HA! He is /not/ in the sleeping cubpile this morning! Having succesfully extracted himself from the tangle of legs and tails, Cael has moved off, as quietly as he can, a few /vast/ feet from mother and father. The boy sits thoughtfully, wide-eyed and surveying the sighs of the forest surrounding them, flaring his nose occasionally to take in the rich scent of earrth and other things he doesn't yet understand. His tail sways thoughtfully behind him, and after a moment's hesitation and a little yawn, he pushes himself to all fours intent on exploring! Mwahaha! But, what's this? A large beetle scuttling through, around, and over the long grass catches his attention, and Cael deems it necessary to investigate, "Raaa?" he questions, large paw poking at the bug's backend.
The beetle does not seem to pay any attention to the cub's attention, at least until it's poked, and then it only scurries away, intent on putting distance between itself and the offending feline. Meh. Leave me alone.
"'Ey!" the boy protests, not enjoying the fact that his new found discovery is getting away. Awkwardly, he manages to lunge forward and pounce heavily, though his paws land on either side of the big black bug that flutters its wings irritably at the boycub. Cael snorts his reply, lifting a heavy paw and swatting at the long grass in an attempt to show the bug who's boss, nyeh!
No. A much larger paw than Cael's suddenly swats at the grass as well, though careful not to touch the boy's. A much larger paw.. belonging to one who is going to show /Cael/ just who is the REAL boss around here!
The larger paw sends Cael a few steps back, eyeing the beetle as it tumbles deeper into the grass and is lost from his view. He's surprised, but he expects no less than big daddy Kein peering over him, but when the boy looks up he doesn't recognize the face before him. It's a different male all together, and the smell around him doesn't smell familial, either. Not knowing danger, Cael beams up at the stranger with that evil little grin and stumblingly bounds forward, slamming into the cougar's forelegs, as he would do with mom or dad, and gnaws formidably on the offending paw that stole his quarry! "Rraarrrgn! RA!"
It's amazing that neither of the parents, only a few feet away, haven't been awakened by the cub's noises. No doubt that it won't be long now before they do, so he'll have to act quickly. As the cub tries to latch its jaws onto his paw, the male leans swiftly down and grabs ahold of the cub's scruff, hoping that it will instinctively go limp and quiet; if one of the parents wakes up, it could turn rather ugly real fast.
He's obviously not paying attention to very much, as per usual, it seems, and so the jaws around his neck are not expected until they're already clamped down. Cael manages a surprised little squeak, but it wouldn't be enough to wake a mouse as his body sags instinctively. For all he knows, hanging between the male's jaws, he's being brought back to his mother's side for straying too far. His eyes, deeply washed with blue, seem to glaze over as he hangs in wait. Truly, he has no idea.
He has ahold of the boy. The parents are still asleep. Yes, this is going quiet well. The male slowly stands up to his full height once again, tail lashing a little as he gazes at the four other cubs nestled close to the two almost-adults. Even as he watched them earlier, he noted with some surprise their red markings; the only other feline with such distinctive red symbols was Moonseeker, and she spoke of a tribe to the south. But what really has surprised this male is the youth of these two parents. Surely they cannot be strong enough to raise cubs on their own? Surely they lack the necessary wisdom and strength? His last action before moving swiftly off to the north is to leave a brief scent mark which he's quite sure the parents will notice immediately when they awaken from their sleep. Revan was here.
