Pelutho - Male Adolescent Cougar
Kein - Male Adolescent Cougar
- Sprawling Mesa -
Pelutho is on his way back to the cave. His muzzle is streaked with a hare's blood, which he licks at absently. He walks slowly, savoring the crunch his paws make in the snow.
After a little while of sitting in companionable silence with Kasim, Kein told him he was going to a walk. Since then, he has been slowly following the scent trail Pelutho left when he went to go hunt. He can only hope that Pelutho takes the same way back to the cave that he took away from it, or else this will be a long, and pointless, walk. Luckily, his leg doesn't hurt at all. Actually, all of the stiffness has left since he's gotten a chance to actually move around.
Hm? Is that Kein? Pel moves his attention from the ground before him to his approaching brother. Immediately, he looks for any potential threat, though he knows there isn't anything. He also knows that Kein is probably all healed up-- or else he wouldn't be here. Still, he worries. As he closes the distance between them, he studies the other cougar. Hmm...he /looks/ fine. "Out for a walk?" he asks, once they're fairly close. Today isn't a bad day for a walk. There's no wind and it's not bitterly cold. Perhaps Kein is tempted to enjoy the relatively nice weather?
Kein's pace doesn't slow when he spots his brother, but it does, slightly, when he notices his brother looking him over. Kein will probably be a little self-concious for a long time about the scars Chesmu has left him, but he /does/ seem fine, and when they're close enough that his brother asks him a question, Kein smiles slightly before answering. "Kind of. I was looking for you."
Pelutho's eyebrow raises slightly. "Looking for me?" he repeats, a little surprised. Didn't Mom tell Kein he was going hunting? Oh well. Still, why would he come /searching/? Does Kein think Pel would need back up or something? He tries not to let his somewhat paranoid imagination run away with him, reminding himself that Kein hasn't answered yet.
Kein gives a little nod of his head. He doesn't know for sure how long Nayeli has been gone, but since the sun is advancing in the sky, it has been several hours. With a deep breath, Kein says, "We're leaving soon. Me and Nayeli." Somehow, it's easier to tell Pelutho this than it was to tell either Mom or Kasim, but he still isn't figuring this will be a pleasant conversation.
Pelutho's eyes widen. "Leaving /where/?" He asks, incredulous. The cougar knows that Kein and Nayeli have feelings for each other...but isn't this a bit much? "Are we not good enough for you anymore?" Oh, he didn't mean to say that aloud, but it just kind of...slipped out. "Um, I mean-" The young male stammers, not really sure /what/ he means.
Kein frowns at what Pelutho says, sitting down. His gaze falls to the ground. He hadn't been expecting it to be pleasant, but /this/ is not what he expected. "I... That's not true." Pelutho should know that, shouldn't he? Kein loves his family, but... He can't stay here, and Mom /is/ staying here, so...
"Then don't leave," Pel says simply. He gives it a moment of thought, before correcting himself. "You know what? It's fine. Go ahead and leave. You've always been more independent. I guess I should have seen this coming." The cougar looks away, trying to regain control over his emotions.
Kein shakes his head slowly. Pelutho may have told him to go ahead and leave, but... He can't leave like this, with his brother upset. "I can't stay, Pel. Not with... Well, not with everything that has happened." Kein is /trying/ to be fair in all of this. He named Yuma as acting chieftain. Yuma has decided that Chesmu doesn't deserve to be banished or killed. And Kein cannot stay anywhere where Chesmu is, not if he expects anyone to get a moment's peace.
"I know," Pel replies, a little sadly. "I just...I'll miss you," he admits, making eye contact for a split second. First Ruut'h, now Kein is leaving...it's almost overwhelming for him. "Are you going far?" What he means is, 'Will I see you again?'
Kein stands again and moves closer to Pel when Pelutho says he'll miss Kein, intending to nuzzle against him lightly. After that, he says, "We're going to explore for a little while, but... After that, I'm hoping we'll find a place to stay that will let us visit pretty often."
Pelutho accepts the nuzzle gratefully, and returns it. Both the action and Kein's words comfort him, and he flashes a small smile. "Ok. I guess I'll just have to cope with the boredom, without you here to shake things up." He tries hard to keep his voice light, but there's a sadness in his eyes that betrays his feelings.
Kein manages a light chuckle and takes a step back. He has a slight smile on his face when he steps back, but it's quick to fade. "Once we get there, we'll be sending word of where we are. You'll come and visit us, too, right?" He will miss his brother. It hasn't really hit him yet, since he and Pel don't often actually /talk/, but he knows it'll be as rough for him as it will probably be for Pelutho.
"Of /course/ I'll visit you, Kein!" Pel replies happily. Like he wouldn't visit his own brother? Pfah! After a beat, he continues, "So...are you leaving pretty soon, or?" True, he and Kein don't have the most lengthy conversations, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like spending time with the other male.
Kein doesn't know the exact minute he'll be leaving, but he would describe it as pretty soon. Almost too soon. "Either today or tomorrow. Nayeli left to say goodbye to her family, and once she gets done with that, we'll be going." At least Pelutho is no longer upset, and with the conversations he had with Kasim and Mom, Kein is no longer dreading it as much as he had been. It will all be okay.
Pelutho nods. Wow. Really soon. "I was going to head back to the cave, butif youare going to keep walking...would you like some company?" If this is the last day or so he's going to see of his brother, he's going to make the best of it!
Kein hadn't intended to keep walking, but it's not like he's in pain, and for the chance to spend a little more time with his brother before leaving... "I'd like that, Pelutho." Kein looks around. There is some risk in walking around Amaranth, but hopefully Chesmu will still be far to the north. "How about towards our old home?" He can make his way there and back before it gets late.
"Sounds great, Kein," Pel replies warmly, smiling widely. They probably won't run into any trouble, anyway. The cougar heads toward their old home, walking slowly beside his brother.
Kein turns to head there, keeping in step with Pelutho. It will be nice to see the stone formations one more time before he leaves Amaranth for good. If there is one area within Amaranth that might even seem a little bit like home, it would be there. A large part of him is wondering how Pelutho will do, and after a short distance, he asks, "Do /you/ have any plans for the future, Pel?"
The question makes him stop for a moment. Resuming his stride, he says, "Not really. I haven't really made any plans because, well, with you and Chesmu...I was a little bit busy worrying about that. MKaybe now that things have calmed down a bit..." Pel shrugs, and his thoughts drift to Chandani, and what she said the other day.
Nayeli said that Chesmu wouldn't be a risk to his family, but Kein isn't so sure he believes it. He knows Mom and Kasim will be okay, but Pelutho is no bigger than Kein, and less inclined to fight, so if Chesmu decided to do something... "Just be careful, okay? Yuma is okay, but... I don't trust Chesmu." He never will.
