Characters:
Kein - Male Cougar
Nium - Female Cougar
- Stone Formations -
Things in Amaranth are excessively busy. With Ashen's disappearance, the trouble with Kaya, and the news about Cheveyo... And now Nayeli is upset with him... Still, Kein has not even begun to ignore his standard duties. And, when a colorful bird came to see him with a strange message... Well, he might as well look for two cougars at the same time. Three, really, since he would like to catch Ama before she leaves and have Ama and Nium travel together.
Now that the air is warming and the snow is melting at a rapid rate, Nium, is is usual, is out and about more. She tends to be more secluded, more solitary during the cold season. From her elongated nap, she hops up on a large, flat stone and stretches out her back and limbs. The huntress is rather difficult to miss being so tall, and so high up. She even manages to smile as her damp paws press against the completely dry, warm stone that has been in the sun's rays for the length of the day. Nium closes her eyes and points her muzzle to the sun. Her ears are always on alert though, they scan around her for sounds of bugs, birds, and snakes. Inhale....exhale....inhale....exhale....
As Kein continues to draw nearer to Nium, her scent grows gradually stronger. He is not going through extraordinary effort to be quiet. While he is not making excess noise, he is certainly louder than the average bug, bird, or snake. His pace is fast enough to show that he has a clear purpose in mind. Many of them. He would rather like to finish all the tasks he has so he could try to find his mate, if she hasn't left yet.
Nium is enjoying this day so far. In pleased states such as this, she wishes to hunt and satisfy a growing hunger. Then she hears the pawsteps, sure, but she certainly doesn't feel threatened. Casually, she lowers her head. "Mmmm... Jinx?" She guesses and as she does so, she opens her eyes and turns her large head. Immediately she sees the chieftan. She likes Kein, and slides off the flat rock, onto the thin grass. "Hello, sir." She meets him half-way. Nium is happy to see Kein again; the last time they met up, Nayeli was injured and Kein was rather irritable at Nium's presence.
No. Definitely not Jinx. Jinx isn't even in Amaranth anymore, as far as Kein knows. Once Nayeli reaches within comfortable speaking distance of Kein, the male cougar stops walking. He remains standing, though. This shouldn't take /too/ long... Even though Kein actually bothers with the pleasantries, today. "Good day, Nium. How are you?"
Nium remains standing so long as Kein does. He certainly sounds less irritable this time than last, she feels more comfortable. "I feel good, sir. Quiet winter, warm spring, I'm very pleased." It's a simple answer, but Nium perhaps is equally as simple. She quickly gathers up the boldness to inquire about Kein's well being. "How did the winter treat you and your family, Kein? How is your family?"
How has winter treated his family? "They are better." Physically, anyway. There are... Other troubles, now, but Kein does not speak about them. Rather, he jumps into the reason why he ws searching for Nium. "A bird visited me a while ago. Said that there's going to be some sort of gathering in the woods to the north." Where, exactly? Kein has no idea. And why is Kein telling Nium this? "I thought you might be interested in going. There's going to be some sort of... Well, he mentioned fortune-telling, among other things." That's a spiritual thing, right? A potential-shamaness thing?
"...Fortune telling?" Nium is interested, if not confused. This would seem to be an odd thing to tell Nium unless he had specific plans for her, one way or another. She has nothing else to do, save for learn anything Kein would want her to. She nods once, slowly. "Yeah, I'll go..." She's a bit hesitant, but only due to the unusual timing and unprovoked nature of the question. And Nium does completely trust Kein as it is. "Are you coming? Or am I going alone?"
"I can't." And Kein probably wouldn't, even if everything were not so troubled in Amaranth right now. Workaholic? Maybe, a little bit. "I would prefer you not travel alone, though." For safety reasons, even if Nium is large enough to take care of herself. "Ama will be going that way to check up on her children, soon. You two could keep each other company." And hopefully, when they return, Ama will have taken care of the problem with Cheveyo, and Nium... Well, Kein doesn't know what to expect, if anything, but it still seems that /something/ good may come of this.
"I would prefer not to travel alone either." This is all rather unusual and coming quickly, but Nium will not disagree. Nium knows Ama, but not very well. It will do her good to further introduce herself. It will also be positive to get out in the spring after a slow, calm, winter. "Not to rush anything, sir, but when would exactly should I--we depart?" A fortune-teller to the north is enough to spark Nium's interest, though without Kein's word perhaps not enough motive to travel there.
"As soon as you can." Kein is not in a hurry to get them out of Amaranth, or anything, but... The Merrymakers, as the bird called them, will surely not be there forever. If Nium's interest seemed to be less genuine, then Kein would not push her, but as she /does/ seem interested in it, better that they leave sooner than later. "I will search for Ama and let her know about this as well. Where can I tell her she could find you, should I find her before you?"
Briefly Nium ponders the question, looking one direction than another. "If you do find her before me, tell her I'll be at the northern lake." She stretches again, hoping Ama wouldn't be opposed to traveling with her. She at least was informed about going in the first place, right? Nium now, rushes Kein, somewhat. The idea of a fortune-teller is eating away at her curiosity. "Is that all sir?"
Kein gives a nod of his head. "Yeah, that's all." That works well anyway. Nium can search to the north of here, on her way to the lake, incase Ama slipped past him, and Kein can head south from here, to the areas of Amaranth where he has not, yet, been today. "Travel well, Nium. I'll see you soon."
