Undergrowth (Lazuli)
Order of Appearance
Lykaios – Male Wolf
Halidari – Female Lazuli Wolf
Bodhi – Male Lazuli Wolf
The trio talk about how to wake a wolf. To wake a wolf you use water, but to know whats to happen to you afterwards... you keep an eye out.
Scene
Lykaios has spent the past couple weeks in the grasslands with Johari and her friends. More than long enough to realize that the foxes are well cared for. Long enough to miss Halidari, as well. Much earlier today, he left Johari and her friends to return to Lazuli territory. It was evening when he reached the forest, and it is later still before he draws closer to the den, ears perked and sniffing the air as he walks.
Lounging near the den site, with little to do but keep watch over things as most everyone slept, was Halidari who honestly could say she was bored but would never admit it. It has been weeks since she last saw Lykaios and she was starting to miss him; she often thought about going to see him but knew that would only cause more grief on her part. Besides, her sister was home and that chance to be together was only few in a lifetime. So remaining near the den for the moment, she decides to stand and at least make the attempt to look productive by checking out the outlying area.
Bodhi on the other paw having been out patrolling the borders of the packs territory when coming across Lykaios's scent have silently been tracking him down, the concept of actually howling a warning slipping from his mind as the few times he have had to do that in the past nobody responded to his calls. As he notices the path leading toward the den site tho he increases his pace to try and catch up with the scents owner.
Lykaios has been cautious in the past when he approaches the den. That caution is not so present anymore. He is so focused on catching up with Halidari that he never notices the sound of paw steps drawing nearer from behind him. It has been a long journey for the youthful wolf, and his pace is slow even after he realizes Halidari's scent is getting stronger, that he'll be back by her side within a couple moments.
Halidari was never really hard to find, always in the area just not always in plain sight. Moving through the undergrowth and to the outlying trees, upwind, the scents of others weren't a possible distraction to her, but the sudden sound of paw steps was. Ears twitching, she looks up from her path and to the area around her. Listening closely for the owner, she looks to the den site for a moment then back out to the open. Returning to the den was her first and only option, least till she knew who was in approach; and so she turns and heads back.
Bodhi growls lowly to himself as he notes how close to the den they have gotten then blinks and grins slightly as he finally catches a sight of the 'intruder' "Stop and identify yourself stranger, you are heading toward a potentially dangerous area" his voice fairly stern as he increases his pace.
Lykaios stops walking abruptly when he hears faint growling behind him. He turns to face Bodhi and crouches slightly, but it's merely a defensive gesture, not aggressive. His tail hangs limply and his ears are only slightly turned back. He has been warned often enough that he may run into wolves that do not recognize his right to be here. "My name is Lykaios. Your alpha has given me permission to be here." That permission is what keeps Lykaios calm.
Not even reaching the den, off by a few meters, Halidari is stopped by the voice of possibly the one in near intrusion. Ears back, she thinks over the voice and is unsure if she can place is within the pack even though its oddly familiar. Turning to face it and the one whom is being spoken too, Hali holds her ground until she knows exactly who it is. That name, yes she certainly knows it, and all too well. Lowering her guard, though only slightly, she approaches Lykaios and Bodhi from the opposite direction.
Bodhi has his head cocked slightly as he studies Lykaios and breaths in deeply to catch what scents he is able on him "Hmm, i sense no deception in your words, so i will believe you in this instance, especially since your path was fairly direct toward the den" a wry smirk appearing on his lips "besides, i can catch the scent of many foxes on you but not their blood which differentiates you a bit" Brows furrowing deeply as he thinks "Lykaios, why does that name seem somewhat familiar" his last words more a mumble to himself then anything.
Imagine that being calm could work. Lykaios has gotten out of his fair share of scrapes when he was aggressive, but none so easily. As the other male wolf appears to believe what he says, though, Lyk stands upright and straightens his ears. "Maybe you have heard it around here before. I have met many in this pack." Just then, he catches the sound of another set of approach paw steps, and he glances in that direction.
Or perhaps it's because of her, the things she does around her aren't exactly secret these days; but there are a few forgetful minds. Trailing forward, Halidari doesn't stop when she is looked toward, but rather continues stopping just at the side of Lyka. Bumping into the male slightly, she draws her attention to Bodhi. She looks at him for a moment then lets out a faint smile. "Bodhi...” she says in nod, greeting him. Seems she does remember him even if it is only vaguely.
Bodhi diverting his attention from Lykaios to Halidari as she approaches he can't help but smile wryly, while it’s been a long time since he last saw her he does remember her quite well even tho she has changed a lot "Halidari, its great to see you again." a deep and respectful nod offered to her as he pads forward to offer a gentle nuzzle before sitting down. "I guess I can see why you have gotten permission from Storm to stay around." his voice somewhat amused as he returns his attention to Lyka.
Lykaios smiles when Halidari comes into sight, relaxing as she comes to a stop beside him and leaning against the bump. It seems like he had been away from her longer than he actually was, but that's okay, before they're back together again. Even as Bodhi and Halidari are talking, Hali gets all of his attention for a few moments, with a nose bump to her shoulder and a light lick. Only after these small signs of affection does he look back to Bodhi. "Felstride. I haven't met Storm yet." Because he tries to avoid the pups whenever possible, to avoid setting the mothers on edge.
He remember her too it seems, well that’s a relief. Once more giving a smile to the wolf, she nuzzles him back upon accepting his. "It is a pleasure to see you again as well." Reunions were always good, especially the warmhearted ones. The nose to her shoulder and lick give Lyka a gentle look from Hali as she rubs her head against his. "I'm sure you will." She says then taking a seat. "A mother can be quite busy and waiting is usually the best option."
Bodhi smirks slightly "Somewhat foolish of me to assume it was Storm you had spoken to." shakes his head and snorts "I’ll just blame that on it being Storm I see the most of the alphas" the smirk twisting into a warm smile "I will also agree that waiting might be the wisest course of action with mothers" his brows furrowing slightly as he studies the two of them idly "It’s good to have you back tho Hali, and I will offer you a belated welcome Lykaios" A respectful nod offered him.
Lykaios is certainly not complaining. He will not be as worried when he meets Halidari's mother as he was when he met her father, but he's not chomping at the bit to do it, either. He can wait as long as need be. The one thing he has developed since meeting Halidari is remarkable patience, borne of necessity. Sitting beside the female wolf, he gives a nod to Bodhi and says, "Thank you."
"It is much appreciated, Bodhi." Hali states, flicking her tail out beside her. "Though, I have been here for quite some time now. It is a surprise that you have not noticed sooner." Halidari has been here for several moons in fact, but does not throw blame on those who have not known. "I'm not one to complain, however, I hadn't noticed you until now myself." she chuckles to herself. "I suppose we have our reasons."
Bodhi dips his head slightly as he muses thoughtfully "I don't really spend too much time at the den site to be honest, most my time is spent wandering the borders of our land which is also where I tend to sleep" his voice soft as he speaks "except for the times I cross the borders obviously to talk to others or just explore."
Halidari nods softly to this. "Sounds like you've been keeping yourself busy. It’s not good to work yourself to much." She says looking somewhat worried. "You should take a break sometime and come spend time with family." Bodhi may not be related but he's a part of the pack and that makes him family. "It'll be good to have you around and who knows, one day something exciting could happen." She tries to sound encouraging while at the same time caring.
Bodhi chuckles softly and shakes his head "true enough Hali, i likely should spend more time here but i seem to have a bad habit of being awake while the others are sleeping and as such I tend to be bored witless just watching the den site" a slight smirk appearing on his lips "one has to admit that very calm times are good times for the pack tho even if boring for the restless"
Lykaios has been bored himself often enough, and has done his fair share of wandering when bored. It's possible that he and Bodhi are not altogether unalike, but then, Lykaios is not actually a member of this pack. With a thin smile, trying to keep himself involved in the light conversation, "No one can blame you for that. A hole in the ground is not the most exciting thing to watch."
Halidari can't say that she blames him; she knows exactly how it feels to be around the den and find it absolutely boring. Holding in a chuckle she says, "Come now, it can't possibly be that bad. There are always advantages to sticking around the places you find unbearable." Looking to them both, "I've learned that if you’re away you miss things. Some are alright, but others you wish you had been there for." Hali has feel victim to this many times, and is now trying to make up for it.
Bodhi grins slightly "Very true, which you are a solid proof of after all." his voice quite amused "After all, if I had been around the den site more I would have met you a lot earlier, all I would have had to hope on in that case is catching you awake." a nod offered to Lykaois as well "And you are correct, a hole in the ground is not the most exciting thing to watch except when somebody steps out of it."
Lykaios manages a slightly more genuine grin and nose bumps Halidari again. "It's not always a problem if someone isn't awake. After all, waking them up can be fun in and of itself." He's still young enough to have a playful streak, though it has been slightly diminished by being the latest greatest toy to a couple foxes over the past few weeks.
Halidari chuckles softly. "Yes, but I'm sure other times would of presented them self." she says side-glancing to Lykaios as he nose bumps her once more. "I don't think that finding me awake will be much a task. As Lyk has said you could always wake me if I am." she nods. Leaning against Lyk she tells Bodhi, "So, if you ever want someone to bug, you don't have to look real far." She's made herself the target here and hopes she won't have to regret it.
Bodhi chuckles softly and shakes his head which seems to be a quirk of sorts "A rather dangerous thing to allow considering how my mind tends to jump from idea to idea, which you might or might not recall" his gaze going to the sky for a few moments before he looks back at the two "So Lykaios, would you have any good ideas on how to wake her if she is sleeping?"
"That, of course, depends on where she is while she's sleeping. Being close to water opens up all sorts of opportunities." Lyk smiles and rests his head against Halidari. Under normal circumstances, he might be a little more reserved, but he has been away from Halidari for too long to abandons any affection just because there is another wolf nearby.
Halidari had taken quiet the consideration on the things Bodhi is capable of when she said that; though she feels she can trust him to do the right thing... least she hopes she can. Looking to Lyka when he's asked a question, she raises a brow. He's response wasn't what she would of guessed; she had expected him to say he'd pounce her or something closely related. She's going to have to keep an open eye when around water now. "Water works, yes, but I must warn you. I look terrible when wet." she chuckles.
Bodhi chuckles wryly "Now that does indeed open a lot of opportunities, especially since I’ve loved being in the water since i was rather young" a sly grin appearing on his lips "so I don't think I’d worry too much on how you look when wet"
Lykaios would argue that Hali looks fine no matter what, but then... Has he ever seen her wet? Maybe once, when she caught those fish, but she wasn't terribly wet by the time he saw her. Certainly, he has never woken her up by splashing her or anything else, but it /is/ an idea. Lykaios simply grins, not saying anything else for the moment. Bodhi can figure out other ways to wake Hali up on his own.
Halidari never said that she was worried, she was just giving notice. She's looked terrible before and took it to heart because the way she looked was the way she felt as well. "We'll just have to see then, I guess. Will I be lucky and remain dry or fall victim to the waves." she laughs.
Bodhi just grins innocently "a good question, i guess its really up in the air now that you expect it tho" chuckles wryly as he cocks his head "will i put the idea on hold since you know about it, or will i do it since you might expect me to put it on hold since you know it."
Halidari nods thoughtfully. "Makes you wonder, but, I'm not going to linger on such things. I for one could use a surprise." She chuckles once more as she looks to Lyka whose fallen silent. Giving him a nudge, she turns back to Bodhi, "I'm going to keep an eye out though." A surprise from him could turn out to be more than just a surprise.
Lykaios rubs his shoulder against Hali's shoulder with a smile. To some degree, he's content to watch and listen to Hali with this packmate of hers, who seems to have a good sense of humor. Though, while he has been listening, he has been thinking about other ways he might wake up Hali in the future. The consent might not have extended to him, but such details are trifling. Finishing up the logical extension of Bodhi's sentence, he says, "From any number of sources."
Halidari couldn't agree more. "Of course. That’s why if something is going to happen, I'll have some kind of idea rather than nothing at all." Though, she might take something more of a unknowing surprise if it means more fun. "The only thing I'll have to do is think of something to do back." she grins.
Bodhi muses thoughtfully as he lets out a slight yawns "Hmm, now that might make me worried actually since I don't really know what i can expect from you" shakes his head slightly "your mindset makes me wonder if you didn't listen to me while teaching Lark tho" his nose wrinkling slightly "which makes it all the more impressive since i didn't notice or catch you doing it" his voice somewhat amused.
Lykaios is not so worried, because playing tricks on people quickly grows boring if they don't play tricks back. If only Lykaios had learned lessons like that one many, many months ago... Well, he never would have met Halidari. Lacking any knowledge about most of Hali's childhood and how Bodhi played into it, he remains quiet to allow Hali to respond to Bodhi.
Did she learn anything from her pup hood; maybe. Did she pick up anything from the times Bodhi spent with her sister; that can only be proven through time. Halidari was more of an observer when she was younger, doing things out of character just wasn't like her, and though it would be a lie if she didn't learn anything from all the times she was around him. Shaking her head, "Seems you have more to worry about then I do." she snickers. "But don't let it get to you. If I did pick up anything, I'm sure you'll know it."
Bodhi gives a wry grin "yes, but will i know it before or after you have done it to me"
"Of course, if that's the case, and Bodhi was teaching you things back then... I think I have the most to worry about." Lykaios has no idea who "Lark" is or what tricks Halidari may have learned while Bodhi was teaching Lark, but it leaves him at a definite disadvantage. Not worried, though he may have reason to be, and with a grin, he adds, "I guess I'll have to work a bit harder to get an edge, then."
Halidari chuckles, "That you'll just have to find out." Knowing what’s to come beats the point of it actually happening. Raising a brow as Lykaios speaks; she looks to him and smiles. "I wouldn't do anything to you Lyk, you know that." she grins innocently. "Not without asking you first, of course." Hali lies, but no one has to know that.
Lykaios gives the slightest nip to Hali's shoulder, scarcely hard enough to be felt. "I suppose you're a better wolf than I am, then. But I always knew that." A warning? Mere flattery? Some combination of the two? Besides the light-hearted tone, there is no indication of what Lyk may be thinking.
Halidari smirks to the slight nip to her shoulder. Was he saying that he wouldn't do the same; that he'd do something out of the blue and not tell her; not like she didn't expect something like that. "I don't know about that, I'd say we're pretty even." They've been around each other long enough to know that what one does the other does.
