Characters:
Pelutho - Male Adolescent Cougar
Kein - Male Adolescent Cougar
- Deep Crevice -
Pelutho enters the cave around mid-day, looking hesitant. Kein will be awake by now, right? The cougar is anxious to see his brother, though he knows Kein is all right. He is tempted to turn right back around and wait until the other male is well enough to leave to cave...but that seems too cold. Kein is his /brother/. The cave is a little more cramped than he remembers, and he pauses for a moment before saying softly, "Hey Kein."
Kein lifts his head when he hears his brother's familiar voice. It's still rather early in the day. He'd wanted to wait until it was dark before he spoke to Pelutho. Now that his brother is here, though... He pulls himself to a sitting position and says, "Hey Pel." His tone is less than enthusiastic, but he does not sound particularly upset that his brother is here. He'd have just preferred to wait, so his brother wouldn't have to see him like this.
Pelutho's eyes wander over Kein, pausing on his wounds. Ears splaying and shoulders hunching, he asks, "How are you feeling?" He regrets the question immediately after he says it. What is Kein going to say? 'Wow, better than ever?' Maybe he /should/ have waiting until his brother was properly healed. Oh well. Too late now. The cougar's tail flicks nervously.
Like his mother, Kein is not particularly prone to sarcasm. As such, he answers, "I'm okay." It's more or less true. Sitting up did not hurt. He wouldn't want to travel the distance he did yesterday again anytime soon, but he is getting better. He knows he is.
"Good," Pel replies, sounding relieved. Well, he's out of ideas for conversation. It's never been his strong point. After a quiet minute, he adds, "I'm glad to see you well. I was worried..." He trails off and clears his throat before lapsing into silence again. The cougar is more comfortable that way.
Kein is not particularly comfortable. Even so, he forces himself to give Pelutho a small smile, and in an attempt to reassure his brother that he really is fine, he says, "Chesmu could never beat me, Pel." What Kein says is not an unusual statement for the normally boastful young male... But in this case, it's a lie. He's more afraid than he would ever like to admit... And he really doesn't want Pel to know that. He doesn't want /any/ of his family, or Nayeli, to know it, but especially not Pelutho.
"Of course he couldn't" Pel replies, chancing a little grin in return. He's not sure if he really believes it. On one paw, Kein has /always/ been able to do /everything/...on the other, Chesmu is a full grown adult. "And don't worry, we've got a pretty solid watch out here in case Chesmu tries anything." This is meant to be comforting, but the cougar isn't terrible experienced with the whole 'comforting' thing, so it doesn't sound as nice as he would like.
Actually, what Pel first says is more comforting, more reassuring, than Pelutho's actual attempt to be comforting. For the first time, Kein is honestly feeling like things could, potentially, return to normal from here. It may take a little bit of lying, of forced light-heartedness, on his part, but as long as his family is willing to respond in kind... Things will be okay. "I know you do. Thank you." Kein's small smile remains while he speaks, even becoming a little more natural, a little less forced.
"Get some rest, ok? I think it's my turn to watch." Pelutho flashes a wider smile and turns to leave, feeling pretty positive. This wasn't so bad! Ha! The young cougar feels a small surge in confidence, realizing that he has managed to have a pretty normal conversation with his brother, despite himself.
It is now your pose.
Kein doesn't have any particular desire to rest anymore, but even so, he nods and slowly lies back down. After this conversation with his brother, where everything seemed /normal/, seemed good... The boredom of just lying down all day bothers him even more than usual. He watches as Pelutho leaves the cave. Well... If it's Pel's turn to watch, maybe his mother will return soon, and hopefully Nayeli, as well.
