----------------------------------
Askuwheteau has been gone far, far too long. the pack isn't even located in the same area any longer, but he could never forget the scents of some of his packmates and so by using his nose he has tracked them all down at last. The wolf slowly ambles towards the clearing that he believes the Ute now calls home, his head held low and his eyes scanning the underbrush constantly.
Althaea has been mingling about the outer parts of the clearing, occasionally looking up to its center keeping eye on those who slept. Quiet, or so it seems, she's been searching for something to eat. Unsuccessful, the young female heads back deciding to try again later. Reentering to the clearing with a light shake of her coat, she heads for Brutal's burly form only to come to a halt several steps in. Something was amiss.
Something is indeed amiss, on the other side of the clearing stood Asku, perhaps barely remembered by the shewolf. She had been only just a tiny puppy the last time he was anywhere near the pack. And he was very likely unfamiliar to her. And currently he was very pointedly looking over the sleeping members of the pack with a somewhat bland expression on his muzzle.
Althaea smells the air, an unfamiliar scent drawing her to the form of Askuwheteau through the trees. Stareing at him, she follows his gaze toward the others quietly before reverting back to him. His bland expression leaves little in telling who he may be but something does seem familiar about his face. Something a little like her fathers.. her uncle even. Yet, he remained mostly unknown. Stepping through the clearing, she barks. "Who are you?"
Askuwheteau seems to be slightly surprised at the questioning bark from a young shewolf, or at least that is how he looks as both eyebrows rise when he looks up to regard her. He doesn't answer for a moment, taking a few beats to look the wolfess over. Then with a slight nod as if in approval he huffs at her, "My name is Askuwheteau, and who are you young female?" He doesn't seem aggressive, instead looking almost bemused by the situation.
Brows are risen to the name.. head tilting a little to one side. That name, she's heard it before. Could it be? Side glancing to the sleepers, she rights herself. "My name is Althaea." If this was the Asku she has heard of he should recognize the name, right. Looking at him curiously she steps in closer.
Askuwheteau meets the name given him by the young female with a deep laugh filled with mirth, "Well now, you have grown since I last saw you. I suppose that is to be expected though. it has been more then a year since I last visited my birth pack. I suppose I have been gone far too long..." He almost seems to drift off into his memories, his eyes getting a far-away look in them as he looks over the wolves and she wolves before him, "So many little pups..."
Althaea did not expect the laugh from the wolf, infact she didn't exactly expect him to remember the name either. Tail sligthly at wag, she half smiles somewhat amused. She has indeed grown since last the wolf stood among the Ute. Him however, "You look.. um, older." she honestly didn't know him; glimces from a distance. Giving another look over those who sleep she head shakes. "None this year. Wachiwa's have since been the last." She doesn't remember if Asku was around when they were born or not.
Askuwheteau turns to look at the young female and his eyes dance with a surpressed laugh, "Yes...wolves will do that. I'm older. hopefully wiser, and definitely of a better temper then I once was. But I am surprised you can even remember what I looked like back then, you were little more then a little puff ball of fuzz, scooting about and letting go your first howls. My goodness but I feel ancient looking at all these younger wolves. And I'm really not that old yet. Ikuna has gotten so big, and Ahiga...they are huge! I remember the days when those little puppy faces were beaming up at me, eager for stories and more stories. And Little Tala, so cute back then. It's hard to think of my baby sister as a grown she wolf."
"It was more a guess on my part." She tells him with a bit of a smile, this being the first true time she's seem him. "I just figured..." Her words grow quiet listening to the wolf speak of himself as ancient. Asku was no older than her father, and he was still quite young. A bit of a smirk crossing her lips when hearing of how big her aunt, uncle, Ahiga included, have gotten. They may of gotten big, but their still pups; well use to be anyway. "Much has happened since you've been gone. Ikuna's alpha now. Tala and Ahiga, mates. They had.. but.." she sighs. No one needs to hear about that.
Askuwheteau turns to listen, and when the sad news comes Asku can guess, even though his niece does not finish her sentence he bows his head, "I see...I still remember them when they were bouncing about, barking and nipping and nuzzling the adults. It's hard to believe they have had to suffer that sort of heart break. I should have been here for them...for everyone in the pack. It's unforgivable that I should have been out wandering the wilds when my family was suffering so."
Althaea head shakes. "Dont blame yourself. Sure we've come across hard times but we survived. Its made us stronger." Even now the pack still have his troubles but what one doesn't. Moving in closer, she stops a few lengths from her uncle. "With your return we can only grow stronger." This she tells him with confidence. "Gives you the chance to make up for lost times. We could all use a familiar face."
Askuwheteau looks at his young niece and then gradually smiles, "Well one thing I need not worry about. It seems our younger generation has good heads on their shoulders. When I was your age Skalha and I were always bickering and fighting. We once didn't speak to one another for a full year. Did your father ever tell you about that?'
Hopefully he doesn't mean all of her generation; a certain wolf's name coming to mind when she regards his words. Head shaking, Althaea doesn't recall ever hearing her father speak much of anything to her, or her brother for that matter. "Not really. My father wasn't around much."
Askuwheteau laughs softly and leans in close after looking around as if it were a secret, "Well when Skahla and I were much younger, we were both very hard headed. I acted much older then I was, and he was determined he was never goingt to grow up and kept doing odd things like attacking his own reflection. One day I began to get rather full of myself and started making fun of him for behaving in what I thought was a foolish way. So to make a point I tricked him and threw him into a pond near the old den. Not a smart thing for a younger brother to do to an older pup. He came up out of the water snarling about how he was gonna kill me. I just smirked and started swaggering away. That was when he jumped on me and we started going at it fang and claw. In the end I won the fight. But he wouldn't speak to me afterward."
Althaea listens to her uncles tale and it would be a lie if she said she hadn't heard, or rather witnessed, a variation of that story before. "Isn't that how brothers are suppose to be to one another." She wonders with a shrug. She only had one brother and he was ill. The very thought of him brings her spirits down for a moment. Always did she envy him but now... now she is sorry. "You guys talk to each other now don't you?" Another mystery since she's never seen the two of them together before.
Askuwheteau nods and chuckles softly, "If brothers and sisters are not being horrible to each other they are not doing their jobs." He teased lightly, until he saw the way her spirits fell and he stepped closer to her, trying to offer his niece a little comfort, albeit it was a big early in the game to start playing doting uncle. But he tried, "Yes, we made up and actually grew closer for it, families fight, but it's important to remember that while we might get mad at one another, may even snarl and bite at one another, the love doesn't go away."
Althaea nods, even smiles some. She will never get the chance to show how much she loved her brother but least she can respect his memory by ensuring he isn't forgotten. "Your right." Plenty of disagreements have taken place over the year, many of which she feels responsible for, but in the end things aren't as bad as she would of imagined. Nosing her uncles shoulder a bit she takes a seat. "Its good having you back." Different or not, having family around has always been a good thing.
