Tohopka is crossing through the grasslands intent on getting as far away from the mountains as possible, he had hung around the area for a month or so after being kicked out of amaranth, a place he had once thought of as 'cougar paradise'. Then he started getting antsy so had left, and has been wandering ever since. He is not sure for how long, but has taken his time, having no real place to go. The wind is blowing through his fur, it is over all a nice day, but he stopped caring about stuff like that some time ago. His expression seems to be neutral, He thought he caught a whiff of another cougar in the area, and is hoping to avoid whoever it is, He wants nothing to do with other cougars, nor anyone else for that matter. Although he has this nagging feeling that there was something in that scent that reminded him of his brother, however he dismisses it as nothing, chalking it up to well something else.
Cheveyo is sleeping by his tree, his normal rest spot when he's not watching his smaller borders. He's sleeping after having had a boring day of accomplishing little. Not even a kill. This doesn't bother him, as he is not really that hungry.
Suddenly the wind shift, blowing straight from Cheveyo’s direction... the definite scent of a cougar, isn't what stops him in his tracks, it’s the fact that there is a definite relation to Chesmu. But who could it be, they were all in that so called safe haven. He lets out a frustrated growl before turning and heading in the direction of the scent, wondering what he will find.
Cheveyo is still sleeping under his tree. Fortunately he didn't hear the growl, as he is rather careful about those in his territory.
Tohopka approaches the tree, and stops dead in his tracks when he sees the male... he looks just like his brother...but bigger. "It can't be....Chesmu?" he says, although after blinking a couple times, the Chesmu look-a-like is still there. He stands there an utterly confused look on his face... as he feels all sorts of emotions welling up inside, and questions as to who this male is, how he is related to his brother (and more than likely himself as well). However he is unsure as to what he should do, he isn't sure if it would be a good idea to wake up this male, especially since he (Tohopka) doesn't exactly look too friendly. So he decides to wait a minute to see if he will wake up.
Cheveyo hears the other male speak. Normally he wouldn't wake up, except he hears the name of his father uttered. His eyes flash open and he directs his eyes in the direction of the voice. He rises and listens out for more. "Who speaks the name of Chesmu?!"
Tohopka sees the male awaken, rise up, and address him, and responds quite simply "His brother, Tohopka."
This seems to catch Cheveyo off guard. Tohopka? He had heard his uncle's name. Tohopka, his father's brother. The large cougar finally stands and walks toward Tohopka. "You say you are Tohopka the brother of Chesmu?"
Tohopka nods, "Yes, I am." remaining where he is as the other male approaches.
"I am Cheveyo." Cheveyo says. "I am a..." Cheveyo hesitates. Maybe he shouldn't reveal too much about himself yet. "...relevant party. You are the brother of Chesmu. You did not betray him."
"No, I did not, I don't even know the truth.... from what I saw he was murdered, and no one else there did anything about it, nor did they answer my questions." He takes a good look at the male, he looks just like Chesmu "Relevant party, you wouldn't happen to be related, because in case no one has told you, you look just like him.
Indeed, Cheveyo has been told he looks much like his father. Probably an unwelcome sight to the Amaranth. "Let us stay with 'relevant party.'" Cheveyo says. He has not established whether he can trust this one. "Chesmu was betrayed and murdered, even by those in his own family, in particular, the family Chesmu had with the traitor-matron Ayashe."
Tohopka nods slowly, "They said he went crazy, although I saw him a few days before he was killed and he seemed fine, although he.... he seemed to be fine... The last thing we did together was hunt, and he seemed just fine. After he was killed I stayed in the area of his grave for several months, until just after the flood, then was convinced to return, saying the chieftain would be accepting. I thought it was his son Yuma, but it wasn't it was another male... I think his name was Kein. He accused me of sharing the same mental instability as Chesmu, and kicked me out. I was escorted out by Yuma who said nothing to me. I stayed in the area for about a month, then felt I should leave and have been wandering ever since."
"Chesmu never went crazy. Nor was he a murderer." Cheveyo says, strongly resisting the urge to say 'my father' to Tohopka. "They told these lies to cover up their treason." Cheveyo seems rather pointed on that aspect. His father was murdered, not executed.
Tohopka nods again, but doesn't say anything, as he doesn't have anything else to say, although he wracks his brain, trying to figure out if he remembers his brother saying anything about another mate, or something, because that is the only thing that could explain the fact that Cheveyo looks just like him.
Cheveyo eyes the other male suspiciously. Did he not betray Chesmu. "Why do you stare at me so?" Cheveyo asks. No doubt he is trying to place him in the family.
"You said you weren't family? Because you look and smell like him, although I can't think of any other mates he had That wasn't exactly a topic of discussion, and he only mentioned Yuma, Nayeli, and Chandani to me." he says
"Never said I was not family. Just said I was a relevant party." Cheveyo says. "After Chesmu was killed, I learned quickly that I need to approach trusting others slowly."
"Nor do I blame you for not wanting to trust anyone, I know I don't" Tohopka replies.
"Have they attempted to kill you, too?" Cheveyo says sharply. Obviously he more than distrusts those in power of Amaranth. He hates them absolutely.
"No, but they gave me no chance to try to prove I was any different, they assumed I was just like my brother. Although I feel that if I hadn't complied and left, I might have had i fight on my paws," Tohopka replies flatly.
Cheveyo's hackles rise. "You have no need to prove you were unlike Chesmu!" Cheveyo snaps. "He was fine, they betrayed him! You had nothing to prove!"
Tohopka seems unphased by Cheveyo's sudden aggression "Apparently to them I did, but it doesn't matter, I want nothing to do with them, and am trying put as much distance between them and me. I'd love to get back at them for what they did, and the lies, but there is no way for me to do that. Honestly, thats one reason I stuck around for that month, watching, but it can't be done, not alone, not without a lot of luck, or a really good advantage or some way to surprise them."
Fortunately for Tohopka, the justice of Amaranth stands right before him. His means for revenge. "Those words make me a little closer to trusting you. You don't have their stench about you either. Perhaps I can have an unsteady trust, at least enough to tell you just who I am." Cheveyo says. He seems to grow several inches and look all around more magnificent a cougar. "I am Cheveyo, the eldest son of Chesmu and Ama, and who may yet become the Amaranth's greatest nightmare."
Tohopka again for the most part seems unphased by this change, although his blood stained muzzle forms a small grin. "Well then it’s a pleasure to meet you Cheveyo" he says.
Cheveyo looks at Tohopka. "I dare not hide or even consider the lies of the Amaranth. They slew my father. All I wish is for those responsible be brought to justice, and honor be brought to that tribe." Cheveyo walks closer to Tohopka. "And some day I will bring this to pass. Some day they will look at me and see their greatest fear realized. Then they will meet their deaths. Some day, Amaranth will be proud and honorable again, with no murderers remaining."
Nods once again, "Ok, although honestly, i don't care what becomes or Amaranth, I just want those responsible for my brother's murder dead."
"That is all I need to hear. From now on you're welcome on my territory. I strongly urge you to stay away from their territory. I don't know how I am going to do this thing I am committed to, or even if I am ready. But it will happen, mark my very words!" Cheveyo says.
"I have no intentions of returning, there, until the time comes to complete this task, and I'm willing to help you in any way possible. I have myself spent the last several months since I left, trying to prepare myself for what I thought I was going to have to do alone, I didn't look anything like this when I left. But I am happy to know that now I don't have to do this alone, as much as it would please me to tear them all apart myself, it isn't possible to do alone, no matter how big and strong you are."
"I have no intention of doing this alone. My brother is by my side. And... you, apparently. You're my uncle, and you can tell me, you were close to my father?" Cheveyo asks.
"we onlyk new each other for a month" Tohopka says then he goes on to tell the story of how he and Chesmu met.
Cheveyo hrms. He's never heard any stories of his grandmother, Imala. "And the Amaranth allowed that dangerous cougaress to stay, and yet would still murder my father?!"
"I know nothing as to what became of her, only that she was in the area around the time of his death."
"Perhaps she had something to do with it. If what you say is true, she wanted you and my father dead your entire lives." Cheveyo says. "If I see her, I'll tear her apart."
"if we see her I'd very much appreciate that honor" Tohopka says. "Words cannot describe the hell she put us through."
"I will just have to accept it is hell enough, then." Cheveyo says. "Tohopka, you are welcome to stay on my territory, like my brother and mother, though she chooses to stay with them."
Tohopka nods "thank you."
Cheveyo then heads back to his tree. "I must bide my time. I move now and I'll die like my father did." Cheveyo says. "I'm no fool who would rush into this situation."
Tohopka hesitates a moment before following, "I'll assist in whatever way you need, and i agree, it would be best to wait, the memory of Chesmu is still to fresh, we need to wait until they are completely off guard." Then he asks, "Are there any good places to rest? I've been traveling for almost two days nonstop and need some rest."
Cheveyo looks to Tohopka. "Comfort is a matter of preference. I suggest finding a spot that tickles your fancy. I like this place because it is rather central to my entire territory."
"I doubt it but is there anything rocky. I spent a lt of time at the jagged cliffs and stone formations, and am quite used to that kind of terrain and I feel more sleeping off the ground, so if necessary a tree will suffice."
Cheveyo grunts. "Feel free to look around." Cheveyo says and lowers his head on his paws.
Tohopka walks off, feeling better than he has in months.
Cheveyo is sleeping by his tree, his normal rest spot when he's not watching his smaller borders. He's sleeping after having had a boring day of accomplishing little. Not even a kill. This doesn't bother him, as he is not really that hungry.
