Scene
Sierra comes trotting into the glen. She's caught a ground squirrel. It's not terribly impressive as far as size, but hey, she caught it all by herself and she's quite proud. It's not QUITE dead...still a little squirmy but she's pretty sure it won't be going anywhere...maybe the pups will want to play with it. She peers around the glen, heading toward the den to see if the pups are awake.
Silvan wakes from his spot near the den, yawning and stretching out his legs and back as he gets to his paws. He sniffs around the glen a bit before lifting his head and wagging his tail in greeting When he sees his daughter approaching, listening at the den for a moment to see if the pups are awake before trotting toward her, "Been out hunting I see."
Coming from the opposite direction towards the den is none other than Sierra's older brother, Haben. The adolescent has been rather secluded as of late and has been keeping to himself a bit. Hey, when you can't find your brothers anywhere to play with you might as well go find something else to do by yourself right? However, recent news of his older sister having pups has drawn Haben out from private and out into the open. As of now, he's heading towards the den as well, hoping to congratulate his favorate sister.
Back and forth the pup comes from inside the den to the surface of the glen; several times he does this until he finds himself ploping down on a moss covered rock with limbs out beside him and curled around the rock. Bushed, as it would be said, Tariro peers out with droped eyes and lowered ears. His coat of white fluff has taken in a green and brown tinge, obviously dirty from his random bouts of tunnel traveling. Missing everyone in the area, least till the one closest moves, Silvan, Tari looks up with a look of shock. How could he of missed that.
Sierra wags a happy greeting to her father. She doesn't respond, not wanting to release her catch, but does give him an awkward nuzzle. She spots the pup before she recognizes Haben's approach, and bounds happily over toward him. She drops to her belly, chin on the ground, paws on either side of her head, tail wagging a blur behind her. She hopes he'll like her present. The ground squirrel squirms a bit, squeaking frustration.
Silvan chuckles and lets Sierra present her gift to the pup, knowing Tari won't know what to do with it yet, but maybe he can have some fun with it. he stretches some more as he watches, dropping his front down with his rump in the air before straightening up again, having heard movement behind him, though it's soon evident that it's Haben. A wag of the tail is offered to him as well before saying, "Hello son, Haven't seen you around in a while."
Well it looks like his timing couldn't have been more perfect. Not only does he get to see a pup, but also his father and sister which he hasn't seen in a bit either. Haben gives a smile and a wag of his tail to his father, then reaches down to give him a small nuzzle. "Hey Dad. Sorry I've been gone lately, just been kinda bored I guess." At least without his brothers around he has been. At least it looks like he will have some newplaymates in the future to hang out with too. "Sierra how about you give him some room to come out a bit before you barage him with that squirrel," he says jokingly to his eager sister before taking a seat next to Silvan.
If he was going to miss one he certainly wasn't going to miss the second. Keeping eye on the older male, whos has become known as grandpa, Tariro manages to see the wolf from before with him, who was it.. gah.. he couldn't remember. When she comes over to him, he lifts his head from the rock with several blinks of his eyes. Watching Sierra drop to the ground, he head tilts glancing to the squirrel that squirms. What is that he wonders, bringing in his limbs and scooting forward just a tad. Looking to his aunt then back to the squirrel several times, he lifts a paw to bat at the captured, jumping back when it moves.
Sierra drops the injured squirrel before Tariro. It is indeed too injured to do much but squirm. No pity from Sierra for the squirrel though, such is the way of the predator. She paws at it to elicit more squirms and squeaks for the pup, then looks up and back at Haben. She tilts her head at her brother, unsure what to think of his sudden reappearance, but family ties kick in and she turns to greet him, tail wagging slowly. "Hey you...where ya been? Out sniffing up girls?"
Silvan grins and takes a seat as well, keeping an eye on the pup and the squirrel, those can still bite pretty hard when they're desperate and cornered. He chuckles at Sierra's comment, glancing to Haben for a moment to see his reaction before saying, "Not unless he's left the territory, and he shouldn't have..." He doesn't mention sierra leaving the borders to talk to the young wolves from Lazuli.
Haben actually takes a surprised step back at Sierra's sudden comment. If it could be seen through his dark fur, he'd be blushing. "What, no no of course I haven't left the territory Dad. And I /haven't/ been sniffing up girls, ok." Way to put him on the spot so suddenly. "Jeez, it's nice to see you too Sierra," he says jokingly at her, with a small grin. Feeling the sudden need to change the subject, Haben quickly tries to regain his composure before looking down at the lone pup playing with the squirrel and asking, "So I take it this is one of Cotton's pups. What's his name?"
Squeaks and squirms. If there was one thing Tariro had seen enough of, it was that. However, seeing it from the squirrel was certainly different than seeing it from his brother and sister. Watching it, the pup crawls in near, ears still back. He sniffs and then suddenly yips at the squirrel, butt in the air and tail splayed upward. Jumping foward, back, then to the side, Tari yips again.
Sierra grins as her jibe hits home with her brother. She chuckles, shoulder-bumping him good-naturedly. "No girls? Ah well, it's good to have you back anyway. You gonna stick around this time?" She looks back to Tariro, supervising his interaction with the rodent. She paws at it, rolling it over to keep it moving.
Silvan laughs softly at Tari and the rodent before turning his attention back to his offspring, wondering how long it will be before they decide to leave to find mates or just to see what's out beyond the borders, Sierra has already started venturing out, so he decide's it probably won't be long, "I hope you stay long enough to see your mother, she misses you."
It's not like Haben took a trip around the world and is now just returning, he's just been...distant as of late is all. Giving a nod to his father and sister, he says, "Yeah of course I will. Plus it looks like things are going to get busy now with some pups to look after." And they should be /plenty/ to keep him occupied. And as for leaving the territory to explore... well it could happen sooner or later. He's already explored most of Viridian so it might be fun to so see what's beyond the borders. But for now, looking after the pups and spending some time with his family is just what he needs.
Leave it alone, let me do it, Tariro motions to say as he looks up to his aunt then down to the rodent as she rolls it over. Sitting down, he momentarily forgets about the squirrel and looks up to everyone else. Picking his ears up from his skull, he takes in a big breathe before dropping to the ground prepping himself to puppy attack the rodent.
Sierra chuckles softly at Tariro. "Okay okay!" She backs away, letting him have at it. That's what she had hoped for afterall. She looks back to her brother, wagging tail brushing over the ground behind her. "Now that they're coming out of the den more, they're going to be keeping us all quite busy." She grins, enjoying the pups quite a bit. She looks off toward the valley. "I'm sure Mom's out finding some food."
Silvan nods to Sierra, looking up the valley for a moment saying, "I'm sure she is..." before looking back, lowering his head and ramming Haben with it playfully, "Good to hear that you'll be sticking around, if these pups are anything like their mother was at that age we'll need all the help we can get."
Why had Haben all of a sudden become the family punching bag? His shoulder can only take so much abuse, not to mention his pride is suffering as well. Well, that's what family is for right? Turning his attention to the pup, Haben can't help but smile at his little nephew. "Certainly a playful one isn't he?" he comments as he watches the pup prepair to pouce his prey. "Kinda makes me wonder what I was like when I was a pup." That seems so long ago too. Its amazing how time flies so fast.
Tariro lets out a hint of laughter as Sierra backs away. He's got it all to himself now.. perfect, but what to do now. He should of thought that far ahead now shouldn't of he. Flicking his tail he creeps forward, right up to the squirrel, then pounces but he only winds up fliping himself over onto his back on the other side of the rodent with a small thud.
Sierra giggles at Tariro's antics. "That's Tariro...he's a cutey..." She looks back at Haben, grinning deviously, "You were a little ball of thorns, you were." She mercifully doesn't shoulder-bump him again, but does paw at his chest playfully.
Silvan grins, leaning down to nuzzle Tariro as he flops over before looking back up to Haben, saying, "You were a lot like This when you were his age, both of you were. It's amazing how fast you've both grown up, it feels like just last week you were that size."
Haben lets out a soft chuckle at the cub's playful antics. If he was like the pup--Tariro--the he must have giving his parents a rough time looking after him. Most of his cubhood is a blur and he only remembers bits and pieces of what he did during that time. "Heh, all I really remember was always tackling either Lexus or Liam all the time, always trying to show 'em who's boss." Ahh good times, good times.
Tariro looks up from his play as his name is mentioned; paws in the air. "Tari!" He lets out in a very childish manner. When nuzzled by granpa, he reaches up with his paws and bats at Silvan's face till its unable to be reached. Rolling to his side next, he frowns.
Sierra chuckles softly. She sprawls out on her belly amidst the roots that surround the den. She watches Tariro fondly, glancing back at Haben. "Yeah...big bully," she teases. She looks back to Silvan, "I kinda miss it sometimes...being a pup like that..."
Silvan grins and nods to Sierra, laying down to block the way out of the area right around the den in case the pup decideds to make a run for it, "I miss that time too... but it feels good to see you growing up to be good strong wolves and I want to see how well you do for yourselves too."
Well, Haben wouldn't call himself a /bully/, more like a... good big brother. Where else are they going to learn to defend themselves?! Smirking to himself, Haben plops down on his belly next to his sister, smiling at the little bundle of energy in front of him. "Yeah, those times did seem great. Not a care in the world for anything." Sometimes all this grown up stuff seems tough and boring. It would be great to be a pup again but, alas, that's not the way the world works.
Make a run for it.. what kind of pup do they think he is. Remaining his lay there, Tariro looks up at everyone with an interest to do something; a young pup can't play by himself you know.
Sierra smiles at Silvan, leaning over to give her father a lick. "Yeah...it is good to be a grown-up too...well, mostly grown-up anyway. Couldn't run nearly as fast as a pup." She grins, "And hunting is great!" She leans against Haben a bit, chuckling at Tariro. She stretches out a paw toward the pup, splaying her toes, "Are you done with the squirrel, Tari?"
Haben smiles contently as he leans back up against Sierra, giving her a small nuzzle. Yeah, family time is just what this adolecent needs right now. Placing his head between his front paws, Haben smiles happily as he watches the pup play with anything it can. It's also at this time where he notices that the long walk to the den must have tired him out more than he thought. Letting out a long yawn, Haben says to no one in particular, "Hey guys, I'm gunna doze off for a bit now." And before anyone has the chance to respond, he's fast asleep with his sister still leaning on him. He'll have plenty of time to hang out with the cubs later but for now, it's resting time. Plus, Haben has a feeling that they will wear him out sooner or later.
Tariro has been down with the squirrel for hours now.. how a few minutes, but it sure feels like hours to him. Giving several nods, he stands and moves over to Sierra and grabs her paw in his mouth, pulling.
Sierra grins, she glances over at Silvan and gestures with her muzzle toward the squirrel. Time to put it out of its misery. She looks back to Tariro's insistent tugging with a laugh, letting him pull her paw forward, slowly, in a sort of tug-of-war. She'd then give him a sudden gentle push with that paw, knocking him onto his back, and then pounce forward to slather his tubby puppy belly with slobbery kisses.
Silvan chuckles at the two young wolves as he gets up and retrieves the squirrel, biting into it's neck to kill it before moving it over to the stash. he licks the blood off of his muzzle before turning back, another yawn escaping him as he sit's down to watch.
Tariro pulls back for as long as he is allowed. As he goes to show his might, he's unexpectedly pushed back, falling into his back with a giggle. Starting to roll to his side, the pup eeps as he is pounced and ambushed with slobbery kisses. Pawing upward to defending himself, he attempts to lick back.
Sierra makes playful little rrr-rrr growling sounds. She gasps at the retaliation, stumbling backward as though she were trying to escape, and falling onto her back, paws flailing in the air. "Ach!"
Silvan grins and nudges Tari softly after laughing at Sierra's antics, saying, "Better get her while you've got the chance kid." before stepping over and nipping at one of the flailing paws.
Tariro giggles the only way a pup knows how as his aunt releases him. Seeing her falls back, he takes gramps word and makes for toward Sierra while she's down. Jumping up, or trying that is, he fails several times but them finally manages to climb aboard and nip at her cheast fur.
Sierra squeals, batting lightly at Silvan's face. She chuckles, "Oh no! You've got me!" She squirms slightly, as though struggling, but is careful not to dislodge the pup.
Silvan laughs and steps back, settling back to his haunches and letting her deal with the pup for a bit, his mind wondering to other trains of thought for a bit before he decides that the one squirrel isn't going to be enough for everyone, "I'm going to go out to hunt hun. You seem to have Tari handled."
Victory! First time playiang with one bigger than he and he comes out on top. Taking to his haunches, Tariro claims his aunt as defeated, nup to her face and gives a big smirk to her. "I win." he tells her.
Sierra laughs, but gives a retaliatory slurp, "You win! You got me." She grins, tail wagging briskly. "You're going to be a mighty hunter! Mighty hunter Tari!" She looks over at Silvan. "Catch something fat and juicy, Pop!"
Silvan chuckles and looks back to nod, saying, "I'll see what I can do, might even come across a wounded deer." before disapearing around the bend in the trail.
"'Unter..." Tari doesn't know what one of those are. Stepping back, he sits on auntie Sierra. "I be mighty 'Unter!" she shouts out, not even saying it right.
Sierra laughs. "Hunter, yes. You'll bring down elk and moose with the best of us. But I think for now we'll just stick to playing with mostly dead squirrels." She chuckles, giving him a little ruffle on the top of the head with her paw.
"Bes of dus...?" Tariro tilts his head slowly. He really is trying, but all these 'big' words are a little to much for him right now. "I da 'unter now!" he says droping down at the ruffle to his head. "I da..." a yawn escapes his muzzle. "I da..." he doesn't finish.
Sierra chuckles softly. She twists her body to grasp him by the scruff, then rolls to her belly and deposits him against her side so he can rest. She follows suit with a yawn of her own. "Indeed you are," she murmurs, giving him a few gentle licks before settling down herself.
Not saying another word, Tari curls up beside Sierra with another yawn. To much play has made the pup tired.
