Characters:
Chesmu - male adult cougar (Amaranth)
Nayeli - female adolescent cougar (Amaranth)
Setting:
Wooded Terrain (Amaranth)
Scene:
Chesmu has been working on walking again. His wounds have been healing pretty well, considering the number Maulisho did on him, the most he can think of now is that Maulisho will both leave him forever and never talk to him again. It's not comforting that Chesmu might be comparing himself to Imala a lot more.
Much happier after the time spent with Yuma, Nayeli is finally approaching where her father is supposedly resting. She wouldn't be surprised to find him moved, but if that's the case, she'll just track him to his new resting place. Her mood, previously quite happy, is now turning somber again as she trudges north from the snowy area into the deeper forest. Eyes are looking carefully for where her father might be lying.
Chesmu is not far from where Maulisho placed him, carefully taking his steps, wistfully sighting, but pleased that it's not making him dizzy any more, a very good sign. He smiles.
Nayeli definitely wasn't expecting to see her father already walking, and it brings mixed feelings. She's glad to see that he's getting over his injuries, that he's going to make it through okay, but... this means that he'll also eventually be able to hurt Kein again. Fighting the lump in her throat, Nayeli slinks forward, knowing she should probably call out to her father as to not surprise him, but... she's finding it hard to come up with words.
Chesmu spots Nayeli, at any rate, and carefully steps (wobbily) toward her. "Nayeli. I've been hoping to see you again!"
Where she might normally have rushed forward to give her father a nuzzle or at least to inspect his injuries, Nayeli now stops and lets her father come toward her while she looks at him cautiously. She still doesn't speak; she tries to remember exactly why she came. To see how he was doing, and.. to say goodbye.
Chesmu finally reaches Nayeli and nuzzles her, nearly losing his balance in the process. "What's wrong?"
Here goes nothing. "I'm leaving, Daddy." Those three words seem like they took a lot of energy and effort to say. She knows how upset he was before when this topic came up, but.. he's supposed to have changed his mind, according to Yuma.
Chesmu *has* changed his mind, but that doesn't make those three words like three bullets to his heart. Now Chesmu does fall over. Nothing ceremenious or dramatic, just falls over, tears i his eyes. "I told Yuma I would let you go." Chesmu says. "But know that it... breaks my heart to see you leave, Nayeli."
Briefly, Nayeli allows a bit of anger in her voice. "It broke /my/ heart to see Kein all hurt and bloody in the snow!" She trembles a little. "/After/ I said.. all those terrible things that you /told/ me to say!" Her tail lashes behind her.
Chesmu stands shakily back up. "Now, listen!" Chesmu says to Nayeli. "I never told you to act like you hated him, that was your own doing! You could have just said you weren't going!"
And yet, he doesn't deny attacking Kein even though he was never supposed to. Nayeli had done her best to make sure Kein would be driven far away from her--how can her father possibly blame her for what happened? "I can't believe you did that to him!" She gives an angry and frustrated sigh, and turns around. "Goodbye, Daddy." And she's off, sprinting away while trying to fight back tears. /That/ went about as well as could be expected.
Chesmu gasps and, against all better wisdom, tries to chase after Nayeli. Yuma, it is happening! He's driven her way! "Nayeli! No!" Chesmu says, he doesn't run very far before falling into the snow, watching, in tears, as his daughter runs from him. "Nayeli! Nayeeeeli!"
