Takata
It was early morning and Takata had just managed to track down her breakfast, a nice plump squirrel to busy bothering with gathering its own food to notice to old fox stalking it. It wasn't long till the old Vixen broke cover and dispatched the creature with a quick bite to the neck and a loud piercing squeal from the poor creature. After this Takata picked up the small Rodent and started to move back towards the north.
It's been a busy morning for Gypsy too, if not as productive -- in the traditional sense of the word. The mischievous raven has been pursuing the unusual pastime that sets her apart from others of her kind: feather collecting. Her most recent prize, a large and bright red cardinal feather, sticks out from her black back feathers like a flag. As she comes sailing through the trees and down over the stream she catches sight of another streak of red beneath her.
With a curious croak, she pivots her wings and circles around to get another look. What do you know, a fox with a snack! The bird flies ahead to alight on a branch above Takata's path. "Good morning!" She croaks cheerfully.
Takata visibly jumps with the greeting croaked out around her, she drops the catch and looks around. She then finally looks up and spots a black bird sitting wayyyyyy up in the tree. "Er Good morning..." She calls back almost suspiciously. She looks like a average red fox, except one of her ears is shredded to uselessness and her muzzle fur was graying, betraying her age.
If Gypsy is the least bit interested in Takata's meal, she doesn't show it. But then, she's a sneaky creature at times. She hops to a lower branch, tilting her head from side to side as she observes Takata herself. "What a nice shade of fur you have! Almost as red as this!" She hops so her back is to the fox, wings partially splayed to show the bright red feather sticking out from her own. "Nice one, isn't it?" She asks, sounding quite proud, before hopping again to face the furry creature below.
Takata blinks a little at the creatures compliment and at first is rather dumbstruck but then she gently smiles. Another noticable feature is up in her hair a pale blue flower is held on the top of her headfur. Almost making the word cute describable of her... almost. She then nods at the feather. "Yeah it's a very pretty feather." She comments as her paw going to rest on her prey, as a precatioun to stamp out and idea's of theft.
The gesture of protecting her meal isn't missed by Gypsy, but the bird doesn't seem too concerned. She would love to have the squirrel for herself, but as she can't think of a way to weasel herself a meal without getting eaten, she stays put. "The bird I took it off of thought so too." She replies with a grin in response to Takata's comment about the feather. "Otherwise he wouldn't have been so angry about it." She adds with a soft cackle. Noticing the flower next, she hops to a lower branch still. "Oh, lovely! I do love blue. Just ask the blue-jays! They wish I didn't."
Takata blinks a bit slowly she gathers what this raven is saying. "So you rip feathers out of fellow birds just to have them?" She says with a blink. "Couldn't you just um find them on the ground or something?" She asks with a tilt of her head looking at the odd bird. It seemed rather silly to her ripping feathers out of birds. She then ponders and remembers the flower and blushes a little. "Thank you.."
Gypsy tilts her head a bit, looking mildly surprised by the fox's response. "Oh, don't worry, I only ever take one or two feathers, never enough to do any real harm. Besides, it's not -all- about the feathers, even though they're very pretty.." She preens a few of her spiny-looking breast feathers, then turns her bright and beady black eyes to Takata again. "Besides, couldn't you have found some dead thing on the ground, instead of killing that poor squirrel?" She counters, only half serious.
Takata grins toothily at her as she counters this. "I could have yes, but I didn't sniff anything dead and edible." She says actually usually eating dead things and berries before hunting as such because in the end she is a scavenger. "Would you not collect feathers from dead birds?" She asks couriously with a blink.
Gypsy gives a little shrug of her wings. "Sometimes, but... well, like I said, it's not -all- about the feathers." She gives her own feathers a little ruffle. "I don't usually have a problem finding dead things to eat." She notes as well, being primarily a scavenger herself. "Though I suppose not having wings makes things harder for you." She adds, sounding a tad sympathetic.
Takata shrugs a bit smiling gently. "I get by." From her healthy form she now has almost threatening to become a plump form thanks to how much Inali feeds her. She then nods a bit. "I bet it is a amazing feeling to fly.." She comments with a little smile. then moves to sit.
"Oh, yes." The bird confirms with a sharp nod. "Amazing can't describe it. I only wish you could feel it for yourself! Maybe in your next life you'll be so lucky." Gypsy cackles again softly before rattling on. "I hope I don't come back as a fox! No offense, maybe it's not so bad... You don't know what you're missing, after all. And at least I would have pretty fur, if I was so blessed as you."
Takata smiles gently up at the bird as she shakes her head. "Being a fox is not bad, running around the forest terrorizing small rodents." She says with a grin and then she starts to groom a patch of fur. "Well, at the least I will probably see what I miss when I become a spirit and can fly.." She says having obviously a different belief in what happens after death she then looks at the bird then the squirrel. ".... want a bite?"
The corvid is surprised by the offer. She tilts her head one way, then another. Then she flutters down to the ground a few feet in front of Takata, probably close enough to be pounced if the fox really wanted to -- a gesture of trust on Gypsy's part. After all, why would the mammal want to catch and eat a gamey old raven when she has a perfectly good meal already? "Really?" She croaks, still sounding surprised. "All that flying around has worked up an appetite." She admits.
Takata must be getting soft in her old age, letting birds have first bite on her prey instead of last pickings. But she felt obligated to do such as a show of trust and friendship. The bird having been kind slowly she takes her paw off the carcus and slowly takes a few steps back so the bird can reach the prey without her looming over it. "Yeah go ahead take a few bites. Just leave something for me." She says offering a little smile.
Well! If Takata weren't so generous, Gypsy might be tempted to grab the squirrel and fly off with it. But since the fox is willing to share, she wouldn't feel quite right making off with the whole thing. As the other creature backs off, Gypsy takes a few cautious hops forward, and with a few darts of her head starts stabbing and tearing at the food. She takes a few beakfuls, not nearly half of what's there, and then hops back again politely. "Thanks!" She croaks. "I haven't been offered food by another creature since I took it from my mother's beak!" She remarks with another soft cackle. "You're a gem among foxes!"
Takata smiles at the compliment from the bird, actually she was expecting the bird to fly off with it. The fact she doesn't makes her feel like this might be a good friend to have. "You are very welcome, sometimes it is nice to be good to others, so that tin the future they might be good to you." She says with a nod then looks over at the carcass. "Say.. if I ever come across any birds... might you like me to set out a few feathers for you? I am sure with your keen eyes you can spot them.. " She says with a gentle nod.
Gypsy seems quite tickled by the fox's idea. She nods excitedly, giving a little flap to emphasize her agreement. "Oh! Would you? That would be great!" She clacks her beak gratefully. "Maybe in return I can help you find food sometimes. A lot of times I find more than I can eat myself!"
Takata smiles and nods gently. "Alright then sounds like a deal!" She says cheerfully then she leans down and bites into the squirrel picking it up speaking around it. "Well I think its about time I got the rest of this back to my mate." She says giving a gentle nod. "Very nice you meet you!"
"And you! My name's Gypsy, by the way." She introduces, realizing that she hadn't done so previously.
Takata blinks a bit as she nods. "Nice to meet you I am Takata!" She mutters as she then turns t words the north. "hope to see you around! Stay safe!" She says cheerfully and then starts to pad forward.
"G'bye!" The raven croaks as she watches the fox depart. A moment later, she takes off with a few quick flaps and sails off again in search of food or trouble, whichever she comes across first.
