As the leaves changed to red and gold, another change came to the forest. Ikuna, alpha of Ute for the past years, has stepped down from his role. There's no challenger to take his position, for Ute is a peaceful pack and continues to be so. He's named no alpha to follow him, though he's spoken to the wolves once under his charge. This is what he said:
"Ute is a family. It has always been a family, and now it has become several. Each of you is still Ute, but you don't need a leader to tell you that. Work together, love each other, and you'll carry the spirit of Ute with you wherever you go. Perhaps one day you'll need a leader; perhaps you'll become that leader. I have faith in every one of you, and I know that the spirit of our compassion and love will live on in you. I know that every time you feel the sun's warmth on your fur, you'll think of Tobba and of where you've come from... and I know you'll go great places, apart or together."
It's not much of an explanation, but it's what Ikuna gave. Not long afterwards, freed of the obligations he shouldered, he slipped out past Ute's borders and disappeared into the autumn chill. Perhaps he'll come back someday, but who knows? A lone wolf in winter doesn't have the best of chances. Still, he seemed happy with his decision.
(OOC: Ute's @group listing has been removed, though IC members remain. If you want to re-form it or start a new pack, take a look at 'news groups')
