Location: Cluster of Fir Trees
Characters:
Ayett, Mchawi, Raijin, Rodoe, [Barred] Owl Spirit
Log:
Rodoe makes his way cautiously through the firs, he mind foggy and his balance off a great deal. Ocasionally he glances down making sure if he were to fall, he wouldnt die from it.
A grumbling noise maks its way through the firs; leaning up against one of them from time and time again is Raijin. A wolf who's feeling very under the weather as he looks ahead of him. With his mind as cloudy and muddled as it is; he's getting lost quite easily now and he's trying to find his way back to his den. He's gone the wrong way.
Mchawi had been resting under the trunk of a tree, where there had been formed a small den under where he could fit in. He was doing what he had been doing most of the time since the illness struck him, resting. In spite of what his logic told him, a good rest did little against this illness he had, but even so, he didn't have much energy to do anything besides resting. Mchawi continues to lie in the small den, quite comfortably hidden there as he watches out from it.
Rodoe freezes as he thinks he hears something below, and low and behold a wolf, a slow wolf but one none the less! Wolves, wolves, wolves, And no doubt from that cursed Lazuli Pack! He slowly moves dow to lower branches, making small, safe jumps and moving down the trunks towards the one he sees.
Raijin stops at the next fir he leans against and he just slumps down to the ground; catching his breath. "Great..." grumbles the wolf as he looks around to look at his surroundings, "I'm...utterly lost." The presence of the other wolf, if it were noticible, and the squirrel aren't noticed.
Although Mchawi's attention is drawn to the sound of what appears to be someone speaking, he can't hear what's said or exactly how close they are, just that someone is around not too far away. The squirrel isn't noticed for now and Mchawi does absolutely nothing that might reveal his presence, lying still as he did before. While he can be seen easily enough if approached from the right angle, the cover otherwise provides a rather good hiding spot along with cover. In his current state, Mchawi isn't very interested in making his presence known except to very few.
A soft breeze picks up, whispering gently through the firs. Through the moving air cuts a pale figure, gliding on silent wings. The small owl passes along a shriek to the creatures below, just before perching herself upon one of the higher trees. Dark eyes inspect each of those below; studying, judging.
Rodoe ears perk as he hears the wolf speak, his mind might be muddled but his hearing is still just fine. So, he's lost huh? Interesting...The red Squirrel makes his way down the trunk of one of the trees nearby and puts on his friendly face, as much as it pains him,"Excuse me, I couldn't help but notice...um..." He shakes his head to clear his thoughts,"Notice you seem troubled, friend." Obviously close enough to be seen and heard by the wandering wolf. The owl goes unoticed as the red ones attention is down not up.
Raijin's eyes reluctantly move up to look at the small owl that perches on one of the higher branches and then the presence of the squirrel is brought to his attention. "Oh, was it that obvious?" Sarcasm, it's a side effect of sickness for sure. He glances back at the small owl; quite a small one at that before he just drops his head back down onto his paws.
The owl turns her head, plucking at a feather. Whatever it is she's here for, the bird is taking her sweet time to go about it. After several minutes, she looks again to the small gathering. "Troubled?" She echoes the squirrel, adjusting and re-adjusting her wings.
Rodoe notices the canine glancing up, And slowly turns to see what was catching his attention. He hears a voice from above and his eyes go big as he sees the owl, surely mere seconds from swooping down and taking him away before any of his glorious plans come to fruition. Almost entirely forgetting the wolf, Rodoe jumps and lands hard on the ground, stumbling clumsilly around another tree, shaking in fear.
Raijin looks back up at the owl as it speaks, and he arches a furred brow. "Great... a copycat owl. Just what I need," mutters the wolf; sighing a bit afterwards. The squirrel leaving his personal space is a rather nice thing; little rodents aren't that nice to keep around. Tend to get annoying. He looks back up at the owl and decides to try and get it to speak. "By chance, are you here to offer some assistance? Or watch us for your own amusment."
Rodoe peeks around the tree, staying half in and falf out of sight of the owl, glimbing steadily higher untill at a comfortable hight just below the owl. Noding at The wolves question he peers curiously upwards. If he was going to be eaten it would have been done. A dizzy spell suddenly hits Rodoe and he bairly manages to grab a branch before falling now in plane view of all. He catches his breath and looks up again. "Yea, its not nice to scare people like that yea know!"
Raijin's comment seems to go unheard for several seconds. The owl's attention seems to focus on the small, scurrying creature, as if driven by instincts that no longer matter. Finally, after making them wait long enough, she spreads her wings and descends soundlessly to the ground, her intended landing point right beside the dark wolf. "I will assist." She coos. "If you will listen."
Raijin has no energy to even move if he wanted to; he wasted it on the unintended trek to this area. "I'm not going anywhere, so I'm listening nevertheless," says Raijin with a tone of sarcasm to his voice still; his head still laying on his paws. Not enough energy to even lift his head; nor his ears.
Rodoe climbs down a bit, the constant movement stays his nerves if not his fatigue, in order to hear clearly. Not that he ever trusted an owl, but what could it hurt to listen? "Go on," he calls down, curious if nothing else.
The owl squints at Raijin. "You are a piteous one." She remarks, but with no emotion behind her words. "But go is what you must do." The diminutive avian instructs, and then shifts her head to the squirrel. "The desert is where you need to travel, should you wish to rid yourselves of this malady." She shifts on her talons, and then takes to the air, reaching again for her previous perch.
Raijin narrows his eyes at the owl at that first remark, and he sighs; know that it is true. His head sinks lower, if it can, at the mention of the desert and then he says, "What? Do I have to sweat it out? Or is there something special about this desert."
Rodoe squints at the owl disbeleavingly,"The Desert!? Where is that?? And whats there!? And who are you anyway??" Like an owl can just fly in and tell everyone what to do.
"What I share with you is all I know." She tells them, smoothing out her plumage patiently. "I cannot tell you what you will find there, or how you will get there. You must discover these things on your own, or not at all." The owl looks down on the squirrel in particular. "Who am I?" She then looks away, as if considering a distant thought. "Sister Owl."
Raijin blinks slightly as he pushes himself up off of the ground; leaning against the tree he was laying against. "Sister Owl, I thank you for your information," says the black wolf; polite even if there is an undertone of annoyance. He glances back at where the squirrel was at, "Well now... are you willing to do a favor for me?" The tone with which he asks the squirrel isn't out of anger, nor annoyance. It's as calm as he could get it.
Rodoe watches the owl, somewhat mistified, somewhat miffed,"Yea, thanks alot." It's hard to tell if the statement was sencere or sarcastic. The squirrel looks down abruptly at the wolf's question, as if he had just been highly insulted,"A favor? Why would I Ev-" But something stopped him, a nasty thought that he kept to himself,"Sure, but you'll owe me one dirtpaw."
Ayett is trying to rest. When it comes time to hunt again, she'll need all the strength she can muster. Admittedly, trying to hide from Mchawi the fact that she too has contracted the sickness has been the most taxing...but she refuses to come clean. She just needs to be brave. But then she hears something. At first it's just this annoying buzz in her ears, but as she wakens, she is suddenly aware of voices nearby. She looks over at the den she'd dug for Mchawi, to make sure that he is safe. Then, curious as ever and despite the disapproval of her aching body, she slinks closer to the noises...listening...watching...ducking slightly behind a tree as she spies a wolf, a squirrel and an owl.
The owl answers the two with only a tip of her head, not expecting or requiring sincere gratitude. She swivels on her perch, preparing to fly away. But then... she pauses, eyes studying the ground below, as if waiting for something--or someone.
Raijin arches a brow and says, "Your payment will be getting better from this ailgment. Which I'm sure you are fighting against." His tone still calm as he looks down at the squirrel, and he glances back at the owl. "Sister Owl, can you tell me which way the desert is from here?" Might as well know where he has to go.
Rodoe shakes his head, and almost feels sorry for the wolf...almost. He looked just so miserable, and his head must be more cloudy than rodoe's. "She said she doesn't know. But I have an Idea. I went to the lowlands east of the mountain once a few moons ago, it was pretty dry if anyplace ever was. I don't know if there is a desert there or not but you might find some clues there, Thats where I'm heading." Why had Rodoe just told this wolf that? Maybe...rodoe hadn't always hated them, and this one seemed...ok.
"Sister Owl?" Ayett is confused-as she should be, eavesdropping like she is. She doesn't even realize at that she's said the owl's name out loud until the words have already made their way into the open. Uh, oh. What's worse is that the owl seems to be looking for her! Cautiously, she pokes her head around the tree trunk and moves her eyes from side to side. "Um, hi. Sorry to interrupt."
"If I could, you would know." She answers Raijin, only her head pivoting around to gaze at the dark wolf. When Ayett speaks, the owl looks to her, showing no sign that she is surprised by the second wolf's appearance. "You are stricken as the others?" She asks softly, leaning down lower on the branch.
Raijin narrows his gaze at the owl, that didn't help much and he looks back at the squirrel with the same gaze of 'Shut. Up'. his mind is rather clouded, so some information goes through one ear and out the other. His attention moves back to the other wolf before it goes back to Rodoe. "Deserts are usually really really hot," states Raijin as if he was talking to a pup.
Rodoe humphs as he notices the other wolf and the condecending tone of the male,"Fine, suit yourself. As for me, I think I've overstayed my welcome." And two wolves is two too many, being surrounded by predators was no picnic. And so he climbs up higher into the trees and begins to depart, each step and jump carefully planned and deliberate, as his weakness had gotten no better in the past few days. "Thanks again Sister!" And the squirrel slowly departed.
Ayett's eyes widen at the owl's words. As she leans toward her, Ayett shrinks back. "How did you know?" Lowering a brow, the she-wolf studies the owl. Mchawi was always talking about spirits, but until now Ayett has always been skeptical. She glances at the wolf and the squirrel before looking up at Sister Owl again. "I'm sick, but my friend Mchawi is a lot worse. I've been trying to help him as much as I can." She frowns. "I don't know what else I can do, though."
"A guess, a feeling, a little observation." The owl answers, although it really isn't much of one. Her dark eyes, otherwise unfeeling, glint with a trace of compassion. "I'm very sorry about your friend. If you wish to help him, I can only offer you what I have offered the others." Her wings twitch, as if readying for flight. "You must seek out a place of dryness--a desert." The owl falls silent, thinking carefully. Then, she looks to each wolf. "There is one direction I might give." She speaks more quickly now, as if in a hurry. "Search beyond two rivers, where they cross." With these words, the avian flaps her wings and lifts from the branch, gliding into the air as noiselessly as she's come.
Raijin looks back at the other wolf; falling silent to let the her and the owl speak. He doesn't speak up once more until she says that last bit of information, "Wait!" But the owl is probably long gone at the moment, and he looks back at the other wolf. "If it wouldn't impose... do you mind if I rest here?" A weak smile from Rai to the other wolf as he leans back against the tree.
Ayett stands up on two legs and puts her forepaws against the tree trunk, watching the owl fly off. She stands there for a second, staring up into the sky, completely amazed, before lowering herself to the ground again. "A desert beyond to rivers," she repeats, making sure that the awe of meeting a spirit hasn't erased her memory. At the male's words, she looks down at him. "Yeah, of course." She thinks for a minute. "Are you going to look for this desert?"
Raijin sinks down to the ground and gives a small nod. "Tomorrow, if I can summon up enough strength. Or at least I can pass on the information to another creature." He grumbles to himself as he lays down on the ground, "Thanks for letting me rest here." He's so not going to hear the end of this from his pack... if he can find his way back.
"I can go," Ayett says, quickly and without thinking. "I mean...I don't have a pack or anything. My only commitment is to my sick friend, but if this quest results in his getting better, well...I'd be dumb not to do it." She feels compelled to lie down as well. "I'm not too sick," she tells herself.
Raijin hehs, "I'll try and come as well. Going alone wouldn't be the smartest thing to do at the moment." And he's been alone enough. Alas, his fatigue is getting more and more prominent and he drifts off to sleep without a word of warning or a sign either. Just... silence.
