Styx, male wolf
Shade, female dog
Only a mere couple of hours since his encounter with the lynx, Styx is already heading towards the farmlands. Tamaharus' riddle-woven brainwashing was successful on the former beta, his talk of destruction and death having a major effect on the former beta's infected brain. Even though the fatal bite from the bat occurred only a couple of days ago, it's already making its way through his system, affecting everything about the wolf for the worse. He weaves slightly as he makes his way along the bank of the river, pausing every few minutes to drink fervently at the water's surface, vainly trying to quench the unquenchable. His amber-green eyes turn lazily towards the north, nose twitching as he senses the abominable scent of his pathetic excuses for cousins - the dogs who would protect such an evil one as Man.
Shade has meandered out of the woods to seek to quench her own thirst. She has the misfortune of being upwind from the wolf as he heads through the area, and so she drinks calmly and casually, unworried and largely unconcerned. There are few animals in these woods who would bother her.
Unfortunately for Shade, Styx is one of those few. His nose twitches as a new scent meanders through the air, catching his attentions - especially since it's not that of a wolf. His muzzle lifts from the water, swiveling slowly towards the stranger. No, this is a dog. And in his current state of mind, every dog is corrupt, domesticated or not. Turning towards the feral canine, Styx stalks after her, head low, saliva dripping steadily from his maw. He says nothing as of yet, merely watching her intently as he pads closer.
Shade's tail swishes lightly over her heels as she drinks heartily from the brook. It's been a while since she's had a nice long drink, and she's enjoying it. She flicks an ear at an odd feeling, her hackles rising as the sensation of being watched grows. She rumbles, lifting her head to peer about, sniffing the air, not seeing Styx just yet.
The minor signs of hostility exhibited by Shade are magnified in Styx's mind, eliciting a menacing growl of his own in response, and effectively giving away his position. Seconds later, he emerges out into a treeless patch of land, only a few feet away from the dog. "You dare to attempt to threaten me, you pathetic bitch? I am the Great Destroyer," the wolf calls out, using the name picked up from the earlier conversation with the 'hunter-demon'/lynx. His nose twitches, picking up a scent that reminds him of the encounter with the rival mountain pack a few days earlier.
Shade blinks, jumping as the wolf just seems to appear. She cowers instinctively, ears splayed and tail low, though it's only for a moment, posture straightening and tail snapping up, ears perking. She growls lightly. "I hadn't threatened you, beast, but I do now. Back off.." She trails off, eyes widening and all of her pomp fading away as she gets a good wind of him. Oh gods, he's got the sickness...a faint, strangled whimper escapes her and she takes a step back.
Something flares up within Styx as the dog cowers before him, almost grinning at the sight. But then Shade gets a little cocky with him. With a snarl, he bounds before her, baring his sickly-glistening fangs in an ugly sneer. "You will regret those words, bitch. I will make sure of it," he hisses lethally. The closer proximity to the female gives him a much better whiff of her pheromones, and Styx actually does grin this time around, almost reverting to his former, healthy state in his behavior. "Well...it seems the bitch /wants/ to be taught a lesson. Can't get it good enough from those weak Man-followers, so you come out here looking for a wolf to give it to you proper, isn't that right?" he taunts, beginning to pace around her. "Lucky for you you're not a stud, or else you wouldn't have the choice I'm about to give you. So, whaddya want, dog? Life...or death?" he inquires sadistically, his innuendos making it quite clear that the 'life' option isn't quite as simple as she'd like it to be.
Shade takes another step back, terror rising up in her. She growls deep and low in her throat, eyes wide, darting about as she searches for some method of escape, somewhere she can run. She tries to start edging away from the water, back toward the trees...maybe if she can just get enough room to bolt into a dead run, she can get away. "Either way...you'll bite me, and I'm dead anyway..."
"Oh no, sweetheart...I'll only bite if you want me to," Styx replies with a lecherous grin, before his facade suddenly shifts to another extreme. "Or if you piss me off. So I'd suggest doing exactly as I want you to do, and not making this any more difficult than it already is, okay? That includes trying anything stupid," he spits, bringing his muzzle close enough to her head that he could easily bite should she try to run away. "So then, what's your choice?" he repeats, wanting her to sentence herself for his own sadistic pleasure.
Shade whimpers softly, backing away slowly until her foot touches the icy stream water. She flinches, glancing back quickly, then up at Styx once more. She recoils into herself, making herself smaller. "Y-you don't want me...I'm just a dog..just a mangy human-raised dog...surely a b-big strong wolf like yourself could find a pretty wolf lady to satisfy his n-needs..."
"I could have any pretty wolf lady I wanted," Styx snaps back - a blatant lie to anyone else who knew him, but the hardcore truth in his own mind. "But you are a corrupt Man-protector, by your own admittance no less, and you need to be punished for your actions. And I have thus asked you...what. is. your. choice?!" he roars, about to make it for her if she doesn't decide soon.
Shade ends up cowering on her belly, trembling lightly, her heart pounding. "Y-you won't bite me...? You swear?" as if his word could be trusted. She swallows, vision blurring faintly. It wasn't supposed to be this way...not this way...no...
Styx grins wickedly at her response. "Cross my heart and hope to die," he leans down to murmur in a pseudo-soothing tone. "Now get up."
Shade closes her eyes, slowly rising to her feet, heart thundering, then lifts her terrified gaze to the wolf. Not like this...not like this...
...
Finally slipping off the feral bitch after what must seem like forever, Styx pads a few steps back just in case she retaliates, but not leaving just yet. Oh no, he's going to get in another taunt or two before he abandons her for bigger and better things. He's got a farm to raid. "Now then, have you learned your le--" CRACK. The sound of a gunshot echoes loudly throughout the entire forest, sending birds and other animals fleeing frantically in every direction. Fortunately for Shade, she was behind a tree enough to be hidden from the farmer's point of view. Styx has only enough time to look down and see the crimson stain spreading along the fur on his chest before he falls to the ground, dead.
Shade steps away from him as soon as she's able, tail tucking between her legs as if to prevent any further invasions. She whirls to face him, unwilling to keep her back to him now. She looks, and feels, absolutely miserable. She sees the explosion of blood before she registers the gunshot, eyes widening in disbelief. She knows that sound, she knows...and with the startling sound of the gunshot ringing in her ears, she turns and bolts away, away away...upriver and into the trees. Not like this...not like this...over and over she repeats in her head.
