Scent has existed since the beginning, but it's recently been updated to include a few new features, primarily the marking ability. A few folks have expressed confusion over what lands are what, so we're hoping to compromise between a lack/presence of group titles in room names by adding this feature. Scent/smell and various other similar commands work to access this program.
Leaders have been set with a tag that will allow them to use the 'mark' command to designate their lands as just that, so curious rogues and nomads can make sure they're not trespassing off neutral ground. [Please don't abuse this feature by marking rooms obviously outside of your territory or marking every room within an area. For example, the cougar tribe only has a small part of the mountain claimed to themselves, so it wouldn't be appropriate for one of the leaders to go around marking the whole mountain. Please try and only mark the most common rooms your pack RPs in, so that there will still be some neutral territory on the map. I'd rather not have to revoke this privilege from mark-happy leaders, but I will if forced to do so. Your cooperation is much appreciated!]
Scents are 'fresh' for a day, 'recent' for two more days, then 'old' up to a week, and 'nearly faded' for a second week. Marks last twice as long at each stage, for a total of four weeks. It also doesn't record characters set OOC.
Use this to add to your scenes: there's an unfamiliar male cougar scent in the territory, perhaps, or a couple of strange wolves who have been skulking around the edges of the packlands, or an enemy that needs to be tracked down ICly (not by cheating with 'find' ).
