Characters:
Clay - The batty, conceited stallion
Ooljee - The mare who got dragged along in all this
Location: Woodland Clearing
With evening settling over the forest Ooljee is making her way through the clearing, her gaze drifting over the area while she nikkers out faintly. Her head shakes a moment before she tilts her head as she stands in the middle of the clearing. Her ears perk and she listions faintly to the bugs and birds that are awake now before she starts to move on through the area.
Clay has been trampling around in the woods all day, investigating the smells and sights, and not being particularly careful about it. Why should he? As far as the stallion is concerned, he *owns* this forest now. His short fur is laced with thorns and chips of bark, and his mane doesn't look much better. Thankfully, he's not a vain horse... *most* of the time. Right now, though, he's not concerned with how he looks. He's interested in checking out the clearing. It's always feels like there's just /one more/ thing to discover. Like that little hollow under a tree root that must hold a family of rabbits, or that owl sitting on a branch high above them. He's like a little colt again.
Ooljee moves onwards through the clearing, and it doesn't take long for her to catch sight of Clay. She looks amused at the sight of him too. A faint whinny escapes her so she can get his attetion while she starts to move on to where he is. "Well hello there."
Clay looks this way and that, then finally stops at Ooljee, his amber eyes sparkling with callow enthusiasm. "Evening!" He greets, then is instantly off chattering. "It's so incredible here. I can't believe all the things I've found." He lowers his head to sniff at a fern. "I should have come here sooner. You think this would be a good place to raise a herd?"
Ooljee blinks and chuckles while grinning, she shakes her head slightly. "Your silly." Is said with a happy tone while her tail flicks around. "Well.. I suppose its possible." This said while she glances around slightly before she leans over to nose at his neck. "Though I figured horses would want to be in the open more."
Oh wait, that's true, isn't it? Clay frowns, reality slowly filtering through. "Hm. Well, that's right. I suppose." He shakes his head, nosing her back. "Oh well, I'll just have to own both the meadow *and* these woods, in that case." He nods, confident in himself. Besides, if he wants to reign over all the land, he has to start somewhere.
Clay smirks. "Is it obvious?" He tilts a hoof back, and turns to face straight up, where the stars are visible through the treetops. "It's not like the plains. It's just, I don't know, like a different world." Just by talking, though, he's starting to settle down a bit more. He's fortunate that he's not met any deadly inhabitants of the wood, where ever they may be lurking.
Ooljee grins at this. "Oh.. Just a wee bit." She says with an amused tone before looking up at the sky as well. "I have no problem with it.. But there are some nasty animals around here from time to time. So I don't think staying in the forest all the time would be a good idea."
Clay gazes back down, a sulk setting on his features. "You think I couldn't handle whatever decided to bother us?" He really does believe as much, too. Perhaps someday they'll be his downfall. "You're right, though. If we ever had little ones running about, I suppose it wouldn't be right to have them here." He lets out a sigh. "I guess it won't be productive to stay around here long. We'll never find other horses here, I imagine." Part of him wants to return to where Sagebrush is, to check in on them, perhaps try persuade a few that he's the more awesome stallion. But he's not sure if Ooljee is ready to go back there or not, and he's a little unsure whether to ask. Clay glances off to the side, a look of deep thought in his eye.
Ooljee ears lower a moment before she moves closer to him and bumps her shoulder to his. "I know you can take care of it. I didn't mean it like that.." She says softly. Well she has been the one living here near the forest after all. Her head lifts and she works on getting some twigs and the like out of his mane. "An that true.. Not many horses will go wandering around in a forest. It would he hard for them to escape if something was around that might be chasing them. Still Its not that bad a place to want to live."
Clay tilts an ear back, listening to her quietly. "That's a good point." He leans his head against her shoulder, relaxing gradually. Such a rare thing for him. "In any case, I can live here... for right now. With just you..." Even if it'll just be a fleeting time before they move on again, he's intent on enjoying their time here while it lasts.
Ooljee tilts her head a bit surprized he actually didn't fight her about it, she goes about getting more burrs an the like out from his mane and fur. "What did you do, go through all the sticker bushes today?"
Clay grimaces slightly, when one snags against a strand of his mane. "Well, I might have missed a few." He offers, his flesh twitching now that his awareness has been brought to all the thorns littering his hide. "Okay, I already foresee some problems with this place. All those brambles have got to go."
Ooljee chuckles and grins at him. "Right.. An how would we go about doing that?" She questions while starting to work on getting the thorns out from his fur now. She really does try to be gentle but it isn't that easy.
Clay ponders that one for a while. "Find a goat?" He offers at length, chuckling softly. "Or I could eat it. I bet I could tolerate the taste after the first... well, never." He scraps that idea. "Let's go back to the goats. You didn't happen to know any in your time at the farm? Or a pig even? Maybe a donkey. I heard those things are just insane enough to love that kind of stuff."
Ooljee blinks and laughs at this while nikkering. "We did have some goats and a few bigs but that's been a long time.." She pauses at the talk of a donkey. "There was Copper.. But I haven't seen him in a long time." For all she knows his dead like the rest.
Clay doesn't actually know what any of the animals he listed look like, so if he's seen one already, he'd have no idea. "Hm, well if you ever do see him, tell him to get in here and make himself useful." He doesn't think along the same lines as Ooljee; anything brave enough to chew on pointy foliage has got to be good enough to survive out here. Or so he believes, anyway.
Ooljee grins at this and nods. "Hopfully I'll run into him at some point. I think you'd find him interesting." This said with a happy tone befoer she looks over him. "Well I think your all clean up to go tropping through the bushes agian." This said as she grins.
Clay tilts his head. "Maybe. I've never met a donkey before." He smiles, though. It would be nice to meet something new, though. When she announces his state of cleanliness, the stallion looks over himself. "Hm. Perhaps I'll stay like this a while. After all that work..." Pfft, no way. "Hey, want to take a walk? There's some evergreens over that way I'd like to get a closer look at."
Ooljee chuckles and grins before shrugging. "Right.. I bet your go getting dirty in no time." She says with a playful tone, her ears perking forward as she nods. "Well sure.."
And off he heads, toward adventure only Clay could be so off his marbles to see.
Ooljee follows after him to go see these 'special' trees.. Which she knows are just normal trees but she doesn't mind going along really.
