Scene
Winter is always a fun time of the year, probably one of Cotton's favorite seasons, considering... The female comes back from a long walk, after having spent some time alone to think and lets face it, look for her lad. That morons is just nowhere to be found, and Cotton is now used to the feeling so she doesn't really worry about it. Another scent follows her, but she comes alone pacing through the snow and the now white grass, feels good to be back home.
Tariro is lost in the snow and has been so for quite some time; so long that he's created a tunnel between here and the valley. There once was an opening on one side that let him out, but during his escapade through the snow, some had fallen from the trees above and blocked it. He was now stuck between to cold places.
Well that's always fun, playing with snow. Cotton sees no familiar faces when she gets closer to the Glen. She stays like that for some minutes, her nose twitching and catching the scents nearby. After some time, she lets out a little bark, knowing it's safe so the one following can get closer. In this case a white male appears from the path and starts pacing towards the female, "Been some time since I was here last." Cotton keeps looking around, knowing that her son's scent is not far from here.
Pushing against some of the snow walls as he makes his way through, a part of the tunnel collapses and nearly hits Tariro as he passes. Looking back, he is certainly glad he wasn't caught beneath, but at this rate it didn't matter because he was already buried alive in this tunnel. Back in the glen, or so he thinks, he hears a bark through the snow, or maybe a tree falling or even some snow, and it causes him to jump. A bad idea of course as the tunnel roof caves in and drives him to the ground. "Umph!" Tari lets out.
The stranger wolf keeps pacing towards Cotton, looking from side to side and wondering where the Alphas are, seems they're always away when he comes to this place, at least he knows he'll talk with Silvan! "A whole year, no?" Cotton questions as she paces towards the other wolf, but as soon as she hears her son's voice not far from where she is, she stops her tracks, eyes a bit narrowed and confused... "Tari?" She calls out before walking to where she noise came from, "Baby you ok?" Where is he anyway!
Able to hear from beneath the snow, Tari flicks his ears up through the snow to the sound of his mothers voice. Unable to look up at her though his condition of being buried, he wags his tail, or tries anyway. "Momma! I'm stuck!" he says starting to become cold.
Now that worries every mother, or at least the good mommies! Cotton's ears perk up once hearing her son's call, and without wasting time she hurries to Tari's location, "Oh Tari..." Killed by snow, now that would be for the record. The female starts using her paws to help his son go free, digging and kicking the snow out of the place, "Hold still baby." The other male also joins Cotton, on the opposite way... A bit surprised to see the little wolf there.
Killed by snow, that was the least of their worries... though he'd rather be out then actually have it happen. Laying there, his fur soaking through, he looks up just as the snow begins to become moved from his body. Noticing that there is another wolf in the area, and helping, Taro blinks in curiosity. Who is that, he wonders before looking back to his mother.
The other wolf moves out of the way once the pup has enough space to go free. Cotton on the other paw noses and licks her son's forehead. Silly pup, always worrying mom, "You ok baby?" The female asks with a gentle tone, trying to help him get up from the deadly snow trap. The white wolf lowers his head, still looking at the other male, almost the same expression on his face.
Tariro lays there for a moment longer before he stands near freezing. Shaking her coat out of excess snow; his white coat not change much color; he noddles. "Yea. I'm fine. That was nothing." He wasn't going to let some white stuff take him down, not yet anyway. Nuzzling up against his mother, the stranger wolf is forgotten for the time being.
Cottonpaws nods slowly at her son, she's glad the little prick is ok. Cotton gives him another lick on the forehead, in the usual motherly way, "You should be more careful, baby, ok? Remember what dad told you the other day, snow IS dangerous all the time." She hates repeating things, and likely her son hates that too, but just like mom did with Cotton, it's her turn to be repetitive! Once the younger wolf is ok, the other white wolf sits on his haunches, looking between the others, smiling.
Daddy told him stuff, he doesn't remember that... Tariro shrugs, oh well. Hearing it from his mother this time, he nods though doesn't look like he's paying much attention to it. All he says is "Ok momma." before nuzzling her again.
Ok, he's ok! If he says so. Just to make sure, Cotton reaches a paw to drag her son closer, not asking when she makes him press against her chest so he doesn't get cold! Head lowered to keep nuzzling her son's forehead over and over, "He looks a lot like his father." The stranger dares to say, keeping his eyes on the younger wolf. Cotton looks for a moment at the other wolf, "Tari? I want you to meet a friend of mom, his name is Seven." ha!
Tariro acks when he is pulled in closer, though takes the warmth that comes with it like it were the best thing ever. When hearing the stranger wold speak on how he looked like his father, Tari's ears go back looking over to the older white wolf. When his mother speaks, he looks up then back over to the wolf with a tilted head.
The stranger nods slowly at the younger male, "Nice to meet you Tariro." He seems to know a lot about the pups, at least from the stories he's heard from Cotton. He doesn't get closer though, not sure if he's even allowed to so he keeps his distance. Cotton bumps her son's head with her nose, he's talkative for the most part, but seems Tari is out of words now.
Talkative yes, around his family, but is a mute when around others he doesn't know. Looking at the wolf, he blinks. Not afraid of the stranger, he just step out from his mother when bumped on the head.
There's silence for some time... Nice. The stranger clears his throat all of a sudden, standing up and turning around, "I'll try to get some food, see if I can find your mother or your dad on my way down." Cotton doesn't stop him, she instead looks down at her son, nudging his shoulder with one paw and really curious as to why her talkative Tari is so shy all of a sudden.
Tariro still doesn't say anything, he just stands there till the stranger wolf starts to walk off. Following after him for a few steps, he stops tilting his head one direction, then the other.
Cottonpaws is about to stop her son, but she too stays standing and keeping an eye on the two males ahead of her, "Hun?" She whispers to her son as the other male starts humming as usual, following the path and unaware of the others.
Tariro perks and ear and looks back over to his mom. "What momma?" Turning around to face her, he walks up to her front and looks up.
Cottonpaws stands a few inches away from her son, looking down at him for a second before quickly glancing at the other male's direction, then back down at her son again, "You're liking your first Winter so far?" She loves Winter, but still. Just curious what her son thinks about the snow.
Tariro blinks at her for a moment then turns out toward the whiteness called snow. He wouldn't really say that he's liking his first winter, but he doesn't exactly hate it either. Getting lost in the snow has been fun, even the time he and Shag were suppose to try and get ride of it all. Though he's not much into the whole freezing portion. "Its ok. But I'm cold."
Cottonpaws winces a bit, "I know baby..." She hates it because of the cold weather to be honest, specially when her pillow is not around to keep her warm during these cold nights. Cotton cuddles closer to her son, nuzzling his face with her own as she chuckles, "It'll be over soon. Just be careful while its still snowing hun." The female lays down on her stomach, leaned to a side and giving her son some space.
Be careful while its still knowing... wheres the fun in that. Tariro doesn't think he can be careful around all this stuff. Slippery ground, falling snow from trees, its just asking him to run out and cause some trouble or pain... or whatever. Giving a nod upward anyhow, he'll just have to do his best to be careful. Telling back as his mom lays down, he steps forward when a spot open up next to her. A warm spot, finally; he doesn't hesitate to occupy it.
Cottonpaws lifts one forepaw as her son gets closer, then warmly embraces him against her side. He's so messy, all that snow. Grooming time! "What you been up to all this time hun?" She hardly sees him during this season, being away from home on her patrols and all that, so she's curious! AS she lets her son likely answer the question, she starts grooming his face, licking and nipping here and there.
At this point, Tariro doesn't really care what happens to him; he was cold and being close to mom, her licking... as long as he was warm she could do whatever to him. Turning his ears back as she does start licking him though, he waits till he's face isn't being occupied by a tongue before answer. "I've been playing in the snow with Shag." Ya, the brother who doesn't do anything but complain. "We tried moving all the snow but there was to much, so he said we should get everyone to help, but there was no one around." He goes on about how they eventually gave up and then went to find Snowtip but she was like missing. "Then Shag got tired and I was alone." he frowns. "I then got stuck in that tunnel and couldn't get out. I thought I'd be in there forever."
Ok, that definitely doesn't sound good. Her son stuck in the snow for Luna knows how long, at least she knows he's not hurt or anything, unless he's lying, pups do that often! Cotton continues her grooming as she listens to her son, a bit worried. She's been missing this kind of things, what if one of them gets hurt? She tries not to worry though, "Good thing mom rescued you, huh?" She says with a chuckle, stopping the grooming to look into her son's eyes, "You're my adventurous little pup... Just like you father, you know that?"
Tariro chuckles at his mother. "Yea, but I could of gotten out myself." Eventually, when the snow stated to melt. "No snow is gonna win against me." That's what he said about the leaf and he lost a number of times. Pesky allies... they will fall to him one of these days. "I'll show it who's boss the next time it tries to fall on me." he chuckles. He then perks an ear to the notion of being like dad. "I never go far. I gotta protect mom from the bad things." He may be small, but his got a big heart.
The mother almost melts when she hears her son say such a thing, ears flattening a bit as her smile grows wider. She feels like giving her son a good advice on how to beat leaves and branches, but she can't just ignore his second statement. Dad once said something like that, and now look at him, always away.. "And you do a wonderful job, baby." The mother can proudly say, nuzzling his cheek, "And mom's proud of it."
Dad may always be away, but that's him. Tari wasn't his dad, he was himself. Nuzzling his momma back he doesn't say a word this time. He made mommy happy and that makes him happy.
A mother couldn't feel better having a child such as Cotton's, proud of him, and happy... So darn happy that she feels her eyes go watery as she keeps nuzzling him. It's almost been a year since she was a mother, time flies, "Have... You been eating well?" Random, she knows.
Now she brings up food, doesn't she know that talking about food makes him hungry. Tari hasn't eaten in a while actually and could use some but doesn't say anything to break the moment they share with each other. So instead he says something like, "I've been eaten snow." It was the only eatable thing he could find with no one else around to supply something else.
Eating snow, now that's something Cotton, as mother, didn't want to hear... The female nods slowly anyway, "Seven will bring some food, if not I'll go get you some in the morning, ok?" First it's snow that almost kills her son, then he'll starve to death? No way, Cotton would never allow that to happen!
If one thing doesn't kill him there's surely another that will. Tariro doesn't just go out looking for trouble, it comes to him and sometimes can't help but give it a big ol' hug. Looking to his mother, he frowns seeing that she's not to pleased with his response. He didn't see anything wrong with eating the snow, it filled him up even though it had its disadvantages. Nodding, he wasn't sure about taking food from someone he didn't know despite the fact mom know him. He was alright with mom getting the food though. "What do you think he'll bring back?" Tari didn't know what kind of food could be found in the winter.
Cottonpaws hmmms at the question, her gaze wanders to the path down the valley as she thinks about it. Last time he brought bunnies, a year ago when she was inside the den. Right now, she's not sure, the white wolf is getting old, but she still doesn't doubt his abilities, "I don't know baby... Hopefully deer or something so we can fill that big belly of yours." Not calling him fat, just noting that he eats a damn lot.
Tariro grins at her comment about him. He did have a big belly, but he was a growing boy and needed to eat all he could. "You really think so..." He hoped so. He's never really had deer, and if it turned out to be something else, we'll he'd get over it. Food was food to him wither it was bad, old, big or small; he didn't care. Giving his mom a big smile he says, "I hope he brings back something real big." He measure it out with his paws. "Like this." He's paws only able to go so far, he smirks knowing mom knows what he means.
Mom knows what her son means... But she's thinking of something bigger anyway! She's starving too, so... Cotton reaches her paw to a side to make the distance his son was using a example to look bigger, smiling down at him, "I know he'll try... He's always trying to impress your grandparents, so he will get something big or at least real tasty. Like squirrels!" She loves those, so tender and squeaky!
Tariro looks at the measurement of his own paws grow larger as his mother joins in with her own. He chuckles before nodding thinking that to be the biggest thing his ever seen. He can't wait his so excited. Tilting his head to his mother he blinks; a squirrel.. what is that. This kid sure has a lot to learn. "Are squirrels this big?" he notions to the desired kill size.
Cottonpaws shakes her head, letting a hearted chuckle escape her while nosing his forehead, "No, they're actually small, but quite tasty!" Rather tasty indeed. And difficult to catch, always lingering on the tall branches of the trees, Cotton must admit she's only been able to catch a few, smart little critters, "I'll catch you one someday, promise."
When said to be small, Tariro moves his paws together to show size and frowns. He didn't want anything small, he wanted something big. He moves his paws back out - like this. Though if his mother said they were tasty he might give them a try... might. Nodding upward he says, "Okay." Then wonders if squirrels where fun to play with but doesn't ask; he's got plenty of things to play with right now its hard to keep track.
Cottonpaws puts her paw down again, resting on her side now and dragging her son again closer to her chest, she takes a good look at him, he's changed a lot, and only in one year. It's almost like a dream, seeing him get so big in such short period of time. The mother goes silent as she examines her son, just smiling and letting her eyes wander all over her son's form, his eyes, cheeks, ears, paws, everything. He's just far from what she excepted when she first felt those kicks inside her belly.
Tariro falls against his mother as she rolls to her side to rest; being pulling closer to him sends a 'eek' like sound into the air. Blinking at her, as she looks at him in inspection he head tilts as his mind tics wondering why she's looking at him in such a fashion. "Something the matter momma?" he asks trying to get to the bottom of his curiosity.
Cottonpaws keeps staring at her son, her ears perking up slowly once his voice makes her fur tickle her ears. A slow shake of her heads tells that there's nothing wrong, yet her words tell a whole different tale, "I'm just thinking that I'm a very lucky mother for having a healthy and good looking son like you. You make mom proud and happy."
Tariro smiles childishly at his mother, not picking up the hint in her voice. Swishing his tail, he curls up against his mothers side then giving a nuzzle. "Your always thinking that." But it was true right, she wouldn't just say that to make him feel good would she? He didn't question this to her, as he rolled over onto his back and looked up at her. "I make you any thing else?"
Cottonpaws chuckles at her son, not only returning the nuzzle, but giving him more and more of thse mommy nuzzling! "You make me think a lot of things, baby... That what sons and daughters do, thoughts, worries, happiness, everything... You'll understand one day." She is not sure if he ever will, but she never knew what her mother meant about the exact words she just told her son, but now she knows what Silver tried to say that day.
Tariro looks at her rather puzzled at what she was saying. He didn't know the meaning behind her words and likely wouldn't for a long time. Giving her that 'yea, I understand' look, he giggles to all the nuzzling. Reaching up with a paw moments later, he pats at his mother out of boredom.
Cottonpaws refuses to let her son push her face away from the nuzzling, so she just keeps leaning her head at his until she's licking at his ears, humming softly as she used to do when her pups were younger. Just glad she's with them and they're fine, as moronic as they can be getting almost killed by terrible snow! She still loves them.
Tariro gives up on the batting, and just lays there on his back looking up eyes half lidded. Her humming is actually putting him to sleep, and no matter how hard he tries to remain awake his eyes eventually wind up closed.
Cottonpaws keeps humming, keeping an eye on her son and the way he reacts to her humming. Just like she planned. Her tone is gentle, the old song someone taught her and helped her sleep when she was younger. Her affection turns to just a light nosing on his cheek, waiting for him to fall asleep with his mother.
It didn't take long for Tariro to be found asleep. The nosing to his cheek not really felt as he rolls over to his side, sprawling out very much like one would on a hot and sunny day.

Winter is always a fun time of the year, probably one of Cotton's favorite seasons, considering... The female comes back from a long walk, after having spent some time alone to think and lets face it, look for her lad.
The female starts using her paws to help his son go free, digging and kicking the snow out of the place, "Hold still baby." Who is that, he wonders before looking back to his mother.
