huh. I hided an' as waaaay quiet...an' it went away." She grins proudly. See? Who needs to be super brave when obviously hiding away works just fine? She unhugs her mother's muzzle and goes back on all fours. "Yes, I'm hungry." She glances to the den. Oooh, no sisters about! Which means, no sharing!
Sanuye smiles and nods while nuzzling against her little girl's chest a few times. "You did good! Come on then I have something for you." This said softly while she turns to head back towards where he den is, there is a rabbit over there then she was busy getting it seems! "I bet you like it.."
Awe. Coyotes moving somewhere where Kesh can't see. Ah well. It was an amusing little distraction. The feline drags her jaw back out of the notch of bark and resumes her usual activity: cleaning herself.
Trot, trot! Lily trots right after her mother, stomach already grumbling at the prospect of food. Milk, milk, yummy milk! She's ready for some... waaait a minute. She blinks as she's brought to, not a comfy place to lay down and nurse, but...a fuzzy bunny! Blink! She stops and looks from rabbit, to mom, to rabbit, to mom. She wrinkles her little nose. "I don't like it." Sure she hasn't tasted it yet, but still, she's SURE it's yucky.
Sanuye settles down and peers at Lily at the comment already given, a slight laugh escapes her while she then goes about pulling some fur off the rabbit so it flutters on over to Lily and snags upon her cute little nose! "You’ll have to get use to eating it soon dear." This said with a soft tone while she pulls off a bite of rabbit and chews on it a few times, chewchewchew! Then the half chewed rabbit she dumps upon a leaf near the pup. "Try it?"
Lily's eyes cross as a bit of fluff lands on her nose. Hmm. Sniff sniff...achoo! A sneeze has that bunny fluff floating off of her nose, and with her earls perking, she batbats at it with a giggle. Ok. The fluffy part is kind of fun. But the eating part? She siiiighs and plops back down, eyeing dear old mom as she prepares a bit of her and deposits it down for her to eat. She looks doubtful. She leans forward and sniffs. "Yuck! Smells like...like...like yucky." She sticks out her tongue and makes a face!
Sanuye looks amused while she watches Lily, a soft chuckle escapes her and she tilts her head with a soft wruff escaping her. "You have to try it. Your sisters are already eating it. I bet you can eat it just as well as they can! Or... are they better then you?" Oh yes, dear mom sticks on the peer pressure!
Her sisters are /weird/, that's why they're eating this stuff! If they were smart, they'd refuse like she has and stick with the yummy milk stuff instead of going to that chewy chew whatever it is they're trying to force down her gullet now! Lily lifts up her muzzle stubbornly, closing her eyes. No way, no how! Hrmph! And she's like this...until her mom continues on. Her sisters... better than her? She peeks open one eye. "No way.." She opens her other eye. "Mebbe...I’ll have jus'...a lil' bit..." MAYBE.
Sanuye watches the pup a few moments and tilts her head while she chews on a bite of the rabbit for herself. "Well I think you'd like it after a few tries." This said with a soft tone. "Cause you can't have milk forever." Mom here would go crazy!
..Why can't she have milk forever? Works out just fine for Lily! Mwuahaha! Her little nose wrinkles up as she looks at that hunk of meat again. Ok. She said she'll try a little bit. She /might/ try a little bit. And...her mom's eating it. She's watching her do it right now. Her daddy eats it too. And her crazy sisters. "Ooo-kaay." She'll try it, just this once! But she's gonna hate it! She just knows it! She shuffles forward, sniffs at the meat. She glances at her mom...then at the meat...then folds her ears back and takes a tiiiny iiity bitty bite. Chew...chew..
Sanuye nods slightly while watching the little one while chewing on another bite of rabbit, her tail swaying a few times. "There you go." This said with a soft tone. "See, it's not that bad right?"
UGH! It's DISGUSTING! It's so GROSS! It's...Lily's eyes halfway squint closed as she prolongs swallowing as long as she can....but eventually, she does. And.. Hm. Her ears perk a bit. Well, maybe it's not so disgusting. It's not so gross. It's...kinda ok. She licks at her muzzle and glances at her mother. "I /guess/" she says, not really wanting to let her mother know that she was right all along! But...heh, that meat is kinda good, and she can't help but take another bite!
Sanuye chuckles softly and nods a moment before chewing on another bite of rabbit and like before sets it upon the leaf for the pup to eat! "Rabbit isn't too bad, maybe we can find a deer this winter so you three can taste that." Coyote's don't often get deer after all! Especially with a small family group such as this.
Hmm. Where did that meat go? She certainly didn't eat it all already, right? Especially since it was supposed to be super gross! But, lo and behold, it's all gone! And she's left licking at her muzzle. But, ah good old mom doesn't leave her wondering for long, and there's soon more meat for her to gobble! Her tail wiggles and her former thoughts of yuckiness are gone. Perhaps her sisters did have the right idea..not that she'll tell either of them this. Meat is devoured, belly is full, and that is a perfect combination for a sleepy pup. Yaaaaawn! Ah, she knows better than to crash out here. It's dangerous! So, after a body rub to her mom, the young yote heads into the den for a nice long nap.
Sanuye smiles and snuggles against the little Lily. A soft murr escaping her as she works on giving the pup a quick bath while she is actually still!
