It was a quiet morning, the sun just above the horizon providing enough light to give early risers time to adjust from the dark. A light breeze shook the canopy above startling birds into flight across the warm summer sky and drawing attention upwards as leaves lose their hold among the branches twirling toward the ground. Caught in the wind, a lone leaf drifts landing at the paws of the young adult, Althaea.
Blue eyes meet the leaf, a subtle smile lingering over a wolfs lips. Drawn away by the tussle of foliage not far to the right, ear prick to attention. Several times the sound could be heard, bringing Althaea to all four and ready to act. Not seconds later, the vegetation is torn open from the inside and out bursts a blur of brown- a hare. The chase was now on as the she-wolf jooks to the left cutting the hare off. The hare, quick to act, makes an adjacent turn back into the foliage where it is followed.
Exiting through the other side, the hare makes a run for it along the tree line, zig-zaging any obstacle that came its way with hopes of losing its attacker. By taking the path less traveled by few hunters, Althaea runs around and past the trees rather than through them following the hares footsteps. This catches the hare off guard causing its pace to slowing thinking it had lost her. Being quite the opposite, large eyes meet the wolf in terror. Was this the end?
*Snap*
A life comes to an end by the simple snap of a neck. Pleased with the catch Althaea claims her prize by picking it up. Time to return home. That was the plan anyway when something new draws her attention. The bushes rattle and first its mistaken for another hare. What luck. Waiting for it to burst out like before, one thing she didn't account for was the size of the tussle. Out from the overgrown bushes rose a bear with an odd look in his eyes. Frozen in her tracks by the sheer size of him, the young wolf is fascinated, yet frightened. How wasn't she didn't know he was there.. Her gaze quickly shifts to the hare and it all becomes clear. She was distracted.
Eyes first set upon the wolf, the bear gives pause to the hare that lay lifeless beside her. A free meal! Tearing through the bush, the bear stands head to head with Althaea, paying her no attention as he goes to grab the carcass. Scared out of her mind, the wolf motions back to flee, but as she does the bear takes offense thinking the wolf try to reclaim the hare. Lashing out, the bear roars hitting Althaea and tossing her into a tree. Deep claw marks across her side, Althaea is dazed yet finds it in her to stand. She had to flee or be the bears main course.
Eyes still set on the wolf, the bear has decided the wolf to be a threat, watching 'Thaea rises from the tree. Little did the bear know she was only trying to run, thus charges in attacking.
Escaping just barely, Althaea is struck again along her back; the pain excruciating but she wasn't about to let herself die here.
