Roki - Male Cougar
- Wooded Terrain -
It is midday. While their master and his water dog remain at the lake, a much different species ventures into the area, scouting for prey, which will make his job easier, once his master decides he has had enough of hunting waterfowl. The staghound's fur if black and grey, and his body is very slim, streamlined. The sighthound has no trouble seeing in the minimal light that gets through the trees. Behind him, travelling silently, is his hunting companion, a much stockier, lighter-furred mastiff. Though the two collared canines are not technically working, at least not with their master's blessing, and won't go too far away from the lake, this definitely beats just lying there and getting overheated, given the complete lack of shade.
Roki lies in the shade to stay out of the midday heat. The mountain lion had been scouting around the edge of his family's territory and had wandered off a bit farther than usual, but now it was time for a break. A twist of his alert rounded ears homes in on the sound of the approaching canines and he becomes of aware of a scent he has not yet smelled before. Well one knows what curiosity does to a cat... Roki has to investigate. Standing up, the fully grown mountain lion makes a formidable presence in these woods, and so confidence drives him forward to find two very strange looking wolves.
Not long after entering the wooded area, the sighthound spots a feline, too close for comfort. It is not the kind of prey he's looking for, and he gives a quick bark to his companion, who increases his pace to stand a couple steps ahead of the staghound. He can not see the cougar as easily, but he can see the outline, and he bares his teeth silently. The stocky dog would never be able to kill a cougar by himself, but he could do some damage, and he has no lack of self confidence. The only thing that holds him back is the knowledge that they're out here looking for food, not fur.
Roki flits his tail around next to his heels and climbs up onto a large rock to see over the foliage and just peers at the two intruders. One of them small and skinny, like a strange coyote.. the other larger and stockier than any wolf he had encountered before.. these are indeed couple of strange ones. At the growl his ears perk forward and then back, returning the gesture with a deep rumbling growl of warning of his own.
The stocky dog takes the position of spokesman for the two. His teeth remain bared, and his tone hints towards aggressiveness, even when facing an adversary who vastly overpowers him, but his words are not overly abrasive. "We have no fight with you, cat." Not unless Roki pushes it, that is, in which case the mastiff will do all he can to destroy the animal while the staghound goes to bring their master, and his gun, back. It has worked in the past, and while the mastiff has the scars, partially hidden by fur, that go along with those battles, he is still here.
Roki stops growling long enough to utter a quiet chuckle and stand up a bit straighter to show them his size. "That's smart of you. What is your business on my lands?" They aren't actually his, but as an ambassador to visitors... or rather a border guardian to his family they will have to be for now. Not that he wouldn't mind that..
The mastiff can't help but scoff at how Roki claims the land. He's not going to be backing down just because this animal is a large feline. He is still just a feline. "We are here on behalf of our master, who does not acknowledge prior claims to land." Especially not when those claims come from wildlife. A not so subtle warning. They may not be here hunting cougars, but if any of them get in the way, they are far from immune.
Roki glares at the impudent canine, even the wolves usually show more respect. "Well I will give you a fair warning though I doubt you both deserve it. If you or your master trespass into the lands behind me you will not come back out alive." The lion begins to tire of the rude strangers, as he is quick to and turns to hop off the rock. Had he not eaten just this morning he would have hunted and surprise attacked the larger one instead of making his presence so blatantly known to them visibly. But lack of hunger will not stop him from attacking should they decide to follow. His family and their cubs are in these lands, and if he alone cant stop them.. then mothers with cubs to protect are the most fiercest adversaries of all.
The mastiff laughs at the warning from the cougar. He doesn't follow, though. Rather, he turns to face his companion, giving the sighthound the clear to continue on their little scouting mission. He isn't worried about the warning from the cougar. He's sure his master can take care of any threat these cougars could present.
