Hinto finds himself waking up snuggled against his mate. He finds the morning to be somewhat cool and decides that summer must indeed be drawing to a close. It is both a shame and a good thing, as he and Lupin are that closer to winter and starting a family. He looks over at his sleeping mate and licks her cheek. He wonders what she could be dreaming of now.
Her dreams are vivid within the depths of her wandering mind. For the wolfess has thoughts that reflect herself perfectly. Wild, yet gentle. They are realistic to her, and Lupin can be seen twitching and wincing as the dream progresses, feeling as real as the tongue of her mate upon her cheek now. The gesture awakens her suddenly, causing her to open her eyes with a sharp intake of breath. When her eyes alight upon Hinto, she releases a sigh, pleased, relieved, and silently licks him back, then to bury her muzzle deep in the crevice between his fluffy neck and shoulder, her heartbeat slowly easing and becoming normal.
Hinto notices that she seems to have woken up with a start. Not wanting to have frightened his mate, he turns to comforting her. "I am sorry. Did I awaken you, love?" Hinto asks. She looked so peaceful before, he didn't intend to wake her.
"Oh," she murmurs, disconcerted a moment. If he was part of her dream, would he be asking her about waking up? Lupin swivels her head slightly, still allowing her face to embed itself in his fur. "Yes, you did wake me," she assents, a smile upon her muzzle. "But I'm glad you did. My dream was becoming quiet strange and displeasant."
Hinto blinks. "It was?" Hinto asks. Now he feels somewhat bad. If not for something he did then the fact his mate had an unpleasant dream. Knowing that a mate makes good comfort, Hinto has to ask. "What was your dream?"
"We had a family," she replies, closing her eyes as if picturing the dream again. "At first the dream was very good. There were three pups," Lupin continues, her thoughts becoming clearer as she does so. "They were healthy and beautiful. And then a cougar came." The wolfess shudders visibly, her eyes tightening. "I was the only one left."
Hinto looks a bit concerned when he hears the part about a cougar coming... and leaving Lupin the only survivor of such an attack. His next words are meant as a comfort. "It was a dream. Though it is a good thing that you indeed know what you fear. You can now make sure you never experience it."
She lets out a sigh heavily and nods slowly against his chest. "Perhaps you're right." But the result of such a dream is never pleasant immediately afterwards, and Lupin is still slightly shaken by the ordeal. Slowly, things are growing more normal and the disturbing thoughts are leaving her mind at peace, though, and she welcomes this. Turning to him, she licks his muzzle affectionately and asks, "And how did you sleep? Have you been awake long?"
"No, I haven't been awake for too long." Hinto says with a smile. "In fact, licking you and waking you up was my first action of the day." Hinto is still a bit hopeful that Lupin will be okay after this nightmare.
Lupin smiles fondly, looking at him with warm golden eyes. "I see," she nods, sighing quietly; happily. "I feel so lazy today. My dream must have proved too exhausting for a good rest," the she-wolf adds reluctantly. To have a bad dreams is one thing. To get a bad night's sleep from it is even worse!
Hinto nuzzles his mate and licks her. "Who should do the hunting this morning. If you're feeling down... I could do it." Hinto says. "It wouldn't bother me."
Or perhaps they could have a bit of fun with it. She tilts her head to the side and arches her eyebrows with a curious look. "Or maybe we could go together," Lupin suggests, the corner of her mouth turning up at the side as she adds, "The last time we did, you *stole* that rabbit from me." She chuckles lightly, reminding him of their very first meeting.
Hinto blushes. Oh yes. He had nearly forgotten. Swooping in like he had and stealing the rabbit. Then a bit of an argument followed... then other things happened and they fell in love. Hinto has to remind himself how funny life can be sometimes. "Well, I hope I'll make that up to you!"
The female chuckles, nosing the side of his neck. "Don't worry, I've long since forgiven you." Lupin grunts, getting to her paws slowly and stretching her limbs out to get the blood flowing. "Now, what kind of kill are you thinking? Deer, hare, fish.. berries.." she grins at him, knowing he probably wouldn't take too well to the diet she had long ago taken up when previously living on the plateau. Not much meat up there besides friends!
Hinto stands up and stretches as well and he thinks about what he is hungry for. A deer would actually be pretty delicious, and a considerably larger meal than a hares, fish, or berries. "Lets catch us a doe."
"Let's do that," she consents with a smile, tail swaying pleasantly and beginning to move about. Then she begins walking towards the west, glancing behind her to be sure he's following.
Hinto is right behind her. He enjoys hunting with his mate. They make a good duo for finding and killing of prey. And he's just looking forward to making sure that Lupin will have her mind off the bad dream and what it means.
And off they go, male and female hunting together for the evening. To hunt alone is nice at times, but to be with her mate is all Lupin really wants now. Never alone again.. and it's a wonderful feeling.
