Dense Undergrowth (Lazuli)

Two days after the fight with Jolon, Lykaios and Halidari talk over whats right and wrong when it comes to dealing with times of conflict.
Scene
Home was a place Halidari looked forward to for days, having returned there just a few times before just recently before the quarrel with that Dog. She limbed still from the fight, but it didn't bother her as much anymore. What really concerned her was Lykaios, however; why he couldn't keep himself from engaging in such conflict. Even though Jolon lost, such a victory wouldn't of been possible if it wasn't for her, so she's just as much to blame. She hadn't looked at him the whole trip back; she wasn't upset just slighly disappointed. Keeping to the less rugged of spots, Hali heads right into the densite clearing past the thorny undergrowth; taking a seat just short of where the pack rests.
Lykaios's right foreleg and shoulder are terribly stiff, and it's something of a chore just to keep pace with Halidari, no matter how relaxed her gait is. He hasn't tried to force conversation. He knows how much of a pacifist Hali is, and he does feel some guilt that she got injured. That's not his fault, though. He was glad that she was there to back him up, but he never asked her to. Besides, no matter what she may think, it wasn't his fight. It was Jolon's. Luckily for Lyk, no one really witnessed /his/ fight.
Why.. she asked herself that many times as well. Why did she allow herself to become injured?; why couldn't she of just stayed back and let him deal with it himself? Because down inside she knew if she hadn't, the chance of seeing Lyk again would likely be low. Risk a broken heart.. no - the things one will do to retain the one they love. Her gaze to the ground, Hali looks up only once to see him and unsure why, she smiles. It slowly fading she says, "Lyk..." Her gaze drifting from him.. "About the other day. Why... why did you.." Much like how she didn't like seeing it participating in it.. she wasn't to keen on talking about it either but had to know.
Lykaios keeps his gaze ahead of them. He's tired and sore, and sick of defending himself. Physically and verbally. He keeps his tone in check as he answers her, though. "It's not like he gave me much of a choice, Hali." What, he should have just run away? To where? Even if he had been inclined to run away, the chance that the dog would have let him just run away was slim, and he definitely wasn't going to lead the hostile canine into Lazuli territory, where one of the young members of the pack could have been injured.
Halidari's eyes close to his response, ears dropping to the sides. "There's always a choice." She speaks calmer than him, but low and nearly none verbal. To run was always a choice, but never in a fight. "You gave him exactly what he wanted." She speaks up this time. "A fight to prove that your no better than he is." It seemed that Lyk was sometimes much like Jolon, a careless canine who would fight a senseless fight if just to prove a point. Reopening her eyes, her look to the ground and his form in the corner, she quietly says after a moment of silence: "I don't want to lose..you Lyk."
Lykaios would like to respond with some quip about attributing Jolon with more intelligence than he has. In fact, he has opened his mouth to do just that. Then she speaks again, though, and he stops walking suddenly. "Hey... You're not going to lose me... And certainly not to some dog with an attitude." He looks at her as he speaks, and his voice is firm. He may have been on the ground for a moment, but he's sure he would have gotten his footing again, even if Hali hadn't been there. It just would have taken longer, and he might have gotten some more injuries. He can't leave it at that, though. Looking away, he adds, "I'm not like Seven, Hali." It's not like he went searching for some bigger, more agile predator without a bit of back up. It's also the first time he has spoken Seven's name since the other wolf returned. There is jealousy, resentment, and anger in Lykaios, but he tries to keep it hidden.
A frown can be seen her Hali's face as she listens to him. Even though he spoke in reassurance that she wasn't going to lose him, she couldn't find it in her to have it fade. When he says next, however, brings her to look at him. Lyk never spoke of Seven, and it brought surprise that he would now. "I know your not." She tells him. "And for that I am grateful." No one was like Seven.. no one could be that reckless and foolish at the same time; yet care for someone so much as to sacrifice themself.
Lykaios sits where he is. They are close enough to the den, and certainly far enough into Lazuli territory that they can afford to truly relax. "Look, Hali... I'm not trying to defend some things I've done... But you can't always just back down." It's just hard for Lyk to tell, sometimes, when he /should/ back down. The opposite seems to be true for Halidari. Between the both of them, though... They ought to be able to figure it out.
Halidari shakes her head. "Don't you think I know that." She wasn't just some wolf who ran from every little thing that posed a threat or that she thought she couldn't take. "I'm not saying that everyone should back down and run when posed with a threat, I just don't think one should run face into one either." If there was a way to avoid conflict, thats route she'll take until theres no other choice but to run or fight.
"Is that what you think I did?" Well, that /is/ what he did, only with Eclipse. Not with Jolon. He took care to give the dogs a wide berth, even before he left the grasslands. What happened with Eclipse was just the unfortunate, and embarrassing, result of Lykaios overreacting because of Jolon, and the way that dog has it in for him.
Halidari head shakes once more. "I never said that." She never impied thats what anyone did. If thats what he thought, though, she wasn't about to object. "I'm not going to assume you did any thing for whatever reason. You're, your own wolf, Lyk." Hali might not like whatever one does sometimes, but lifes not always suppost to be how you want it, or for that matter fair.
Lykaios frowns at Halidari's response. He might be overeacting, sure, but if she's not assuming anything about why he and Jolon were fighting and she's not objecting to any of it, then why criticize his decision to fight Jolon, if it ever really was a decision, in the first place? Too worn out to keep up trying to sort this out, he says, "Look, I just want you to know that I always have your best interests in mind, okay?" His as well. He's not a selflesss wolf. But his interests don't necessarily clash with hers. After speaking, he lies down, slowly and stiffly.
Because it was wrong... Because of what /could/ of happen. Hali knew the difference between right and wrong, but that doesn't mean shes condoning anything. She wasn't perfect, not even by far. She was just looking after the well-being of the one she had planned to live her life with. About to look away from him, Hali stops herself as he does speak. Nodding to him, she then looks away only to stand when he lies down. Moving over to him, stoping at his side she says dropping down, "I don't mean to worry its just... who I am."
Lykaios tips his head against Hali's as she lies down beside him. He's not sure how to reply to that, so he doesn't. Everyone worries. He worries constantly, about a variety of things. It's just that not everyone is as vocal as Hali about them. It doesn't matter, though. He'll do what he can to show her than her concerns are unfounded. Tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day. Today, all he wants is to relax, now that they're safe.
Halidari just wants others to know how she feels.. is that to much to ask for. Her second smile, long withheld till now, holds the same carefree, unsure notion as the first. He's tiped head against hers; her returned action is a nuzzle before relaxing herself to a light sprawl.
