Summary: When a Hare meets up with some Foxes, can they really become friends, or just talk about how one eats the other.
Scene:
Where are they, huh? He can't look away for a couple of minutes because once he turns, they're gone!? Dad comes pacing back and forth, they're probably hiding... They weren't where he left them, right? Tahtzin is out in the open, sniffing every bush, walking around every rock and tree he finds, hoping to find them giggling and hiding there. Ears flat behind his head all the time, sneaky mode on!
Coming from the Sparse Copse is a hare. She has been away for a while and is stopping every now and then to sniff the air and moving her ears to any sounds that might be a predator. Yoki is being very cautiouse because off a couple previouse incidents with a cat.
Where is he, exactly where he always is.. near the densite and in the grass doing what he does best, nothing. Laying there, batting at a blade of grass, Akseli looks rather bored, but who came blame him when theres no one ever around.
Tahtzin stops pacing... He smells something delicious, like food... But after a couple more sniffs, he realizes it's only his son. Wow, his son could make a good meal, or maybe Zin's just hungry right now. The fox tilts his head up, nose twitching as he continues sniffing, pacing towards the direction of his son's scent.
Yoki gets closer before she spots Tahtzin and suddenly temporarily freezes for a moment. Hoping that she was not noticed as the hare prepares herself to hop off to keep from getting eaten.
Akseli nose was broken, or rather occupied and so don't notice that his father has returned from where and actually close by. Batting at the grass, he stops when a bug comes crawling beside him, catching his attention. Dropping once paw and raising the other, he paws at the bug, getting up to all four and following after it as it crawls away.
Tahtzin narrows his brows as he sees his son... Chasing bugs? Way to go son, you'll be a great hunter one day! Not really... They should be chasing rabbits or something. Once he's close to his son so he can see him, he finds the tasty scent again, but now he notes there's a difference, coming from one side. Slowly, he turns his head at Yoki's general direction... Hmmm, something or someone is there, and smells delicious, "Com'ere boy!" The fox yells at his son as he runs to Akse's direction, ignoring the delicious scent for a moment.
Yoki swallows hard before turning around and quickly starts to hop off before the adult fox can say anything else without saying anything not liking the tone in Tahtzin's voice figuring she's been spotted.
Why is he always yell at.. he didn't do anything. Looking up from the bug, which crawls away as he does, and to his father, Akseli blinks in utter confusement. "I dun wanna!" he calls back remaining right where he's at.
Tahtzin slows his pacing as he sees his son. Ok, seems Akse is not in a playful mood. The fox frowns a bit, pacing slowly towards his son, "What's wrong?" The father says softly, head lowered enough to reach his son's height. Ears twitching at sounds... Coming from behind?
Yoki comes out in the open knowing at one point or another. She knows she's going to have too spotting Tahtzin and this time she seems to spot Akseli for the first time and freezes in fear and starts to shiver a little.
Akseli watches as his father finally reaches him. Head shaking he says, "Nothing." Unless you count being utterly bored... Looking up at Taht he sits before noticing the fallen ears wondering whats up.
Tahtzin steps even closer to his son, almost having his pup between his forelegs as he noses him gently, "You're not mad, are you?" Just concerned... He was expecting his son to run at his father and play or something.
Yoki stifles a small yawn and sighs with relief when the two foxes do not seem to notice her she takes a few more nervouse steps making some noises with each step.
Mad.. no, that that he was aware of; he just didn't see or hear his father. Was that really a bad thing. "Mad about what?" he asks him, flicking his tail and giving a light nose back. Akseli wasn't always the quickest to react to something, so the nosiy steps of the hare in the distance aren't reacted to until its to late to even matters.
Tahtzin shakes his head. No reason, there's no excuse or anything that would make her son mad. Probably mom, but that's different. The fox chuckles, licking his son's cheek before lifting his head, "Nothing... Don't worry about it. I'm just tired." Now that he knows there's no problem, he looks around, hoping to find the delicious meal.
Yoki finally comes out so that more off her is visible not liking the idea of being a meal. Out of all the foxes to be around the hare would rather see Cocle at least that is one fox she's familliar with keeping her attention on Tahtzin and Akseli at all times to be safe.
Akseli nods to his father and does just that. Closing his eyes to the lick, he looks like he hates it, but doesn't say or do anything to prevent it. Following Taht's gaze around the area, Aks begins to wonder somethieng. "Dad... you seen Cocle?" Its been a while since he's seen his brother and missing his playmate.
Tahtzin knows they hate being groomed cleand and whatnot, but... Mom always had them all shinny and good-looking, so he has to do the same. Besides, when he stops doing that, he's sure they'll think dad's upset or angry, so he keeps doing it, and will as long as he's alive. The fox fixes his eyes on the hare, head tilting to a side for a moment. Brave hare, standing there and facing them. And he's about to take a run after the meal, but his ears twitch at his son, "Huh?" Hey, where IS Cocle! "Haven'seen 'im, no... He be probably after 'dat friend o'yers, no?" His adoptive daugther who appeared out of nowhere one day.
Yoki moves her ears a little, "Cocle?" The hare asks mostly to herself. Remembering him and like the other two she's not seen him in a while either.
Akseli tilts his head to his father. Cocle go after Johari, he never would of thought of that seeing as she's usually with him. Giving a shrug he assumes that perhaps he's doing just that and leaves it at that. Looking out now, Aks finally notices the Hare in the distance and blinks; he's never really seen one alive, it was kind of odd.
That's odd indeed... His sons are a pair of losers! They've never seen a live hare? What, they don't even try to hunt or something? Oh well, what Zin doesn't know doesn't affect Zin! The fox tilts his head to a side, narrowing his eyes, fixed on the hare. Did that thing just said his son's name? "Hey, you! Com'ere!" Oh yeah, food walking towards the prey, smart move.
Yoki blinks her eyes a little nervously, "I-I wo-would but I do not think th-that wi-will be a good idea you might eat me."
Akseli has never seen a live hare because in all reality a hare is larger than a young fact and he'd rather not risk an injury. Besides he likes the small stuff, easier to get, but there was that time he was bite by a rat... that really hurt. Turning an ear to his father, Aks blinks as he calls over the Hare. Watching
Yoki he wonders if she would really come over even though the stakes were against her.
Cocle is most definitely not with Johari. He doesn't spend much time with Johari /or/ Akseli, these days. Rather, he was off doing what his dad thinks they never do. He was hunting. As he returns with his meager caatch of a medium-sized rat, he hears voices up ahead, and he picks up the pace slightly to get closer to them.
Tahtzin shakes his head... For Zin, if the Hare does know Cocle, then he won't eat it, rather just ask a million questions like how's it like being a hopping furball... But other than that? He won't kill the hare, "Com'ere or I WILL eat'ya." He says softly, chuckling as he paces to the hare's direction, not aware of Cocle's scent, "Cocle, my son... Ye know him?"
Yoki slowly and nervously heads over towards Tahtzin while he is pacing over towards her, "Yes, I do know Cocle. I have not seen him in a while myself though."
There he goes again, walking off to said creatures with tons of questions. Akse wonders if he does that to everyone he comes across. Looking away as dad and hare commune, he looks to the ground where he hoped the bug still resided, though knew it was unlikely. Though as he does he catches the sound of one approach and looks up. Sure Aks may not be quick to react, but his ears do work. Finding it to be his brother, the young fox bounds forward.
As Cocle draws closer, the two voices he can hear become familiar, but he can't really place the second, smaller voice. It has been a /long/ time since he has seen Yoki. His attention is taken once the three come into sight by Akseli rushing forward, though, which is when he drops his catch to prepare to tussle with his brother, crouching some.
Tahtzin completely forgets about his sons for a moment. Curious, a hare? His son being a hare's friend? Well, that's. . . He'll have to talk with Cocle about it. It's a shame the hare hasn't seen his son either. The fox nods slowly, "Well, we're looking for him. If you see him, tell him his family is looking for him." If only he'd knew his sons are actually less than half away from him.
Yoki offers a slight nod still appearing to be nervouse and scared not realizing that Cocle is closer than she realizes as her attention is fixed on Tahtzin, "Alright, I will let him know."
And again, each time he and his brother met there was some kind of contact. Meeting up woth Cocle, Akseli does his best to prepare for the tussle that would soon happen between them, but jumping up in a pouncing attempt.
Cocle crouches further, attempting to wait until his brother is right on top of him before he stands up, with a mind toward knocking the other young fox off-balance. He doesn't much care that his father and someone else he should know are nearby. His brother and playing take priority, as always. He does growl playfully, though, gving away his position to anyone nearby, which includes his father and Yoki.
Tahtzin is about to say something else to the fox, but hears the growling from his son, which makes him turn to see Akse and Cocle there. Wow! There they are! The fox quickly turns to face the hare, grinning, "Woah! Ye'r fast!" He's surprised the hare found Cocle so darn fast.
Yoki quickly turns her head to face the two younger foxes and can not help but giggle a little, "Hello." She says in greeting to the new arrival.
Akseli didn't expect his brother to stand up and winds up falling in a most uncomfortable position. "Ohp." he lets out, before growling back and batting since he messed up the first time.
Cocle is quick to leap towards Akseli and nip at an ear. Shortly thereafter, though, the greeting grabs his attention. Huh? Someone's talking to him? Can't whoever it is see that he's busy right now? He looks up, away from Akseli, to try to spot who it is, and it doesn't take long for his eyes to settle on the hare.
Tahtzin turns back to face his sons, shaking his head. Yup, we all know Cocle will be the good hunter when they grow up. That leaves Akse as the smart, charming, caring and hadnsome son every mother wants, no? The fox lets out a soft chuckle, still far from his sons and closer to the hare, "Oh, kids... I really wondah if they evah get tired."
Yoki turns to face Tahtzin, "I have no idea." Then turns back to face the new arrival, "How have you been doing Cocle?"
Smart, charming, caring.. handsome.. Akseli would agree with some of those, but on occasion its a wonder how he's mad it this far. Not letting Cocle get to caught up on what may be calling him, he yips and goes after one of his brothers ears in revenge of his own.
Cocle is still looking at Yoki when Akseli nips at his ear, and he lets ot a loud yip and tries to pull away, batting at Akseli as he does. "Get off, Aks." He's trying to remember why this hare is familiar. It takes him a moment, but he does get it, eventually. Oh yeah. "Hey, Yoki." After that, he looks between Yoki and his father, still confused, even though he remembers who Yoki is.
Tahtzin is confused too... Hares and foxes being friends? Oh snap... And he wanted to eat the hare badly... He's actually starving, those moments when you need to have a very strong willpower not to simply leap and attack dinner. The fox remains silent, just pacing towards his sons.
Yoki blinks her eyes a little, "I am sorry about disturbing you Cocle. I have not seen you in a while. Do you want me to leave you all alone?" She asks meaning it mostly for Tahtzin.
Akseli frowns.. he doesn't want to get off. Letting his brother go, he rolls off; so much for being a priority. Picking his ears up to the voices around him, he looks over towards the hare and dad.. whats going on.
"No. It's okay, I guess." Cocle is only confused because Yoki was adamant that they couldn't be friends, but now she's here, talking to his family? That doesn't make much sense. Why can they be her friends, but not him? Of course, it also seems par for the course. Cocle has gotten past expecting everything to be fair, because it's not. He just doesn't understand how she could be less concerned about them eating her than she was about him eating her.
Tahtzin reaches his sons, sitting close to them and want it or not, he reaches a paw to drag Cocle closer, licking all over his face, nipping a bit to groom his son. There's no escape from dad!
Yoki stops for a moment and slowly and cautiously makes her way over towards him but not too close affraid that he might might try to eat her. She does not really seem to have anything against being Cocle's friend any more but a part off her is still affraid he might eat her when he gets older. "Is something wrong?" She asks seeming to notice his reacation towards what is going on.
Akseli was still blank in the face as she just watchings the things going on around him. He is silent as he lays there looking at everyone. Why is it that when your confused you don't know anything... or why is it that when someone come around she just forgotten. Life was so strange.
Cocle yips and struggles as his father started gromming him. Hey! He closes his eyes and lowers his head, trying to discourage his father's efforts. "Daaaad!" He can't really answer Yoki's question, yet, because he's rather preoccupied with his father insisting on trying to clean him.
Tahtzin stops after he's sure his brother doesn't look so messy, nosing his son's forehead lightly before pulling away and batting at his nose, the fox chuckles, "Oh com'on! Ya wanna look decent for that girlfrund o'yers or wha?"
Yoki blinks her eyes a little fixing her attention on Tahtzin, "Cocle has a girlfriend?" That is news to her. Then turns back to face Cocle and Akseli.
It was news to him as well. When did this happen... or was dad mistakening Cocle for him again. Akseli just blinks his eyes at Taht, "Cocle doesn't have a girlfriend, dad.." he turns to his brother, "Do you?"
"Yeah. I don't /have/ a girlfriend." Bleh. Girlfriends make you freak out about things like flowers and, apparently, make it so that you have to spend FOREVER grooming yourself or letting someone else do the same. No, thank you. "B'sides, look what I brought!" Cocle paws at the rat. That ought to buy him a pass from being groomed today, right?
Tahtzin will probably groom his son for catching a rat instead of letting him roam free... And he actually does, nuzzling his brother a bit more and well, licking a bit, grooming! "It's all yours." Ok, she messed up and Cocle doesn't have a girlfriend, sue him for making a mistake, "Good catch." He says softly, very, actually not wanting Akse to hear him.
Yoki tenses up when she sees the rat which causes the hare to quickly freeze where she is in fear and the first thing that comes to her mind is to hop off quickly. But for some reason or another her feet will not move.
Akseli doesn't need to hear another thing. He knows he's not good at hunting, he doesn't need to be told that, he's seen it for himself. Just you wait though, one day Aks is going to be a befound hunter; after he's been scared and missing a few limbs. Looking over to the rat Cocle brought, he just lays there not really impressed; he could do that if he wanted... ha yeah right.
Cocle lets out a whine as his father insists on grooming him further. When Tahtzin finally stops, again, Cocle insists on putting some distance between himself and his father, which is when he spots Yoki's expression. With a deep breath, he turns from her to look back at his family. "S'okay. I ate already. One of you can have it."
Tahtzin doesn't think that would be a good idea. He lets his son go, grunting at him though. He's about to say something about how good they look when groomed, but he remains silent, instead he turns to the hare, ears flat, "It's... I'm sure my son found't when it was already ded." Oh right... Then how can you explain the horified face on the rat's face.
Yoki turns to face Tahtzin, "You might be right." She says playing along. "You can eat it." Then heads towards Cocle and stands beside him keeping her back turned against the others.
To take the rat and eat it, even though is brother said it was alright was like saying he wouldn't good enough to get one himself. Course Akseli would never admit that, but he knew if he wet out there it'd take him twice as long. Looking at the rat, he contiplates on whether he should or not; the expression on her face quite obvious.
Cocle isn't about to lie about how he got the rat. Yoki certainly wasn't concerned about lying in order to spare feelings. He doesn't go out of his way to correct his father, though. As Yoki comes to stand by him, he lies down, curled up slightly.
Tahtzin noses the meal a bit towards Akse's direction, smilling at his son, "Go on..." The fox says softly as he sits, keeping his eyes on Akse and wondering if he'll actually take it or not.
Yoki sits down beside Cocle, "Are you alright?" She asks worriedly.
Take it or not to take it... that is the question. Akse stares at it even when its nudged his way. It was like they all wanted him to, when surely they wanted it more. Looking up to dad he blinks before turning back to the rat; waiting a long moment before giving up and eatting it.
"I'm fine." Okay. Maybe that was a /little/ cold. Cocle takes another deep breath, which culminates in a yawn, after which he says, "I'm just tired." And he sees no trouble with sleeping here. It is, at least, spring again, so he doesn't need the warmth of the den. The safety of the den may be another story.
Tahtzin looks at his other son when the hare asks the question. Cocle seems ok, tired... The fox is clueless, still wondering why Cocle has a hare friend. He won't ask, setting down on his belly, glancing around for the moment, thoughtful.
Yoki lets out a soft sigh then whispers to Cocle, "I am sorry if I hurt you or made you angry at me." Meaning it sincerely. "Did you still want to be my friend?" The hare adds to the whisper.
Food felt good to eat, even though it wasn't his. When your hungry you eat, and when your not you eat anyway cause you don't know what you might. Leaving the rat there half eaten, Akseli backs away, falling into a slight dip in the ground. At the bottom it looks up with a half embarrassed look on his face, but doesn't say or do anything, he just remains there flat and sprawled out recklessly.
Cocle rests his head on his paws and closes his eyes. He does respond, quietly, but he doesn't look at Yoki. "It doesn't matter what I /want/." Yoki is the one who taught him that, after all. It's a hard lesson to come to terms with for any young animal, but he has accepted it. Slowly, with tiny steps.
Tahtzin looks Cocle and follows his movements. Letting a yawn escape his muzzle before settling down on his belly, glacing at Akse's direction, his kinda bloodied muzzle, "Oh greaat, do ah' need'ta groom ya again?"
Yoki frowns a little feeling bad, "Please be honest with me Cocle. What do you want?" She whispers to Cocle. The hare has made mistakes and done things that she has come to regret.
Akseli head shakes to his fathers question. He wants to keep the messy face as a reminded that he did eat - he sometimes forgets.
"I just wanna go to sleep, okay? Maybe we can talk later." Cocle's tone is less cold, now, and the answer /is/ honest. It's just really shallow, because he doesn't want to think about this right now/.
Tahtzin's ear perk up, listening to Cocle and the hare. But he won't ask about it, at least not yet. Still glancing at Akse as she smiles, "Just cuz I'm tired..." But he'll get him soon enough!
Yoki lets out a soft sigh, "Alright." comes her reply. Letting out a soft yawn off her own. "I really do hope we can talk later." The hare adds. Before she starts to get up to stretch out a little.
Akseli grins up at dad. Ha, he gets to be dirty.. but for how long. Looking out across the way, he stops on Cocle and Yoki but doesn't say anything, he just watches.
Tahtzin looks at Cocle simply stay there and probably dose, casting another glance at his awake son, moving a paw to give Akse some space next to him, "Com'ere, ah' promise I won't groom yas. Just come to pop."
Yoki watches Cocle as he falls asleep, "Good night." She says letting out another yawn trying to fight back not wanting to fall asleep yet.
It was hard to belive that his father would invite him over and not groom him; it was like his plan to snag him and then do his worse. Or maybe, Akseli was just thinking to much into it. Getting up anyways, he walks over to dad and lays back down.
Tahtzin drags his soon closer, wrapping his forepaw on top of him as he leans his his muzzle to nuzzle his son, not grooming like he promised, "Tired kiddo?" The fox glances at the hare, curious. And wanting to eat it to be honest.
Yoki lets out a sigh before she turns around and seems to be about ready to head off but turns to face Tahtzin, "Is there anything you would like to ask me?" She asks knowing that he might be confused as to what was going on while trying to hide her thoughts.
Tired - he was a kid, kids are never tired. But just as he thinks that a yawn comes from his muzzle. Snuggling up against his dad, she nuzzles, curling up.
Tahtzin nuzzles back his son. Can't wait for him to fall asleep to he can groom him like he should. The fox nips softly at his son's forehead, "Get some rest. It's late." But his gaze is again drawn towards the hare, nodding, "Did mah son do anything to hurt'ye?" Just curious.
Yoki lets out a soft sigh, "No he did not do anything to hurt me." She says honestly. "I just wanted to talk to him about something. Apparently he did not want to speak with me saying he was tired. That is understandable. I hope, I can speak to him soon."
Akseli can't sleep, he mustn't. Eyes starting to droop, he fights the urges to sleep. Must... stay... awake. Can't be cleaned... stay.. awa.... ZzZz.
Tahtzin waits a bit before answering the hare. Looking at his son for a moment and whispering, "Sleepyhe'd." But his gaze turns back to the hare, smiling, "I won't ask what's 'dis something ye want to talk with'm. Just don' eat him, k?"
Yoki can not help but force a slight giggle, "I think it will be hard for me to eat Cocle." Then turns to face Akseli, "Goodnight." She then looks down at the ground.
Tahtzin nods slowly... He still wants to know. The fox stands up very slowly, licking his son's forehead for a moment before pacing behind the hare, "Wait..." He calls out, keeping a safe distance, "What ye want to talk with'im?" Curiosity killed cat.
Yoki turns to face Tahtzin, "It is a long story." She admits, "I wanted to talk to him about some thing I've said to him." Then blinks her eyes, "I thought you were not going to ask?" She asks softly.
Tahtzin shakes his head, a bit concerned now, also just a bit mad, perhaps, "What did ye tell my son?" He wasn't going to ask, but suddenly everything's just mysterious.
Yoki turns to face Tahtzin, "When I first met Cocle. I was affraid he was going to eat me, and I was trying to keep away from him. I found out that he only wanted to be my friend. I did not think that would work out. So I tried to tell him. His kind eats my kind, and that I do not think that we can be friends. I do like Cocle I really do and I'm affraid that my telling him that might have hurt him. Which was not my intention, and that is why I wanted to talk with him about. To let him know. I am sorry. I have regretted it."
Tahtzin sighs, looking away from the hare for a moment. That was it? And he was thinking it was something else, different, even wrong... But no, that's just, weird. The foz turns back to the hare, smiling, "Mebbe I'm no da one to say 'dis." He begins, "But... Friendship can be easily broken in cases lak'dis. We... Eat yer kind, not cause he hate ye, but cause we need to eat. Woud'nt be safe for ye. But up to ye."
Yoki looks over towards Tahtzin, "I know and accept it. I also understand, that is why I tried to tell Cocle that his kind eat mine so he will undertand. But I am affraid that my telling him hurt him. That was not my intention. I do not blame you for eating my species because we all need to live. I just do not like to see any one's feelings get hurt."
Tahtzin doesn't know wha to say to that. He kills for his sons most likely... The fox sighs, looking away, "Well... Ye can still see my sons, yer welcome. But be careful." And he means it, you never know when instincts kick in.
Yoki nods a little, "I am still scared though. Even now, I keep expecting Cocle to try and eat me. If you ever get hungry and try to eat me. I will understand. No hard feelings. It is just hard being a prey animal. I did not really know what to say or do when Cocle wanted to be my friend. I was actually surprised and caught off guard."
Tahtzin can't help but chuckle... Aww, hares are so honest sometimes. Specially when they go all 'Don't eat me! I have a family!!!' Wonderful isn't it? The fox turns around, pacing abck to his son's direction, "Just be careful, k? Look for'im if ye want to talk, dat's mah advice."
Yoki nods a little, "Alright." She says honestly and at the moment she does not have a family. Then blinks her eyes, "What was funny?"
Tahtzin shrugs... He won't just say what he had in mind, right? "Hares..." He mutters before reaching out to hold Cocle's nape and drag him closer to his other son, after that, he flops between them, looking at the hare, "Never thought one wan'd to be ... friendly among foxes.
Yoki lets out a soft yawn and she did not think, she would feel the same to be honest. But she has seen stranger things some that she still finds hard to believe.

Akseli nose was broken, or rather occupied and so don't notice that his father has returned from where and actually close by. Batting at the grass, he stops when a bug comes crawling beside him, catching his attention.
