Marupa had slept the night perched high on a stone pillar, far away from everyone and everything. He wasn't quite feeling himself lately...but at the same time, he was the same old Marupa that the few that had met him knew. Maybe it was a bout of depression. He wasn't certain. He still was perched on that high pillar even after noon. He hadn't come down for anything, not even food. Jumping or falling wouldn't break him, it wasn't /that/ far, but it sure would hurt.
Sara had simply found some rocks that looked interesting she climbs on one and jumps on another thinking this is a great game she hops from rock to rock not noticing marupa. when she hops she is in the air before she sees the cougar on the rock she jumps too she paniks as she knows an inevitable collision about to happen
Marupa lets out a yelp as he notices her at the same moment she notices him. He tries to get up to escape, but is too slow. He grunts as the two impact, sending both off the ledge.
Sara is able to quickly recover from her collision and though it hurther she is alright she slowly walks up to the other male sniffing him shetries apologizing "I am sorry I did not see you till I jumped I did not mean to hurt you"
Marupa smirks, still flat on his side. He gets up too. He's pretty resilient. "Ehh, s'ok. I should have jumped down by now. Besides, I'm not hurt."
Sara smiles and purrs as she sees him saying "you hungry I know where we can get something to eat?" her tail flicks as she watches him she says "if your not hungry we could play a bit" she looks at him smiling as she looks at him playfully keeping to her childish attitude
Marupa chuckles, licking his lips as he stretches out, his back crackling as it realigns from the jolt of impact. He shrugs, "I'm up, I'm up." He smirks, "And sure, I'm up for that."
Sara nods and says "ok first we eat then we play" she walks to a spot where she hid a kill and says "this way" pulling a small deer out of the brush she sets it down in front of him and says "what you think?"
Marupa settles next to her, after she leads him to the spot. "Well, it's more than enough to last us a while." He chuckles, nodding to the female, nosing it to her.
Sara smiles and says "naw you go ahead if you look you would see I already ate some" she purrs as she watches him enjoying someones company hoping he will be her friend.
Marupa nods to Sara, "If you insist." He grins to her, then leans down to nibble at the kill, spitting out big chunks of fur. He looks up occasionally to see if he's gone too far, eaten too much. He /is/ a big cougar.
Sara smiles purring as she just watches him noticing him justnibblingat the kill she says "dot you like deer cause I noticed your only nibbling at it. I doubt a big cougar like you can live off of nibbles why not take big bites?" seeing to encourage him to eat his fill
Marupa's ears sag at this, "Well, I don't want to take too much. It's not my kill after all." He nods to her, smiling as well, before leaning down and truly digging in.
Sara chuckles and says "if I did not wanna share it with you why would I have shown it to you?" she lays downbeside of him as she watches him digging in purringas she watches him seeming to be content
Marupa licks his lips and backs off from it. He nods to Sara, "True. You never know, sometimes, though." He settles next to her.
Sara smiling at him as she says "well are you full? can we play?" looking at him friendly
Marupa chuckles, nodding, "Full enough. Sure, let's play." He stands, stretching once again.
Sara smiles as she swats at him playfully and jumps back purring as she leans down acting like she is gonna try and pounce him.
Marupa takes the swat in the shoulder, and smiles in return, hunkering down to back up into a pouncing position. He sidesteps, to see what she'll do.
Sara pounces at him but she is not really trying to hurt him just a bit of friendly rough housing. acting like an over grown child as she jumps at himjust trying to knock him off his feet
Marupa grins, taking it full on. He flops onto his side as he's pounced upon, and chuckles, rolling over to try and push her off, and getting back into the pouncing position.
Sara laughs as she is thrown offof him and lands next to him she flips back on her feet and waits to see what he does
Marupa grins at this, and with a little wiggle in his butt, he pounces at her. Not to shove her over, but that could be an outcome.
Sara smiles as she is pounced and flips over ending up under him as she chuckles and purrs she says "lookslike your better at this game then I am"
Marupa rolls over again, and chuckles, "Well, I probably have more practice." He shrugs to her, and flumps on his side.
Chesmu has been walking the border again. Though Chesmu is no longer Chieftain, he finds he can't even begin to relax or feel better about himself unless he patrols. So here he is, patrolling.
Sara chuckles and says "I guess so" purring she smiles at him and then catches the scent of another male and says "I think we may have another friend nerby what you think?"
Marupa lifts his nose to sniff, and nods. "Yeah, I'd say we do." He rolls onto his belly, then stands, lifting his nose a bit higher, and smiling.
Chesmu finally reaches the location of the cougar couple. He recognizes Marupa. The very last male Chesmu had confronted as Chieftain. He doesn't recognize the female.
Sara looks over at chesmu as he comes into sight she smiles rather ignorantly and sort of offers her new friend a nuzzle purring as she waits forchesmu to arrive
Marupa looks over at Chesmu, and offers him a smile. He looks a bit surprised at the nuzzling, but returns it. "Hello, Chesmu."
Chesmu grunts. Here's the problem with Chesmu doing border patrol: Because he is no longer Chieftain, he no longer has authoirty over whether a cougar stays or goes. It's just as well, Chesmu's mood has been gruff at best and downright hostile at worst.
Sara smiles and says "I never got your name by the way I am sara" looking over at chesmu she says "are you chesmu? I am sara how are you doing?" purring as she welcomes him
Marupa chuckles, nodding to this, "My name's Marupa." He had heard of Chesmu's 'demotion'. He's witnessed the effects first hand. He sits, shaking his head, "Hey, remember, Chesmu. There're worse things."
Being tactful is definitely the least on Chesmu's mind. Where once there was a proud and friendly male who loved to look after the pride is now a defeated and very angry cat. "Shut up."
Sara nods and says "oh ok I will remember that if I can" turning to chesmu she smiles and says "why you grumpy are you hungry I know when I get hungry I get grumpy mayube you need somethingto eat?" she is being completely friendly and walks up to him with very little caution as if expecting him to be as friendly as marupo
Marupa shoots a glare at Chesmu, "Hey now. That's not very nice." His ears perk at this, and he nods to Sara, before stepping over to Chesmu, "Look at it this way, Chesmu. You're still in a position of a lot more power than I am. He's your /family/. You can talk to him, give him ideas. Heck, even be his mentor in a lot of ways. Something nobody else could. I know he looks up to you, no matter what you've done."
Chesmu is *not in the mood for this. As friendly as Sara is being and how Marupa is trying to console. It is the *last* thing the former Chieftain wants to hear. Quick as lightning, Chesmu flashed the back up his paw right up against Sara's head.
Sara is knocked back and she tears up like a cub not understanding him. she says "why you hit me I did nothing to you" she sniffles and sort of runs behind marupo tail between her legs hiding behind him from the former chieftain as she whimpers
Marupa doesn't strike, but he certainly does everything he can to prevent Chesmu from attacking her again, "Hey!" He glares, "Do that again and you'll be wearing a scar, Chesmu. Just cause you're mad doesn't give you any right to attack someone else." He's between the two now, and right in the line of fire if Chesmu decides to get hostile.
Chesmu could easily get hostile right now. Loss of his position, his honor, his best friend... and then the horrible nightmare showing his mother. "An outsider presumes to tell *me* what to do?!"
Sara whimpers and says "I did not tell you nothing. I only wanted to find some friends to play with" she continues whimpering behind marupo as she hopes he can calm chesmu down
Marupa snorts at Chesmu. "Absolutely!" He paces to one side, then the other, fully aware of Sara's position. Just because he just met her doesn't mean he doesn't care about life. "When you're half out of your mind like this, Chesmu, and raving mad, I have every RIGHT to tell you what to do!" He steps toward him, "I'm bigger, stronger, and not so hot-headed as you are!"
Chesmu yells at Marupa. "Outsider!" Chesmu says. "What would *you* know of honor and duty? Family? You're nothing but a rogue!" Chesmu growls. "And I swear I can take you if you're stupid enough to try to pull something, outsider!"
Marupa's pupils narrow, "Duty? My duty is to protect our race. To let it thrive, to nourish it." He steps forward again, "Honor? The moment I stepped foot on this land, I proved my honor. I waited until I was given YOUR OK to even so much as drink, or eat. If that's not honoring, then what is?" He lifts a paw threateningly to Chesmu, "Family?! I left my lands willingly. I knew my mother well, I know what it is to be the sole caretaker. Do not talk to me about such things." His claws unsheath, but he sets his paw down, "You know I easily outrank you, Chesmu. I've proven that, and have proven that to Tohopka, your brother. Look at what he is becoming."
Sara hears chesmu threats and then suddenly steps to the side of marupa saying "I wont let you hurt my friend" she glares at chesmu defiantly as she now and turns saying once she hears him mention a familliar name "you know tohopka he is so nice I like him he let me ride on his back"
Chesmu narrows his eyes on the female. Tohopka. "My brother?" Chesmu says. He's still irate. He knows it is wrong to take out his anger on innocent cougars. But, strangely, he doesn't care anymore. He only has his son to be proud of. One of his daughters left him, another probably will never trust him again. "Get out of my sight. Both of you."
Marupa shakes his head to Chesmu, "No, Chemu. I will not. You need support. I have offered it, and you have thrown it away again and again. Take it, or kill me." His eyes are still narrowed. He means it. Granted, the latter would be much harder than the former, considering his size and strength.
Sara nods amd says "yeah he waszvery friendly quite the oposite of you. I dont understand how you can be related since he is so nice and you are so mean" looking over at marupa she says "um why are you trying to help him I dont understand he might actually try and hurt you he is a mean cougar"
Chesmu stalks toward Sara now, ignoring Marupa. "Oh...? Perhaps there is less of our dear mother in my brother, Tohopka." Chesmu says. "Or maybe I'm just finally at my limit. I've lost just about everything that matters to me. Perhaps my part in this world now is to deny others the things that I lost. Maybe that's my purpose." Chesmu is now well within striking distance of Sara now. "Maybe I'm supposed to lose everything and become one of the *wretched!* The kind of cougar you hope you never meet!"
Marupa watches Chesmu approach her, and with a huff, he pounces. "I didn't want to do this..." He warns mid-leap. "But you're making yourself miserable, Chesmu! With that attitude, your son will have no choice but to eject you from the lands. That's the one tie you haven't severed yet, Chesmu." Despite leaping toward Chesmu, his teeth, his claws, his rage is not bared. It's a pounce to get him away from Sara.
Sara looks at him and answers "I dont know what you lost but wouldn't it be a bit more constructive to be greatfull for what you have then bitter at what you lost?" she looks at marupa a bit surprised as he pounces chesmu wondering if he needs help she watches trying to think of what to do readying herself to pounce as wellif her friend needs any help
Chesmu leaps at Marupa. Unlike Marupa, he does have claws and teeth bared. With all he has, Chesmi sinks claw and tooth into the first flesh they find.
Marupa knows how to pounce. He doesn't leave his belly vulnerable, so those teeth sink into his shoulder. He grits his teeth. No matter how firmly Chesmu pounces, Marupa outweighs Chesmu....by a lot. Marupa has far more momentum, so it would carry the two. Back for Chesmu, forward for Marupa. Marupa's paw goes for Chesmu's throat, not to crush, but to immobilize.
Sara steps foward ready to strike but since there is not an opening she waits to see if chesmu gets the upper hand if he is imobalized he wont be a threat and she circles the 2 waiting to see if her friend needs help
Chesmu snarls at Marupa. But he is smaller than Marupa and is pinned. He doesn't say anything. Just glares up at the larger male. Outsider.
Marupa settles atop Chesmu. Easier than it should have been. "The Chesmu I knew would have at least put up a fight. What's gotten into you? Got a parasite?" He looks the smaller cat over, "Now, take my advice, and let me help you." His paw is still on the cat's throat, just enough to prove a point.
Sara releaved that marupa seems to be fine she says "chesmuisit maybe you should stop fighting those trying to help you and you may get back some of what you lost what ever that may be"
Chesmu glares up at Chesmu. "I can never get them back. Not my daughter, not my friend, and not my place as Chieftain."
Marupa shakes his head, "No, you cannot /GET/ them back." He leans close, "You have to /earn/ them back. Prove it to them, to me, to everyont that you have changed, Chesmu. Not just forgotten, put it in the past. But that you've made up for it. More than made up for it."
Sara nods and says "bet if you became nice you could get them back. I would be your friend if you became a nice person and so woulda bunch of people and how you lose your daughter?"
Chesmu scoffs. "You don't understand. I did what I did and deserve this. But I don't want stupid mothering or consolation!" Chesmu says. "Make me feel like some lost kitten!"
Marupa laughs at this, slipping off the cougar, "We're not. We're protecting others, and you. You might not belive it, but you're even harming your own son, when you're like this, Chesmu."
Sara looks down at chesmu and then she says "you act like a lost scared kitten. you should be greatfull you have a friend sowilling to help you. maybe you should try and earn those you hurts forgiveness rather then poat cause they aremad at ya"
Chesmu growls and stands up. "Unless you can bring my daughter back, there's nothing you can do."
Marupa shakes his head, "There are things better than that. Look to the future, Chesmu, not the past."
Sara nods and says "if you where nicer to me Iwould have gone and talked to your daughter see if I can change her mind maybe. if you show your daughter you changed maybe you can get her back"
Chesmu sighs. these two really don't understand. Nayeli was completely prepared to leave him behind. And so he was. He finally just shakes his head and starts to walk off.
Marupa shakes his head at Chesmu, "The least you can do is not be so grumpy." He snorts at Chesmu, "For the rest of us."
Sara dighs and says "tell me her name I will talk with her maybe I can get her to talk with you at least but only if you promise to be nice"
Chesmu shakes his head. "You'll never find her. She's gone."
Marupa settles onto his bely again, tapping his tail as he watches, shaking his head to the male.
Sara frowns and says "is she dead?" she fears his answer feeling sort of bad for him lossing a daughter
Chesmu doesn't answer. He just sits, facing away from the duo.
