Pushing her way out of a torn slit in the screen door of the farmhouse, a calico cat emerges, a grey tabby kitten in her jaws. Hopping up to the relative safety of a garbage can, she deposits her kitten between her forepaws, glancing about the barnyard with a facade that appears to hold very little interest in those present - particularly the dogs.
Many of the animals have been wondering what's going on as of late, seeing how quiet its been on the farm an the fact no farmer has come to feed them. Caesar is making his way towards the farmhouse after going on patrol through the pasture. This isn't normal for the farm he knows that much an he is going to find out what is going on one way or another. The large dog's ears prick forward as he sees the cat. "Mischief." The voice booms out. "Have you seen the farmer in there anywhere?" While the dogs and cats have had it easy the horses and other livestock have had issues. Ooljee finally got the farm door broken down the night before which offered some relief at least, the mare is making her way out from the barn, the door bearly holding up as its just swinging on its hinges. Her ears prick as she hears Caesar and she glances around wondering who his talking to.
The calico smirks, her green eyes flashing in the early light. "Oh, he's in there, all right," she answers mysteriously, lifting a paw to nonchalantly begin grooming herself. "But I'm not out here just for making small talk with you mutts. I'm out here because it's not exactly a feline's paradise in there anymore. And not just because of the fact that the fireplace has smoldered down to nothing."
The mare is followed after a moment by Pollux, his large gray head held lazily in front of him while big hooves plod onto the ground outside. Ooljee is given a chasing snort. "Wher'r you goin'now?" He inquires, in his usual deep and curious voice. "An'y'coulda asked me t'open the door." It's almost a pout, the way he says it. He was pretty much sleeping during the ordeal anyway. The rotund Percheron tilts his head at the other voices, ears cupping towards them.
At the other side of the fense a new creature had emerged from the woods. It was a helluva walk, he knew that for sure. Musket snorted and bobbed his head. His ears swivelled in the direction of voices and he stood, listening quietly. His nostrils flared, catching the scent of other animals...both alive...and dead... He let out a short squeak of a whinny at the thought.
Ooljee humms and glances back to Pollux and grins while her tail flicks about. "Well.. You was asleep, I did it last night." This said with a bob of her head before she looks back to the dog an cat. "Gona try and find out what's going on round this place." She nickers faintly while moving on towards the dog and cat, ears pricked forward as she listions to what the cat says. Caesar eyes Mischief as she talks about the house and sniffs faintly before making a face, his ears tuck back while a faint rumble escapes her. "What happened in the house Mischief?" The wolfhound questions while moving towards the door to peer inwards, something doesn't smell right that's for sure. The dog knows what death is, this is a farm after all but his never known a human to die specially his master.
"He kicked the bucket. Went to the big pasture in the sky. Gave up the ghost. Bit the dust. And if I may make a bit of a pun, bought the farm," Mischief concludes with a cheshire-like grin. "Ah well, no fur off my back. These fences haven't kept me penned in, and they certainly won't now. You dogs might be able to squeeze out as well...but as for you horses..." Mischief trails off with a solemn shake of the head. "Better find you an escape out before curious wolves come a'huntin' for easy pickings once they realize no farmer's around to protect what's his."
Pollux puffs at the air, wandering boredly after the mare when she starts off. He halts a comfortable distance away, just enough to hear them without straining himself. But actually...he scoots a little closer anyway, rather indecisive. Something happened in the house! Must know. Unfortunately, it's not exactly what he wanted to hear. The first noise out of him seems to be a somewhat distressed and somewhat whiny 'eeehhaaauhhhh' type of thing, followed by a trundle forward. "'S a pity...an'so'es ju'sittin'in there? Ewwww." Pollux sticks his lower jaw out slightly, quickly peering over one elephantine shoulder. Wolves? Where? I smash'em. Maybe.
Caesar snorts as he hears this, the smell of death creeping out of every opening from the farmhouse an he turns around moving away from the stench. "So it seems.." The dog offers quietly. He an the farm had a bond an this is a bit of a shock to the dog. He settles down to his haunches, tail curling at his side while his gaze drifts off going to the pasture an then around the farm which is all his ever known. "I'll figure out a way to get everyone out of here. There still under my protection." This said with a gruffy tone, sure he could just leave them to there own doings but he figures he at least owe's them that much. So he does have a heart somewhere in him. Ooljee snorts an eyes Mischief while her ears flick forward an stomps a hoof a few times. "Well if his dead then his either sitting or laying around like a lump." She nikers to Pollux before smirking. "I don't think a wolf would be that stupid with horses like us around." Her attention is pulled away at the sound of something new an she blinks while eyeing a new horse?.. "Hey, who's that?"
Ah, so that's what happened? A shame! Musket moved closer, stretching his neck over the top of the fence and nickering to get the attention of the farmgoers. "Hullo, there!" His voice was friendly and clear, despite the heavy tension in the air now. He chuffed the ground with a hoof in greeting.
"No family, it seems, and no other farms for a long while - looks like the farmhouse will become his tomb." At least until a hungry predator drags what's left of him out and away, Mischief thinks to herself. At Ooljee's comment, she turns to eye the stallion briefly and with a lack of interest. "You mean he's not one of the farmer's?" Not like she ever paid attention, anyway. But addressing Ooljee further, she warns: "Don't matter if you can fend 'em off or not, miss. You'll have to find more food eventually - that pasture out there will be picked clean before long. Maybe this stranger here can help, since he apparently got past the very fences you'll have to go through as well."
Pollux snorts and peers over, lifting his chin at the new face. "...prolly jumped. Coward. I woulda jus'knocked'em down." Well, that logic makes sense to him, at least. Big brown eyes blink back at Ooljee. "I dunno who'e is either. Mebbe we could ask. Mebbe." His shortened tail gives a swish.
Ooljee eyes the cat a bit, she has a point.. Her attention goes back to the strange horse and she whinneys faintly. "Well.. you go ask him his name." This said to Pollux, she'll make him do something it seems. Caesar nods a bit while a half sigh escapes him. The dog's attention turns to the new horse an he blinks some but doesn't say anything letting the horses do what they want. "So then, were will you go Mischief?" The dog questions curiously.
Musket's ears perked and swished his tail, waiting patiently. What, did they ever see another horse before?
A protective paw slipping over the kitten's form, Mischief glances southwest, towards the meadow, and perhaps even further towards the forest. "I'll survive. I've met some feral cats out in the forest area, but I'm not much for the 'communal' type situation," she replies. "So long as there's trees to hide in and mice to eat, I think I can manage quite well. I might even stay in the barn - at least it won't stink there. Well, as much."
Pollux sighs, though it sounds more like a small thunderstorm a-brewing. "Hoookay." With that, the round stallion starts his way over towards Musket, ears forward and tail breezy. "Heeey-oh. Who're you?" Pollux stops a few steps away, not all too comfortable with strangers, personally.
Caesar nods at this while stretching as he gets to his paws and starts to move away, looking very much like a broken dog. "I wish you well Mischief." He never had a problem with the cats, they did the farm a favor after all. A faint glance is offered to the horses, including the new one before he moves past them heading back towards the field to spread the news to the rest of the farm. He half ponders what to do himself, no one is really left to back him up so leaving wouldn't be smart, but then staying here wouldn't either. Ooljee smirks at the look from the new horse and follows after Pollux, ears flicking forward while giving her head a shake. They live on a farm of course they have seen other horses thank you very much!
The mustang snorted, shooting the other two equines a grin. "Is something the matter?" Being that he seemed to walk right into the cloud of tension, it was worth asking as far as he knew. Thoughtful eyes moved from Ooljee to Pollux, and back again as he waited.
Pollux hrms at the grinning. "Th'master died. Appirently'es rottin'in the house." Pollux seems disappointed, if anything. And it's gross, that he's just sitting in there. "So no we're all 'lone, I s'ppose." His trunk-like neck shakes a little, eyes flitting back to Ooljee.
Ooljee humms and nods a bit as she hears Pollux.. "Ya.. what he said.." She offers with a faint nicker. A glance is offered back to Pollux and she shrugs some. Don't look at me.. I dono what to do, is the expression she gives back to him.
"Well, if you two are all alone, methinks you won't last long all cooped up in the fence," Musket responded, eyeing the fence.
Pollux nods once, dark chin fidgeting. "Yeeeah. Issa silly fence. Y'think I can break it?" He makes a somewhat excited noise, head jostling about.
Ooljee smirks some. "The fences can't hold us in for long.. Any one of us could break it without a problem." Well she knows she an Pollux could anyway. She eyes the strange stallion. "Just who are you though?"
The mustang chortled at Pollux's remark. "Oh! My name's Musket!" He affirmed it with a friendly nicker. "How about you?" He stepped back a little in case Pollux wanted to bust it right then and there.
Pollux doesn't seem to want to, fortunately. For now. "M'name's Pollux. Nice t'meetcha, Musket." He says each name with a bit of a drawl. The horse steps a little closer, nosing at the fence. Hrm~~.
Ooljee gives her mane a toss while tilting her head eyeing Musket faintly still. "I'm Ooljee.. Where did you come fron?" Someone's curious today it seems.
"I'm from the plain though I kinda like to wander," came the mustang's reply. "There's a herd out that way methinks."
Ooljee humms curiously at this while lifting her head eyeing Musket faintly. "So your own your own then?"
The mustang nodded. "For the most part, yes."
Ooljee nickers a bit while her tail lashes as she takes this in. " I see.." A glance is offered to the quiet Pollux an she smirks some.. Well his no help. Her attention goes back to Musket then to the fence pondering if she should try and break it or not. The cat was right there going to have to figure out a way to leave for food if nothing else.
"If you want me to help you break the fence, I can lend a hoof," the mustang murmured.
Pollux gives a small shrug, turning himself around with a shuffle. "Lemme try, firs'. Mebbe I can do it." With that, he steps back a good way and turns back around to look at the other horses. Moove~?
Ooljee smirks some and nods to Pollux while moving back out of the way. A faint grin if offered as her tail sways. "I'm sure you can do it Pollux."
Musket was glad he'd already moved! He watched the other horse curiously.
Pollux gives a few small stomps forth and back, soon pushing forward and into a run at the fence, where he had been snuffling once before. The ground under his hooves seems to rumble with the bounding of his girth; as he nears the fence, he pulls his head back and rams the wood with his hard chest--the same one that has for years worked away at the farm. The wooden thing as little fair chance against Pollux, and it splinters in a horse-size hole, wood flinging about into the grass. Smoosh! YAY. Pollux has a couple scratches, but he doesn't seem to mind, as he's already prancing his big self about happily.
Ooljee twitches some as she shifts from hoof to hoof a bit nervous like. Her tail lashes an she pulls her head back as she watches Pollux slam into the chest. A faint nicker escaping her and she whinnes out once the gate is broken. "Good job Pollux!" The ardennes offers happly while trodding towards the hole. "Now everyone can get out of this place."
Looking up from grooming her kitten with a bored stare at the sound of splintering wood, Mischief glances over at the stallion. "Y'say you knew of a herd nearby, eh? Better let this bunch know how to get there, lest they be running around in the forest like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off." Assuming the herd is so kind as to help out a bunch of domestic equines.
"I'm not technically part of the herd, persay," Musket nickered. "Although there's only three of them, a stallion and two mares. They seem nice enough."
Pollux grumbles, tail swishing indignantly. "I'm notta chicken..." Mumbling follows, and he soon changes tracks. Erm. Anyway. "Stallion? Dun wild'orses onn'y 'ave one per group er'somethin?"
Many of the animals have been wondering what's going on as of late, seeing how quiet its been on the farm an the fact no farmer has come to feed them.
