Rye walks along the river, exploring like he usually does. There has been a new scent around the area.. he knows the scent, it's burning wood. He remembers that smell from when he lived down in the plains. He wonders why he smells that smell though. He came up here the mountain to escape them and what happened down there. So now, with a new family to come, he wants to know why he's smelling wood burning.
Like Rye, there's another creature about who is not a stranger to the scent. And it only makes him crazy, angry, and extremely wary. *They* have come to the wilderness again, haven't they? Haven't they done enough damage? He continues along a path he has found, wishing only to return to his mate after being gone for a few hours. Doesn't he and his family have enough problems to deal with? The smell is just... unbearable to the fox.
One Who Is Feared. Human. Destructive, dangerous. Many would call it an evil presence of destruction and death. Many would call them "demons" in these parts. And here is one, very close by. An opportunist hunting human, hoping to find himself some skins and gold. Give himself status among the "demons."
Rye stops suddenly as he hears a stick break. No one would be that noisy exc.. he sniffs.. except a human.. and what do you know there one is. His hackles go up as he watches what the human is doing. Good thing it is summer and there are places that his light coloured fur can help him hide. What is the idiot is doing? he wonders as he looks around some to see if anyone else is about.
Braxton is about. And as he had walked along, he failed to even notice the presence of the human... yet. He's preoccupied with thoughts of exactly what could be threatening him or Rye. The fox continues on his way.
Bounding up the trail is another four legger, but this one goes right over to the human, panting and waggling his tail. He hopes that he is pleasing his master. He looks around and looks over towards where he thought he heard one sound, then flicks his head around to the other way, where the fox walks. He sniffs, wondering what is ovedr there, and maybe it's something that will make master proud.
The "demon" spots Braxton and smiles and halts before taking even another step. What has he here? A fox? Looks like one in his prime! What a sport! A good chase will make the "demon's" day for sure. Seeing his dog come over to him, the "demon" takes a knee and scratches his back and whistles and points straight at Braxton and yells something. Soon after, the "demon" stands and begins to ready his rifle. That will be a handsome pelt, that is for sure!
Rye blinks as one of those trators come up. yes, this is one of those white devils.. not the ones that have been here for a while, but the new ones with a loudstick. he turns and looks where he hears the noise just as the human does. He blinks.. it's, the fox.... Braxton.. that's his name. This won't turn out well if he doesn't do something. he looks to see how close that human is. He then waits till the dog lunges and then he leaps, intending to either grab the loudstick in his
Braxton almost jumps out of his skin at all the sudden activity. And that's when he sees all that is happening! There's a human... and it was about to... And Rye! When he realizes just what is happening, the fox goes wide-eyed in fear in a moment, looks around, and decides that continuing on his path woul dbe dangerous, and runs out toward the brush. Then he realizes. Rye is taking a considerable risk for him! "Rye, get out of there! That's a human!" he calls from a distance staying low, trying to stay out of sight. Not aware, though, that there is still a dog after him.
Rye looks up at the human and then where he points and commands him to go. YEAAH, action, it's one of those red creatures his master wants. He gives some barks and off he goes, running to go grab the fox. Though he hasn't heard the gun shoot yet, he knows his human will do that. Though he doesn't know what was just called out. He won't stray from the command, that would lead to a beating. he goes straight for his target, barking a few more times.
The "demon" snarls as the coyote jumps up and knock the rifle away! The "demon makes some angry yelling noises. Rather than call of the dog, however, the human tries fighting back, utilizing the elegant, artistic weapon: The butt of the rifle. The "demon" takes a few steps back, trying to get away enough to maybe take a shot at this coyote here.
Rye growls loudly as he keeps his movement up to get away from the butt of the rifle. he then knows enough to stay close to the human. It's dangerous, but if he runs away, he'll get shot. Instead, he starts biting at the ankles and legs, trying to get the Human distracted enough to get the fox away. "Now you run, I know what this is. Lose that dog somewhere." he yells back. he will figure a way out of this as soon as Braxton is away from here.
Dog? Braxton didn't see any dog! And then, of course, he sees the dog now! Traitor. Braxton feels his hackles rising. If he runs, how will he know *Rye* won't be killed? Braxton faces the dog and bares his teeth and growls. He stands a lot better chance against a dog than a human! And he can't let Rye get hurt on his behalf. "Take one more step, traitor, and I'll rip your damned throat out!" He's got a family to look after, and what about Rye? Does *he* have a family. Braxton needs to catch up with his old friend when this is over.
The dog slides to a stop when his victim doesn't run, they always run, then he chases him, isn't that the way it shoudl work. he growls back. "You will do fine." he says as he starts moving in, baring his teeth too. It appears that the domestic can talk, but not much, and it's a different accent than what might be around here. It doesn't matter if the fox has a family or not. it's what his master wants and it's what the master gets. Why doesn't he fire, but he can't look back at the moment.
The "demon" growls angrily and yells in an angry tone at the coyote, trying to hit the coyote while also trying to get at an optimal shooting range. IT's not working as well as he hoped. The animals in this neck of the woods are downright crazy! Guess the "demon" will have a fox *and* a coyote pelt, then!
Rye repeats silently, get the loudstick.. get the loudstick. he waits for the right moment when the human swings at the yote. He hopes that surprise is on his side, as he lunges up and grabs the butt in his jaw. he wants to use the momentum to rip the gun out of the humans hand. If that works the way he hopes it should, he'll be off and running in a second. it's either that or just keep attacking the human at close range, but it's hard with the fur they have over their skin. he just hopes that dog doesn't come back. This is his area now, not this humans.
Braxton is momentarily confused by the dog's accent... and the comment he made. "I said *go* before I kill you!" Maybe he *should* just run! What if this dog is stringer than he is. That could be likely. Braxton can't recall ever squaring off against a dog before. He crouches lower, growling. Why doesn't the dog attack? Does it think he's going to run?
The dog chuckles and slowly circles the fox. He doesn't have to attack his job is to keep track of the prey. he would rather not have those teeth aimed at him though. he doesn't want to damage the fur, that's what his master says, don't damage the fur. It's so much easier when they're running, he just forces them into a rock or something. he also just keeps the fox out for his master to shoot him. he does do a quick glance back to find out why the human hasn't fired. It's only a quick glance, but would be enough.
Sure enough, the "demon" loses his rifle to the coyote. Furiously, the human grabs a rock or two off the ground and throws them at the coyote, shaking his fist. More rocks thrown.
Rye runs and darts around trying to avoid the rocks.. he's off, he does call out though, "uuunnnn aakkon." hopefully the fox will understand that. he yips some as a rock does hit his back but he doesn't let that stop him. He's got to get away, he's got to hid this loudstick thing. He cant' see if Braxton got away or not. he should but he can't let the human get the gun back.
Braxton is about to attack the dog when he sees Rye run by with the loudstick. Considering now that the whole reason he was standing his ground was for Rye, this is what he does. He turns and runs in the same direction as Rye. Gotta get away, and *fast* in case that human has other means of killing.
The dog is about to jump after the fox, when he hears distress from the human. It makes him turn back towards the human, then back to the fox.. what to do.. what to do... He looks at the human, waiting for a new order. He then notices a coyote with the gun.. where'd he come from?
The "demon" angry, yells at the dog various obsenities and insults and points at the rapidly retreating fox and dog. HE may be without a weapon, but damned if he'll let *them* have it! These better be *nice* pelts he'll have or there will be hell to pay back at the camp.
Rye tries to go through a thicket, and dropping the gun in there so that the human can't get it, but hopefully witghout loosing much speed. "We have to lose that dog, Braxton. " He says as he starts lookign for a way to get rid of the canine chaser who is way behind at the moment. But will be coming with the way the human is spouting words.
Braxton runs frantically with Rye. He knows one way, but it might depend on the tenacity of the dog if it'll work. "Water! We need to find a stream or river we can cross!" He doubts this dog would be intelligent enough to figure that out, especially if the river or stream is deep!
The dog reacts suddenly at the words the human says. He takes off chasing the now two pelts that the master wants. He doesn't know what happened, but he knows he doesn't want to return without them. His tail flicks as he barks chasing after the two. he does run through the thicket, wincing some but knows that's nothing compaired with what the human will give him for returning without them.
The "demon" starts running in their direction, if only to search for his rifle. He is very much going to enjoy killing these animals.
It is now your pose.
Rye can run faster now that he doesn't have the gun. He just hopes the human isn't smart enough to find the gun. he nods and heads to the river which is very close. He looks, "hopefully that dog doesn't like cold water." he dives in the water and starts swimming hard, trying to get across but he's used to things like this.
Braxton agrees with this assessment. He's not shy about water, either. And it beats the alternative of hanging around. Oh, how Braxton absolutely *loathes* man, more than anyone, even his mate, could imagine. He jumps in the river and swims frantically for the other side.
Rye runs after the two, sliding to the stop at the water.. it's deeper than what he wants to do. he whines some, looking back at the human, then at the two swimming through.. he touches the water, looking down in it. It's one thing to go through a stream, but a full fledge river.
The "demon" proceeds more slowly, combing the path that the fleeing animals followed, looking for his rifle. And he's muteering angry, unflattering things about what he is going to do when he finally kills these animals, including fantasies of burning their fur-free corpses and dancing around it naked with booze in one hand and a rifle in the other.
Rye swims and gets out the otherside, taking only long enough to shake off, then start running through the brush again until he realizes they aren't being followed and stops, looking back, and staying still so as not to be a target. he whispers to Braxton. "Where did they come from, I thought I had left them behind in the plains.
Braxton also swims out of the water and walks over to Rye. "It seems you, too, have had a history with these... monsters." Braxton says. Then he looks over at Rye. "They've been in these mountains before... a long time ago. I would personally rather they never came back." So close he came to sharing his parents' fate! Halona... did you go back to them? Braxton shakes his head at the thought of his sister. "This is... unsettling. I hope my mate and pups are safe."
The dog jumps in, but then quickly flails about, not able to fight the currant as well, as he's not used to it, and is quickly climbing out the side he jumped in.. he shakes off and goes very slowly back to the master. He won't be happy.
It takes the "demon" a long time now, to find his rifle. And when he sees his dog coming back to him, empty-handed, words cannot describe his frustration. After barking an angry assortment of words at his dog, he looks over at the river. Too far. He turns and goes back on his way.
Rye nods, "Yes, I do have a history with these white skinned ones. When I lived down in the plains, we lived near a community of the older two-leggers. They respected the land, and even honored us. We didn't associate with them much, but there weren't problems. Then these came, with those loudsticks. They ended up killing my family and friends, that's when I came up here." he can say it with a fair steady voice. "I never wanted them to come here either." He watches some. "We're really going to have to warn others." he says as he flicks his tail around some. "What about you?"
"A long, long time ago, I was a pup..." Braxton says. "I was off playing... and *they* came. Before I even realized what was happening, my parents were killed by *them.*" Much acid in the word "them," showing a deep hatred for these creatures. "My sister was gone. Halona. That was her name. Nowhere to be found."
Rye nods. "So then you know as well as I do, what they can do. We need to warn others, we need to drive them from here, rather than have us be driven from here." He says as he flicks the tail some.
"I Must agree, for my family's sake." Braxton says. "But who do we warn?"
Rye smiles. "everyone, and anyone. We had a group a year or so ago finding that cure, all of those need to be told.
Braxton remembers that. "I was part of one of the big groups. I... I think I know a certain cougar we could talk to... she was part of the other group. I never learned her name, though." Braxton thinks about this a moment. "She, among others around, might know what we should do."
Rye says, "I have a few I can talk to. wolves, and others." he says as he looks around. "I think the human went away now. we need to move around and start spreading the word more.""
Braxton nods and looks around. "I'll get right on that. And I'm going to move my family somewhere safer. With Man here... its going to get dangerous." Braxton runs a little bit, then turns. "Thank you, Rye... for saving my life." Braxton turns back and runs in the direction of his home.
Rye chuckles, and realizes what people would say if they heard that a yote saved a fox. "We'll see each other again." he then watches him go off.
