My bunny character, Wilhelm, was killed the other night by feral dogs, so I created a new buck--his brother, Thornrove.
The Place:
The Warren - West Run
The Players:
Sunflower, Hawthorn doe
Thornrove, wandering buck
The Scene:
Of course she should be back the burrow attemping to heal but that would make sense. Sunflower is slowly makes her way down the run heading towards Chestnut's burrow to try and check in on her friend. So far no one has stopped her but she is sure that will change at some point. Her right rear leg and side has fang marks upon them, the marks are a bit more then skin deep but luckly that's all the dog was able to do before she was able to free herself. An while the wounds arn't serious her mind still going over what happened, an knowing the fact that Wilhelm is dead doesn't help matters.
It's probably not commonplace for a strange buck to be within the warren, but Thornrove was told that someone here could tell him about his brother. Wilhelm's scent is still strong, and it grows stronger as he gets down into the west run, but it's a day old at best. Thornrove spots the injured doe and immediately knows this is the one he should talk to. What was her name? "Sunflower?" he speaks in a clear, attentive baritone.
Sunflower freezes at her name eyeing Chestnut's burrow ahead of her before her attention goes over to the voice an she blinks some. Who's that.. "Who are you?" She questions while sitting up as best she can, which means she has to half lean back against the wall to not put much weight on her haunch. She can't say she knows him, but there's something about his scent that makes her think of another.
Thornrove takes a moment to pause and draw himself up as best he can--which, in a burrow, isn't very well. "My name's Thornrove," he states, dignified. "I was told you knew something about my brother, Wilhelm?" Frith forbid the poor doe has been subject to his brother's insane rantings. If Thornrove had his way, Wilhelm would've been locked up long ago.
Sunflower ears twitch this way and then before she blinks at Wilhelm's name. She frowns, ears lowering at this while her gaze glances all over but on the buck as if she's done something wrong. She isn't sure if she had seeing how the three were playing an in that case didn't hear the dogs coming.. "I.." There's a pause before she swallows and lifts her head to look at him. "I'm sorry to tell you Thornrove, your brother was killed last night.. A group of dogs.." She murmurs a bit, reason for her own wounds.
The news sends a shock down Thornrove's spine. For all his shortcomings, Wilhelm /was/ a brother, and a favorite punching bag at that. The buck clears his throat and glances at the ground. He should've expected this. Wilhelm was an idiot; he probably went flying into the jaws of the beasts willingly. "Ah," he utters. "I see. Thank you. I hope your wounds heal." And that's all to be said. Thornrove turns back towards the exit.
Sunflower shifts forward a few paces. "Sir..While your brother might have had some short commings, he fought to the end.." She isn't sure what else to say, ears lowered an looking rather depressed to say the least. "His with Frith now.." The youn doe murmurs softly. Sure she was mad at Wilhelm for speaking about her mother the way he did but she never wanted this to happen. An he did losen up there some at the end to show he was an alright fellow.
Thornrove pauses a moment, one ear turning back to listen to the doe's words. He glances back at her with a partial smile. "Wilhelm was a fool," he responds matter-of-factly. "With Frith or otherwise, he will remain a fool. I'm sure he welcomed death." He's doing a fine job of not showing the impact of this news.
Sunflower frowns a bit. "He might have been a fool.. But he did not welcome death. Not from what I saw." She did't see much but she saw enough. Her gaze lowers while she settles back down on the ground wishing Chestnut was here so she couldmake sure he was alright. "He'll still be missed." By some at least.
Thornrove grunts softly, dismissively. "You didn't know him like I did, then," he intones. But sadly, Wilhelm was his last hope for reuniting with family. He'd long lost track of his other brothers and sisters--many, like Wilhelm, were dead, while others had simply disappeared. The impact of his death is somewhat effective, even if Thornrove is too proud to admit it.
"Perhaps not.. But then no one kows another like there own family does." Sunflower offers softly while peering over at the buck. She gets the feeling he does indeed miss the fool of a brother but can't admit to it. Bucks are like that, keep everthing to themselves after all. "You.. came looking for him?"
Thornrove shrugs his lean shoulders a bit, turning around fully to face the doe. "Yes," he replies. "Wilhelm and I got separated after our warren was destroyed. He was an idiot and ran away from myself and the rest of our family." And as is the way of Thornrove, he doesn't mention that the split was his fault. He won't ever admit that.
Sunflower nose twitches as she watches you curiously. "I'm sorry.. he could have just gotten confused with everything that was going on." She offers softly, yet she has a feeling that Wilhelm most likely ran off like he said seeing what she saw of him here. But she will not speak ill of someone who has passed.
"It's not a big deal," Thornrove dismisses with a wave of his forepaw. "I half expected to find him dead. I'm surprised he lasted long enough to find this place." He offers a partial smile, then bows his head slightly. "Thank you for your time, Sunflower. I'm sorry for any grief my brother caused this warren, and if it's possible, I'd like to apologize personally to any that he might have wronged."
Sunflower tilts her head, nose twitching. "He was different then us here.. He said a few things but he never truely wronged anyone Thornrove. Though, you should speak to my father and mother. My father is Captain Blackbriar, and my mother Nightshade, an officer of the Owsla. They dealt with him more then I."
Thornrove nods slowly. "Where might I find these rabbits?" he asks, his ears swiveling forward. He's not terribly fond of Owsla, but perhaps the Owsla of this warren is different.
Sunflower glances the way he came thinking. "There around at the moment.. If you wait around some I'm sure your bum into them without a problem though."
Thornrove nods again. "Then I suppose I'll stick around for a little while," he says. Perhaps that was his intention all along. It's hard to tell. He smiles again, and with another "thank you", he turns to escape from the burrow, hoping perhaps to find the rabbits he seeks up top.
Sunflower smiles a bit and nods some while taking in a slight breath. "Of course, take care Thornrove."
