Goodbye barnyard. Good riddance /cats/. Hello new home! The move away from the familiar farmhouse and barn is, unsurprisingly enough, met with optimism from Allegro who has travelled this whole way in good spirits. And now, the pack is settling within the brambles of the thicket, and the shepherd mix is exploring this new place. With his nose to the ground, he snuffles around, taking in the scents, scowling only briefly as his fur is caught every now and again in thorns. His tail sways from side to side, and he pauses once with a paw held slightly above the ground. Wolf scent. Old. And so he relaxes again and begins to murmur a song. "There was a tree. Was a pretty lil' tree..."
While Allegro may be happy, Jette was still all nerves. The leader hadn't relaxed since they got to the thicket, nervously marking /everything/ on the borders of the thicket, just incase something didn't get the hint to keep the hell away. His fur was mildly bristled along his spine though his feature had relaxed at least in the time they'd been here. As most of the pack had begun to settle down the Sienne leader had watched Allegro happily sniff around, the other managing to get a mildly amused smile from the large male.
Allegro lifts his head and gives a last look towards the south before he smirks and turns around, trotting in the general direction of the nervous Jette. "All's clear, chief," he says with a crooked grin. "You're tenser'n a cat caught up a tree b'hind a pack've hounds that ain't ate in a week.. Things smell alright ta me, though now..." he takes in another soft breath, "all I'm smellin' is a lot of you." He grins good-naturedly and gently headbumps the alpha male.
Jette dips his muzzle greatfully to Allegro and finally relaxes faintly, a sheepish smile covering his face, "Eh.. sorry about that. Can't be to careful.." Jette laughs faintly before eyeing the resting pack curiously, his tail thumping the soil once happily. "I'll relax.. I just worry too much. As long as everyone is ok and made it here safely then I'll survive. I'm just so used to being around the farmstead I forgot what it was like to be out in the open.. well.. semi-open. I picked this place because it was semi-secluded," he chuckles.
"Mm. Kinda nice lookin', too," Allegro adds with a look around the thicket. "I mean, s'always a lil' easier t'stick around in a place if it's easy on the eyes. It ain't the worse place I ever seen. Figure you done picked good," he compliments as he plants his hindquarters down so that he can lift a backleg to scratch at his flopped ear. "An' yeah, you do worry too much. You've got to be the most worrisome dog I ever met!" he chuckles as he lowers his paw. "But I figure it's for good reason." He smirks, and his head slightly cocks to one side. "So uh ... you 'n Moose, huh?"
Jette nods approvingly as he glances around the thicket as well. Ears twitching, "There's always a reason.. unfourtunately," he laughs. Jette lets a slow sigh escape him, relaxing a little bit more before he wiggles his nose, "Do you smell foxes.." its a random thought, an ear twitching before Allegro's question grabs his attention and Jette's ears twitch back. "Uhm.. It's not like that.." he rummbles softly. The male's eyes twitch elsewhere and Jette clears his throat faintly, "It wasn't planned.. and it's not something that means anything concrete.." meaning while he'll love his pups dearly, Alsoomse wasn't his mate and it would most likely not happen again.
The willow thicket is a large place, specifically chosen by the dog pack for being secluded, having places to hide. That is also why Inali and Takata had chosen it for a place to rest not a few hours before. The pack were a decent ways away from them, but they made plenty commotion to wake Inali up. Was it premature for her to leave Harper's den? Especially when she knew she had no other place to go? Needless to say, the vixen is utterly mortified to find that nearly a dozen dogs lay anywhere within an earshot of her, as nicely concealed as her and Takata were. She nudges the other fox awake. "Time to go," she whispers breathlessly, and starts to slink her way slowly from site. Takata herself is quick to follow.
"Fox?" Allegro lifts his head and sniffs the air again. "Yeah, think so. Think they're still around?" he smirks a little, eyes momentarily roaming, but his attention soon returns to Jette as he answers his question. "Oh.." is his brilliant answer to that, and for a while there's nothing more than that. For a while anyay, but eventually he does speak again. "So she ain't like ... a second in command or nothin' like that? Not a head female or nothin' like that?" He quirks a brow as he watches him, a vaguely anxious look in his eyes. His ear twitches to the side though, catching a sound of movement. Or .. maybe it was just a rustle of the trees?
The movement gets a glance and Jette eyes the shadows cautiously, his figure tensing again as he stares into the shadows with a deep unwelcoming glare. Allegro's question drags the Sienna leader from his warning glare to the darkness and he blinks a few times, "Alsoomse? Alsoomse in my eyes is Beta, along with Kole. As far as head female goes.." Jette snorts, "She may believe she is, and until I have another to proove her wrong she may continue to think so. Whatever sedates that temper of hers.." he murmurs, getting distracted once more by the rustling however sparing a smirk to Allegro.
Listening has always been a strong point for the lab mutt. Surii was awake but just listening to the conversation between the leader and Allegro. Opening her eyes she can't help but sigh as the males talk about Alsoomse. It seems she is the top female around here. Pushing her form up with a stretch she doesn't even glance towards the males before settling to her haunches and having a light scratch behind her ear.
Allegro seems to visibly relax as Jette speaks, and his shoulders droop a little as exhales a slow breath. "Oh... Oh, good." He grins a bit and elevates his chin a bit. "I don' think she cares for me too much. Now, I get the feelin' she feels the same about .. most everybody else, but me especially. Didn't want her to go kickin' me out or anything, if she had that kinda ... er, power." He wrinkles his nose a bit, though soon fixes the other male with a freshly curious look. "You got another female in mind?" he asks nosily, a grin beginning to curve his muzzle. But he's not obvlivious to Surii's awakening, and the female is greeted with a grin. "'Ey."
The rustle of the trees? Maybe, maybe. Inali and Takata had woken uncomfortably close to the dogs, but uncomfortably close would really be any distance at all. They aren't /too/ close, and foxes are quite adapt at sneaking -- but, perhaps, dogs are adept at listening as well. Inali cringes every time one of her footfalls make a soft crinkle against the brush. In any case the thicket is too tall and thick for them to be seen. Their smell is still the best indication that they are around -- or were very recently -- but it would take an active search to pinpoint them. Inali hopes they are simply too distracted by whatever dogs seem to talk about as she weaves her way through the brush with Takata on her tail.
He thinks he's spied something in the shadows but before he can decide to investigate his attention is stolen by ALlegro once more and he grunts, "You'd be surprised how Alsoomse feels about certain individuals.. don't be too quick to assume she dislikes you so greatly." The Sienna leader leave it at that. However when Allegro questions him about having a female in mind his ears could pinkin somewhat as Surii's wakefulness drags his attention. The female is given a few quick thuds of his tail and his maw splits in a wide smile, "Evening Surii.. sleep ok after the trip?" Allegro's question is left unanswered, at least in verbal form anyway.
Surii wasn't overly sure about anything here. Turning her head as she is recognized the lab mutt pushes up into a stretch. For a moment she looks at Allegro dipping her head to him before also glancing back to Jette with a light smirk, "Oh please don't /not/ answer the question because I am awake." her tail sways back and forth behind her, "But yes... I finally did manage to get some rest."
Allegro snorts a little though does give Jette's advice a nod, although it's likely that he highly doubts it. "Yeah, we'll see 'bout that," he says with a chuckle and shake of his head. His ear turns to Surii again, though his eyes linger on the alpha dog for a moment longer before they too turn towards the awakened female. "Should be happy, eh Surii? No more mice," he chortles. "'Least ... none I've seen yet. She tell ya how we done run off a wolf?" The latter is directed towards Jette. "Was a lil' while back."
Inali breathes a sigh of relief. She had frozen in fear when one of the dogs seemed to look her way, but they all seemed to have returned to their conversation. She turns around again and continues on her way, pace quickening little by little with every tail-length she went from them, before she finally makes it out of the thicket, the two foxes disappearing for good from this place behind a thin scattering of trees.
Inali and Takata have left.
He smirks at Surii faintly before clearing his throat and dismissing her jest. He shall not answer this question, remain ALoof! Gaze flits to Allegro and the male nods his head, "Yes she did, which reminds me.." Attention shifts back to Surii and he fixes her with an almost strained look, brows furrowing thoughtfully. "Surii I met someone.. when I scouted this land and found Dahlia. He.. knows you.." He watches her faintly. He had debated not telling her but he knew that the male couldn't just move on without seeing his daughter, no matter how much he tried to.
Surii turns to fully face Jette, "Who?" she asks lifting a brow. There wasn't that many that knew her other than the pack. For a moment she looks over to Allegro before returning her gaze towards the pack leader, "You met someone that knows me?" Taking this in a moment she wondered about the word 'he' and she backs up a step waiting his answer.
Allegro rises to his paws now after eyeing Jette's look. This seems serious! Or .. perhaps not serious, but something far more thought-provoking than his wolf-chasing whopper of a tale was going to be. And so, after flashing a smirk to Surii, he moves off to the near perimeter to investigate that noise he heard, while giving them space. His tail waves once as his head lowers to sniff around the area again, picking up the distinct aroma of fresh fox. "Dang it..." murmured to himself as his eyes peer ahead in the direction that the fox ... ah, foxes must've snuck off. There went a good chase! But meanwhile, one ear turns toards Jette and Surii, listening.
The male sighs gingerly, "His name was Rafe.. he said he was your father.." He watches her silently for any signs of anger, sadness, happiness. "He knows where you are and I told him where we were going," he quickly mentions after, his ears twitching back a few degrees.
Surii backs up a few more paces and turning to dash away she runs into Allegro. Then just as quickly darts away to the other side of the thicket. "Dad..." she keeps her back to both of them a moment. He sent her away because he thought he may hold her up just to appear. Looking towards the exit, "I.. Have to go back and find him! I wouldn't have left if I knew... Why didn't you tell me sooner!" she looks over at Jette with a light snap, "There is some crazy wolf running around and he can't protect himself! Why did you wait until now!?!!?!"
Ack, oof! Allegro's ears fall back as he tries to skitter away from the suddenly near Surii, but he doesn't move quickly enough to avoid the collision. His hindquarters squat down as he backpedals a foot or so, managing to keep his balance as he stares bewilderedly at the distraught female. "'Ey, ey... don' worry. Your pa's a dog, ain't he? And that wolf we saw looked near dead anyway. S'prolly done keeled over already," he says reassuringly, glancing towards Jette. "You ain't got nothin' to worry about, Surii. Bet your pa's already on our trail, if he's got it in mind to come along."
The females outburst is taken with a grain of salt as Jette simply stares at her helplessly. "I can't force your father to stay where he was, and I apologize but I've had the issue of relocating an entire pack on my mind," his tone is rather stern though he attempts to smother it, he couldn't blame her for her reaction. "He was back towards the Countryside, I'm sure he's close by Surii.." His mouth opens and closes, "I'll go find him.." he offers helplessly, the Sienna leader looking rather pathetic as he looks to the female, eyes worried. Were he a different leader, he would have snapped her head off for such an outburst, were she a different female, Jette just may have. Instead he stands, half moving towards the direction of the countryside and half hesitating uncertainly.
Surii ears flatten and she heads over towards Jette, "No... Don't...." Looking down at her paws she sighs deeply, "He wouldn't want that.. I'm sure he will be alright." Lifting her head she looks towards the exit with a worried look dancing within her eyes, "He made it this far and I'm sure if he wants to come. Then he will make it here too." The lab mutt looks back to the leader a moment, "I'm sorry..." she says turning to walk to a place and lay down curling into a ball, "I just can't lose him to a wolf too. Not like mom."
Silence radiates from Allegro as he looks back and forth between the two as they both talk. His eyes linger on Jette as he speaks of going off to find this unknown papa dog in the countryside, then flit to Surii at her answer. His paws figit slightly, looking as if he'll follow after Jette if the large dog decides to head off on a hunt. Gradually, he begins to settle, and he faintly furrows his brows as Surii curls up. Ears folding back a bit, he steps towards her, though hesitates as he looks to Jette again. "You're right, y'know. He done went and made it this far. He ain't gonna be fallin' to no wolf notime soon," he offers with a marginal grin.
Jette pauses helplessly as he watches her, unsure exactly of what to do. He glances to Allegro, almost pleadingly for help, before he nods his head, "Your father seemed like a very resourceful dog Surii.. I doubt he'll let anything come between him and his daughter." When she mentions her mother the Sienna leader slowly approaches the female and presses his muzzle to the spot atop her head between her ears. He leaves it there for a moment before he looks to Allegro and flicks an ear, "I'm going to take first watch.." He was getting jittery again, however this time it may not be just due to the move. He moves off towards the border of the thicket, tail twitching behind him as he goes. Maybe some alone time and fresh air will calm his nerves, or maybe he's slinking off into the darkness to figure out just exactly where her father was.
Surii watches as he goes, "Be safe.." she says lightly. Lifting her head she uncurls and pushes to her paws. "Wait!" she quickly goes after the leader blocking him very briefly. The lab mutt then nuzzles, "Thank you for telling me." the dog smiles lightly then steps aside her tail swaying back and forth gently. Though after a moment she looks towards the border of the thicket perhaps saying a silent prayer for her father to make it and hope he's not too stubborn to come see her.
Help? Doesn't look as if Jette needs any help to me! Allegro, again, falls silent, perhaps at a loss as to how he can contribute, or coming to the conclusion that his contribution really isn't needed right now. His head lowers slightly as he nods to Jette as he speaks of taking first watch, and he only watches as Surii approaches to speak to and thank the larger male. An ear turns to the side, listening to the sounds of the nearby woods before he moves in that direction, though seemingly only to find a spot to settle himself.
Jette has left.
Surii watches as Jette heads off to do his patrol. The lab mutt stared out for a moment perhaps wishing she could have acted a little better. Turning to walk back deeper into the thicket she comes to a pause to glance at Allegro, "Sorry for running into you." she tells him before settling to her haunches. "I can't believe my father is all the way out here. I guess he's stronger than I thought. Obviously his paw didn't stop him from trying."
Allegro has lain himself upon the ground with his forepaws crossed. His head lowers to rest upon his paws, and his ears are laid back in what is, or what's supposed to be, a cool expression. "Hm?" said in response to her, glancing her way. "Oh. Figured your senses were better'n that, but I guess I can forgive ya this once." He turns his head from her to rest his cheek on his paws instead, eyes half-lidding. "So what's the big deal?"
"A long time ago my family was attacked by a wolf. My dad did his best to protect my mom but she died." her ears flatten against her skull. Surii sighs shaking her head, "Nevermind you don't want to hear my problems." pushing back up she walks further and then finally lays down stretching to her side though still very much awake.
"How do you know what I want?" asks Allegro a bit suddenly, a brow quirked as he lifts his head and turns it towards her. His ears lift marginally before they push back again. His expression relaxes again as he rolls a shoulder. "If you don' want to talk about it, s'up to you. We all got our problems," said as he settles his chin back down on his paws, though he keeps his attention on her this time. "Figure they'll all come out sooner or later if we stick together like this."
Surii nods her head, "My dad managed to throw the wolf down a hill. Not sure what happened to it but my mom didn't survive. Dad had to live with a badly hurt paw which makes him limp." Looking to her own paws a moment, "I wanted to travel with him but he insisted I go. Said that he didn't want to hold me back or be a burden." Smacking a paw to the ground, "How can protecting one you love be a burden?"
Limping dog that probably looks a little like Surii. Got it. Allegro stores this information away, along with the details of her past, in silence, though he seems to be avidly listening. "S'why you were so keen on helpin' chase of that wolf we saw, eh?" he supposes as he eases himself up to a sitting position. "An' ..now, I ain't no daddy dog or nothin' like Jette's fixin' to be, but I figure your pa, with his lame paw and all, didn' want to hold ya back cuz you're his pup. Bet he thought that he'd be .. slow an' wouldn't be a help in huntin' or anything. That's a burden."
"A wolf /killed/ my mother! Why wouldn't I want to chase the stupid thing away?" she frowns looking over to him. Surii cna't help but sometimes wonder if the shepard is a few bones short of a pile. Once he mentions about Jette becoming a dad she cna't help but sigh a little. Assuming he may want to grow closer to the mother of those pups, "I know he wanted what is best for me but still... I hope he get spast being stubborn enough to at least come say hey to me."
"Yes, that's what I meant by that," Allegro answers slowly, making his words exceptionally clear. He eyes her as if she's the one a few bones short. His head slightly cants at her exhale, and his brows furrow in a vague note of question. But that's all there is before his chest lifts and falls with a silent exhale before he stands. "Yeah," offered distractedly as he stands, glancing off in the direction that Jette went. His head lowers until it is in line with his shoulderblades, expression darkening at something unseen. "Catch you later," are his lackluster words of departure before he stalks off in the opposite direction, moving further into and through the thicket without further word or explanation.
